PFS Guide Questions

Pathfinder Society® General Discussion

NOTE: Page numbers refer to version 4.2 of the guide.

PAGE 6: you may choose to use one of several level-appropriate pregenerated characters.

Question: Current pregens need any modification on 4.2? Any idea if new pregens will be available?

PAGE 7 (age):Characters do not alter their ability scores as a result of this choice.

Question: Only at character creation or never?

PAGE 8: Only items listed as Always Available may be selected as the free bonded object.

Question: What are Always Available items? I haven't found that on the CRB?

PAGE 8: All languages except Druidic are available by putting a skill rank in Linguistics

Question: By available it means that I can try to decipher them without knowing them using linguistics?

PAGE 9: your faction leader will give you a specific side mission related to your faction’s goals.

Question: The DM will decide the side missions or they are specified on the scenario PDF?

AGE 7 (age):Characters do not alter their ability scores as a result of this choice.
Question: Only at character creation or never?

Never I think, the time between mission is indetermined. AFAIK you don't keep track of your character age in PFS.

PAGE 8: Only items listed as Always Available may be selected as the free bonded object.
Question: What are Always Available items? I haven't found that on the CRB?

Always available items are on page 24 of the GUIDE TO PATHFINDER SOCIETY ORGANIZED PLAY.

PAGE 8: All languages except Druidic are available by putting a skill rank in Linguistics
Question: By available it means that I can try to decipher them without knowing them using linguistics?

No, it mean that you can learn one of them when you acquire 1 rank in the linguistic skill.

PAGE 9: your faction leader will give you a specific side mission related to your faction’s goals.
Question: The DM will decide the side missions or they are specified on the scenario PDF?

They are specific for the scenario.

PAGE 9:Complete trait rules can be found in the Advanced Player’s Guide. No other campaign traits from any source are legal for characters to choose.

Question So I only take the rules from the APG but not the traits there?

The traits listed in the APG are part of the trait rules in the APG.

You can't take traits from other sourcebooks.

Sorry, Diego, just clarifying this point: you can't take campaign traits from other sourcebooks, only from the Guide. Other types of trait, such as social, magic, regional etc are available from all legal sources.

Seem logic, as the specific campaign traits from the AP are more powerful that normal traits.
It is 7.45 AM and I am taking my breakfast so I consider it a minor error :-)

Sadly I don't get to play in PFS organized play so my knowledge of the rules is limited.

PAGE 10: your Game Master will provide you with a Chronicle sheet.

Question: The chronicle is a blank sheet or it already contains a summary of the scenario? Will it appear on the character's sessions tab for the character?

The chronicle sheet is filled out by the Gm to note how much gold xp and pp you recieved. It will also note any changes to you such as items bought ability scores drained spell casting purchased.

They also list the treasure found in the scenario that you can now purchase as well as any boons.

PAGE 12: Society members send a record of their exploits to their venture-captain superior

Question: This is campaign lore or is a RL requirement?

What the Grand lodge faction symbol means/represents?

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Lieutenant, Australia—Melbourne aka KestlerGunner

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Page 12 -> It's campaign lore. The GM is supposed to report all game sessions though online.

Grand Lodge faction symbol is an open road outlooking the horizon, representing Ambrus Valsin's younger days as an out-of-work traveling itinerant and poet. Valsin became a member of the postwar Beat Generation that was inspired by jazz, poetry, and drug experiences.

(Seriously though, it's a road. I don't know much more.)

Ever. Otherwise you'd just set your wizard 1 day below Old and age him up. BAM.. instant increase int.

PAGE 8: Only items listed as Always Available may be selected as the free bonded object.

Question: What are Always Available items? I haven't found that on the CRB?

Its from the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play

always available:

• All basic armor, gear, items, and weapons from Chapter 6 of the Core Rulebook, including Small and Large-sizeditems. This does not include equipment made from dragonhide, but it does include equipment made from the other special materials, such as alchemical silver and cold iron (see the Special Materials section on page 154 of the Core Rulebook). All mundane (completely nonmagical) weapons, armor, equipment, and alchemical gear found in any other source that is legal for play are considered always available.
• +1 weapons (2,000 gp + 300 for the masterwork weapon cost + item cost)
• +1 armor (1,000 gp + 150 for the masterwork armor cost + item cost)
• +1 shields (1,000 gp + 150 for the masterwork armor cost + item cost)
• Potions and oils of 0- or 1st-level spells at caster level 1st (50 gp or less)
• Scrolls of 0- or 1st-level spells at caster level 1st (50 gp or less)
• Wayfinder (50% discount—250 gp; see page 299 of The
Inner Sea World Guide)

Question: By available it means that I can try to decipher them without knowing them using linguistics?

It means that you can learn it with linguistics, as opposed to making up a language only you and your friend speak and calling it whamalamadingdongese (which you can't do)

PAGE 9: your faction leader will give you a specific side mission related to your faction’s goals.

Question: The DM will decide the side missions or they are specified on the scenario PDF?

Specified in the scenario. They usually involve item retrieval, script translation, or making a friend.

Thanks a lot everybody for the answers so far!

A road? for real? I can't see it but I guess your right! Well is 3AM here I will continue reading tomorrow. Maybe I will see it after some coffee in the morning!

Is the Fabricate spell available in PFS?

I believe yes but its effects would end at the end of a scenario.

Its an extreme perspective drawing. The lower lines are the road vanishing off into the horizon, and the upper lines are mountains...

I think...

Page 10: Changes may only be made between adventures and before beginning play as a 2nd-level character

Question: Do I get 2 or 3 chances to retrain?

Question: Do I get 2 or 3 chances to retrain?

0 XP: Build character or use pregen, no limits on rebuilding.

1 XP: Rebuild allowed, or use a different pregen.

2 XP: Rebuild allowed, or use a different pregen.

3 XP: Last rebuild allowed, once played at this point, the PC is locked in.

4+ XP: Other than anything allowed by leveling up, the character is pretty much set in stone. Remember that some classes do allow minor rebuilding (e.g. Sorcerers can retrain one spell every 4th level, Fighters can retrain one of their bonus feats at every 4th level, etc.)

In-character, game lore. Nothing preventing you, as a player, from taking notes, but it's not required. :-)
