Getting weird with a magus (nothing sexual)

Skull & Shackles

so i get to be a pc for skull & shackles (there is a santa claus!!), and it just so happens to correspond with my purchase of ultimate magic. i'm rather intrigued by the magus and have decided on it as my class.
i was originally going to make him a half-elf (so he could be the bastard son of a sacred whore:), then i thought "why not get weird with it?".
so my question to you, fellow gamers is: how would you get weird with the magus?
a couple of guidelines: i don't care for the blade bound archetype (unless i can be convinced otherwise) and i prefer to stay away from catfolk, ratfolk and grippli. grippli i might be able to be convinced on but i'm rather firm on the catfolk and ratfolk (i have a strong dislike for cats and rodents).
also please no spoilers:)

Tengu kensai?

I always thought the image of a grippli magus, with the agile tongue feat, using his tongue to make the touch attacks from his spell combat, seemed like alot of fun. Hell, it might even allow them to use a two-handed weapon.

Take the 2 alternate racial traits (glider and jumper) in place of camo and swamp stride, and you'd have all sorts of fun options aboard a vessel.... especially with a natural climb speed.

Shadow Lodge

How could you not want a blade bound cutlass talking like a pirate. C'mon.

i gotta admit that does sound pretty sweet, i dont have advanced race guide yet (soon, soon my precious) but the rest does sound fun, i'll most definitely check it out:). sylph also sounds fun.

i just don't care for talking swords is all, i also don't want to bound to one sword his whole career (tho if it constantly criticized and pestered him like karen the computer from spongebob, and i have been working on my plankton voice (i have two kids that love spongebob:) a maybe

in response to the cleverly named slaad, i don't care for the diminished spell casting of the kensai tho tengu has made my top five race choices, which are
halfling
kitsune
elf (from qadira)
tengu
and tie with sylph and Aasimar
not in any particular order
i got an awesome idea for an evil Aasimar (just been waiting til i have an extra 8 bucks for the blood of angels pdf)

also it should be noted i role my abilities, no point buy (tho i'm using the classic 3d6 method, i got wildly lucky d6's for christmas, almost always 2 scores 16 or above, with 3d6 no less!!)

personally, I would take a long probing look at the basic Tielfing or the Tiefling options in Blood of Fiends ( which might also help with your backstory). Sylph would probably be one of the strongest choices (given the "Airy Step" featchain) , even if challenging with regard to backstory.
Standard Tiefling, or daemon Spawn Tiefling . For extra-nasty, pick a Qlippoth Spawn tieflings (best with Monstrous Mask feat^^) , though the stats are disadvantageous.... Also consider the number of class-skill ranks conferred by the outsider template, as well as certain. Plus the Tiefling "Fiend Flayer" Magus is not a shabby choice. Same goes for the prehensile tail options.... "hand me that wand"

I'd shirk away from anything small for a magus though, and... Tengu or Kitsune ? I this a furry pirates game ? Kitsune is more of rogue choice, too.

Oh, and given the fact that AC will be pretty low (Tropics, shipboard....not really a spoiler) throughout the AP, taking a penalty to CON is... a challenge.

All of this purely power oriented.

not a furry game, i just had an idea for a super suave kitsune from goka wielding a nine ring broadsword, for tengu i like the sword trained aspect. my idea for him was he wears dark clothes, and self narrates all his battles and goes by the nickname "the crow". i've actually removed kitsune from my choices with tiefling taking its place, i don't have blood of fiends, i do have the tie fling ecology from bastards of erebus tho and i figure thats pretty much very similar.

For a magus you want a 18-20x2 or at least 19-20x2 or x3 crit range weapon. 20/x3 doesn't let your spell crit as often. With a Tengu, who gets proficiency with all swords automatically, you would want a katana, an urumi, a bastard sword, or a falcata if you're going strength, or a scimitar if going dex (provided that dervish dance is an option, and that your DM is not willing to extend its benefits to other weapons).

Well I'm sure your group is sticking to PF Core, however, if there's some 3pp lee-way, you might want to check out Rite Publishing's In the Company of Tengu, which includes Tengu Kensei - a magus class especially designed for the race, tengu. Lots of leaping and mobility skills combined with some unique magus arcana only accessible to tengu.

Just for a note, I didn't misspell 'kensai', by naming it 'kensei' - actually 'kensai' is a misspelling/misproununciation for 'sword saint' since OA 1e.

no 3pp just pathfinder. and yes i'm familiar with the common misspelling, thanks anyway.
i also realize limiting archetypes or races might inhibit weirdness so everything is on the table. i'm also curious if anyone else went out of thier comfort zone for skull & shackles character (for years i've been either a rogue or fighter type dwarf or halfling, so magic is a new beast for me)
