[d20pfsrd.com] - What tools do you want to see?

I'd like to see a tool to easily determine what archetypes are compatible. Like you'd pick an archetype and then it'd show all the archetypes you'd still be eligible for.

forgive my ignorance but what is a "simple fallible carter sheet"?

It's the Internet; you have to assume everything you read was typed by a drunken octopus with boxing gloves on its tentacles while it was being herded into a chipper-shredder by enthusiastic application of industrial-strength cattle-prods.

Simple. Fill-able. Character. Sheet.

wow I butchered that.

I do hate it when I miss spell some thing ,only to see it after its to late.

Thank you for at least pointing it out in a funny way.

But there really is no good fill-able character sheet.

Seconded. Something that allows me to check-box select applicable modifiers, apply conditions, and click "Roll" for a skill check, attack series, save, etc. Something akin to combatmanager, but oriented toward tracking a single character, rather than a whole combat.

Being able to drop in a standard stat block for an NPC, or a character, and parse that into a usable character entry would be fantastic. Also, being able to save the state of the character to a local file, to pause in the midst of things, would be helpful.

That one might be a quick and easy one. I've directed one of the programmers at this request to see if its something that he could knock out relatively soon.

Could Dread Mummy and Clockwork be added as an options in the monster builder? Thanks in advance!

Sovereign Court

As for the topic at hand? I think a magic item creation tool would be a fantastic addition! My group has one specific player who is notorious for stumbling over the rules around magic item pricing, and the process in general. I feel that some sort of web-based form that handles all the rules-based logic over options that are available, even for a class' bonded item, would be invaluable if properly executed.

Kyras Ausks wrote:

Warning: shameless plug in 3...2..

There's my form-fillable character sheet as well, although it's not mentioned on D20PFSRD's site (wink, wink). I'd encourage anyone to have a look to see if it suits their needs.

Kyras, I hope I can change your opinion. If not, drop me a line with suggestions.

An archetype eligibility filter.

Going into more detail, it'd be some kinda tool where you select an archetype for the class you're looking at, and it will tell you what other archetypes you still qualify for, and it will update itself every time you select another archetype.

So say you're looking at Ranger, and you select Trapsmith as your archetype. The list would update and show you every archetype you still qualify for. You could then select a second archetype from the remaining list (say... Shapechanger or some other archetype that doesn't deal with your spells) and the list would update again and show you an archetypes you can still qualify for.

Admittedly, I have no idea how many people would find this useful, but when looking through archetypes, I definitely would find it nice as a reference tool.

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if this has already been mentioned. It'd be nice if the spells DB had a column for "this is a wizard spell: true/false". As it is, I can find all the wizard 1 spells (for example), but not all wizard spells.

Another potentially nice thing, although probably much harder to implement, would be some way of taking the feats list and filtering out what you're qualified for. I can't quite imagine what the interface for that would be like though.

The Exchange

Brian (wheelmanforhire) has some nifty stuff coming. He's already implemented a much improved monster filtering page but its still in testing/refinement stage so its not available on the site yet. Once that page is done I can see the same type of functionality being implemented for the Spells DB.

I'd love to see an API or some other way for for outside developers to interact with the SRD to easily grab content like feat & spell descriptions, or the ability to export monster stats to a token for use in a VTT (like maptool).

The maptool community has a Pathfinder macro available that lets you copy|paste a statblock, and then populate token properties automagically. You should check over their forums if you have not yet.

I checked that out a while ago, and it was rather finicky. I'll take another look, though. Thanks.

Could we get Caravan tools?

I have a pair of unrelated questions about D20 pfsrd:

Is there a list of what books have been added to the site?

Is there a list of books that are being worked on?

Sorry for the unrelated question but it has been bugging me for a while.

I would love a spellbook generator like Perram's Spell Card.

Lord Phrofet wrote:

Not really. Do you have a specific book in mind you are curious about?

Lord Phrofet wrote:

Not really. We just work on whatever are the most recent Paizo books first, then whatever is most pressing/most in demand from 3pp.

Unrelated to any specific request, but see the new Advanced Monster Search page added by Brian/Wheelmanforhire:

Not sure if this would be possible but I would love to be able to have a sort function to pull up the various creatures that the 'summon' spells and their like can bring. So search for 'Summon Natures Ally 1' creatures or, 'Summon Monster 4' creatures, etc.

Also I see that someone started a file on the site with the level 1 summon monster list and stats, both regular and feat augmented, that you could print and have in a binder or pull up on a screen. Would love to see that finished for levels 1-9 on all the various spells.

That would make running a summon oriented character a ton easier.

Is there a way to build an output formatted to a list, rather than the cards?

I can't help but think of Ema's sheets for 3.5, but without suffering the same fate as their site? Even something like "tyranscooter" provided (Interactive Spell Sheet v1.06, link below) for OpenOffice perhaps as a web interface/tool.

Basic functionality: input character details, prompt for spell selection, then display printable output/list.

Ema example

More options for a dice roller, drop lowest (4d6), reroll <# (for 1's or 2's) options. We often use the online die roll for stats ;)

Yes Perram's tool is awesome, but like Baroh, i would be glad to have a Spell list Generator taking care of the caster level, stat bonus, racial or trait bonus to generate the appropriate Save DC, Spells per day, etc...

Sovereign Court

I'm sure you could even take your existing spell database spreadsheet and feed it into a Google Docs spreadsheet based tool for this.

That way it can be copied to other Google drives for personalizing?

Just spit-ballin' here.

I've been working on a new wizard character and I was looking for a way to sort through which spells require saving throws and which type of save. Something to sort out the ones that are affected by SR would also be helpful. Does something like this already exist? If not, its a bit of an obscure request, but if someone has time....

The spell database should be able to do what you are looking for. You need to check what info is in which column, and then sort that column so the info you are looking for is clustered together. It might work better to download the spreadsheet to your local computer and work with it there.

Is there an option to sort for Bonus Types in the spell database ?
I've run into discussions with two players which spells stack and which not and a complete list of spells sorted via bonus type would be great.

Grand Lodge

I do not know if it would help but I made something a long time ago that help me in my games. It is something that will tell you what time of the day if any that you are attacked. The qbasic (old programing lang) and the exe vesion of it can be found on my old website http://deathmvp.tripod.com/id54.html

I got the % from a old forgoten Realms book but it works for any game. It roll the % 24 time and then tells you any hour that the chance game up. It does not tell you what you fight just you hit something. This made my players more jumpy as you can easly get something like 3am when only 1 person is on watch and the rest are a sleep.

the chart was
Terrain Normal Cautious Hiding
Desolate 5% 2% 1%
Wilderness 8% 4% 2%
Civilized 10% 5% 2%
Heavily Traveled 12% 6% 3%

If you think it works feel free to take it and post it up or change it to work with a web page. I have wanted to make it into a android app but I do not know how to do it.

I'm afraid that this probably wouldn't be possible. And I hate to say that about ANY feature. The reason is that the bonuses are only discussed in the spell text of a spell, and not consistently every time.

Something certainly to think about, though... but I'm not sure it can be done.

You'd have to do a text search (CTRL + F) for all instances of the word "bonus". There won't be a sort option due to the information being located in the Description block of the spell write-up.

You might be able to pull something off by using some of the "conditional formatting" options within Excel 2010+

...worth a shot.

One thing I did with the spell database, after saving a *.xls file of it, was the addition of a few columns at the end.

In excel, this translated to "BT" through "CH" added. And I gave each column a header (row 1) with a caster class name. For the second row, I put in a (sort of) simple line of excel code then filled down through row 1573.

Details:
=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("cleric ",E2)),MID(E2,FIND("cleric ",E2)+7,1),"")

For each column, I just replaced the class name (space included after it) with that for each corresponding column header. That "+7" changes for each column too. It's a character count of "cleric_" in the above example. The longest one was "sorcerer/wizard_" with "+16":

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("sorcerer/wizard ",E2)),MID(E2,FIND("sorcerer/wizard ",E2)+16,1),"")

I listed that one the exact same way for both the sorcerer & wizard columns. I couldn't (out of 1572 rows) see if there were any specific sorcerer or wizard only listings in row E.

This allowed me to populate a spellcaster column with a spell level, since each row is dedicated to a spell name.

Now I can use the options in Excel to filter by class, then sort by level. Might be able to do the same thing in Google Docs, and it wouldn't be too much more work to update if more gets added to it in the future. Since you're not changing the structure of column E, you could maintain that for export to other aspects of the site.

It could also lead to easier queries in a caster-sheet situation.
