Pathfinder Newbie looking for people to play with online? Not sure how to ask...

Recruitment

Good day,

A few months ago, I decided to purchase a bunch of Pathfinder RPG books to learn about the system (Core Rules and advanced rules, basically). I had previously played some Old and New World of Darkness games with a friend as the GM, but I found it a little too dark for my tastes, with my first taste of pen and paper basically ending up with my character going nearly mad and being taken care of by a fish monster in the sewers (as in fed by and sang to by one).

ANYWAY.

I'd quite like to join a game that's being held online, either by post, or through Google+ Hangout or Skype, but I don't know the first thing about how to join one. I heard there was a sort of persistent world setting available, and that seems interesting to me as an MMO player, but I don't know how to get into it. :(

Can anyone help me out with some instruction? I wasn't sure where to turn, so I posted here in the hope of getting a kind soul to help me out.

Thanks in advance for nay responses.

PS: I live in the Philippines, which is in a GMT+8 timezone. I hope that won't be an issue.

Welcome!

Recruitment threads are usually started by the DM, and most recruitments are open to everyone (unless otherwise stated). If a recruitment comes up that looks interesting to you, just post there to apply (Check the opening post of each recruitment to see what the DM expects in your application).

New games tend to fill up fast, so it helps to be early. I.e. check back often.

The "persistent world thing" you have herd about is probably Pathfinder Society Organized Play (there should be a big link to it on the top left of the page, if you want more infos). Look for recruitments with "PFS" in their title for that.

Congrats on joining Pathfinder!

There's plenty of threads here on the forums, especially in the Online Campaigns section. Try the Recruitment threads. There tend to be games popping up every now and again, with plenty of players signing up. Just don't get downhearted if you don't get picked, or if the game you join falls apart. Those both happen a lot, and there's a number of other threads on here about just those situations.

My advice is to make up a few good characters, just race-class and background information, and try applying with them. Work some basic crunch and stats in to be more serious when you need to.

Best of luck!

Edit: Ninja'd by the Friendly Lich!

Thank you for the link information. :)

Do you think I should try for a simple campaign, or just jump into persistent play? :)

I am thankful for this post. I found this area yesterday and been looking at the threads when I could.

The Friendly Lich, thanks for the link. Can't believe I am thanking a lich though.

Welcome. A week ago I was in the same boat. If you learn the ropes by reading some campaign gameplay threads and the guide linked above, it shouldn't be too bad. Spend some time making a real character and you'll go far.

Good luck and glad to see someone who gets something they want to learn and goes for it. Well Done!

PFS isn't more difficult than than any other type of playing. So just start with whatever interests you the most.

"First Steps" seems to be a good start into PFS - and it is offered for PBP quite often.

Don't worry. Thats a perfectly normal side effect of being under the influence of a lich's enchantment. Er, I mean: that's because I am such a nice and friendly lich. Really, there's nothing to be worried about!
