hi ppl, i know that there are a few threads like this around but i cant seem to find a final conclusion.
ok here`s the deal , i am playing carrion crown and one of the players recently switched his elven ranger for a human paladin with a greatsword. and it seems that theres no way to stop him, we are not powergamers at all, and he can easily land around 70 dmg to any BBEG with a full attack i know that he can only smite 3 times a day, but unless it seems to be a boss we are fighting, smite is not necessary. the GM wants to kill the player specially after certain furry evil dude died in 2 rounds fighting 1 on 1 against him.
so, is the paladin just too powerfull against anything evil or is it just that carrion crown is specially paladin-susceptible?

Running Kingmaker, now at lv16. The shield-bashing fighter has the same hit/damage output as the paladin when he smites, and has had it for quite a while. The paladin has better survivability tho, with self-healing, better saves and immunities.
Also, LOL@70 damage in a round at lv7+. My paladin/monk did that and more, and he was the second coming of the Anti-OptiChrist by the standards of our table.

No, paladins are definitely situational. They can hold their own most of the time, and are awesome now and again. My 7th level paladin dished 145 damage in one round of smitey goodness, but it's a once-per-adventure thing. When it comes to kicking evil butt, Paladins shine, when it comes to hordes of mooks, fighters and barbarians shine, when it comes to hunting particular foes, ranger's shine.

Agreed-- paladins are situationally powerful, but overall they are a very well-balanced class. They are most powerful vs. undead and evil outsiders, where their smite ability dishes out a whole lot of damage.
I have a paladin in my Rise of the Runelords game. Undead, evil dragons, and evil outsiders feature regularly, but not exclusively, so when these enemies are present, the paladin shines. (And by "shine," I mean "deals out almost as much damage as the party barbarian.)
The enemies in Carrion Crown are almost always creatures that take extra damage from the paladin's smite evil, so it doesn't surprise me that the paragon of good and righteousness is kicking serious undead @$$ in this AP!
