I was stoked about the owlbear!
Then I saw these pictures...
Maybe it's just the way this guy has painted it?

I think it's the googly eyes that make it seem weird. Although the pose looks better with a mini before it; that it's raking.

Yeah the eyes were 'interesting'.

In my experience, Reaper minis stand horribly. I plan on rebasing all of the medium and large monsters. With the larger ones it really depends on the model. Assemble it and then see.

With this many, you will probably want to go out and get some cheap bases. Squares vs circles doesn't matter unless you plan on playing wargames with them (Warhammer, 40K, ect). 28/30mm or 1 inch bases are not hard to come by. Unless you are buying scenic bases, do not pay more than $.25 each because quarters work well for medium creatures, especially if you only have a few. You should be able to find bulk bases for ~$.05 or less.

I'd suggest waiting to see how the Bones stand before spending money on bases (although you can certainly get them cheap). While yes, the DHL broccoli bases can sometimes keep a model from standing well, and many of the Bones are based on DHL sculpts and also use broccoli bases, the difference with the DHL is that often they don't stand because either the metal mini is weighted funny and makes it top heavy, so it falls, or the base has metal mold lines that make it uneven. Most of the DHL figures I've rebased has been because of this second issue.

I imagine since the Bones line is much more lightweight, and with schmancier molds, this may be less of an issue.

'Course you could always order an existing Bones mini in the meantime and see...

I am terrible with eyes, but the trick my friend uses is to paint the model, then use a gloss sealer on the mini. He then paints high detail work like the eyes, and if he screws up removes the paint without damaging the base coat. Then when it is done, he goes over the model with a matt finish.

Next list of plot hooks I write up is going to include a drug-addled, googly-eyed Owlbear. It's happening!

I just use water based paints and lick the paint off.

Do you folks agree that you would probably need paint sets 1,2,and 3 to paint all the Vampire level mini's? For a painting n00b?

My painter asked for 1&3.

Shifty wrote:

I agree. 1&3 will get you almost everything you need. I would pick up an some additional metalic (copper, bronze, mithril) because I like them. I don't see much of a use for 2 until you get to more advanced layering techniques, but can definetely see 4 being useful but not necessary.

Reaper has also announced that after the KS ends there will be a Pledge Manager app of some sort. This will allow you to allocate your pledge dollars and, more importantly, add additional money to you pledge. While this won't count towards getting new stretch goals unlocked it will allow you to defer some of the cost to a little bit later (they plan to have all pledges allocated within 30 days of the KS close).

In other words if you can afford $1 right now in a couple of weeks you can up your pledge to $100 (or whatever) and still get all of the minis at the Vampire level + whatever bonus minis you want as well. While Reaper has stated they would much rather people pledge now they are perfectly willing to accept these additional add-ons.

If we fail to reach a stretch goal for miniatures that come with a Vampire or Undertaker level, we can still purchase them as Extra Sets. Unfortunately, an Optional miniature can only be purchased (for now) once its stretch goal has been met.

I know they are displaying those as add-ons with the price shown as soon as they are revealed, but did they ever specifically say that you'd be able to purchase them even if the level wasn't met?

Today is shaping up to be the largest (again). Its significantly farther ahead than this point yesterday, so I wouldn't be suprized if it breaks 300K today. And for the first day since I started paying attention, the average pledge per backer is going down, so a lot of new blood is being brought in. That only means it will spread more :)

Taldor

We just unlocked the owlbear and griffon. The next stretch goal is a set of 4 undead villain types, lich, ghast, vamp, skeleton knight.

Really rolling along here.

I just threw in a token pledge. I'm really not interested in unpainted minis, but I'm glad this is going so well, if just in the hopes that it will also help the Legendary Encounters line. 8^)

I probably shouldn't have, but I pledged. The offer (vampire) was just too good to pass up!

Really???? Is this true? If so, that's awesome!!!!

I just want to be sure this is 100% accurate before I do it and get my hopes up (I'm emotionally fragile :)

Pretty much confirmed on Reaper's forum. So, yep, you can pledge $1 now and up to Vampire later. (I'd like to hope people pledge more than a buck to help hit those stretch goals, but I realize not everyone has a stack of cash laying around this soon after GenCon.)

Also, the Reaper Pledge Manager is supposed to accept alternate payment options like PayPal, which makes me wonder if I can use PayPal's Bill Me Later to amass an army of fire giants, hydras, etc.

Dumb question ... anyone else have trouble creating a new kickstarter account???

In the Create New Account section, I can get as far as the password field but when I try to type in the password field nothing happens! No letters, no bullets ... nothing!

Anyone else have this issue or is this just my dumb luck?

Wow. I didn't realize how many bonus minis the Vampire pledge gets. Totally worth it.

Only 10K more until we have the Undead bosses and the next Stretch Goal is revealed!

Nope, Windows PC at work using Internet Explorer. I'll try it again at home on my Mac or my iPhone ...

And the Stretch goal has been hit, the next two (at 2 mil, 60 thousand dollars) Two Storm Giants!! And I so wanna see this one hit.

Just go and click on the manage in Kickstarter. Where it shows your dollar amount add the appropriate amount to your total. So if your Vampire and want the hydra change your total to $115. Reaper will then send you an email where you select the extra mini(S) you want (ex: hydra)

Bryan how is the mood around the office now, been since GenCon since I posted this question. You answered once but that would be before GenCon.

What is AWESOME is at GenCon Paizo made the announcement of the use of offiaclly liscensed miniatures in the kickstarter. They also had printed hand outs at a table. I passed out many.

Paizo rocks to share the wealth and among hobby companies. With the release of there on set this month. Lisa Stevens email certainly helped raise awareness.

My conundrum 500 in kickstarter along with 250 RoTRL pre-order. Anyone want to buy a kidney, organ or even a toenail? Please no more add on options I may need to start giving blood.

Thanks, just means I didn't miss a step. Scary thing, even if you pledge an extra $100 to get some of the bonus stuff, it's still < $1.00 a mini.

The new stretch goal is FREE CLOUD/STORM GIANTS for the Vampire/Undertaker levels! That is mind-blowing. The lady giant sketch is a little too "Cool Mini or Not" for my tastes, but you can't beat the price.

I just watched it tick over the $2M mark. Pretty spectacular :)
How am I ever going to find the time to paint all these?!?!?

I just worked out that with all the extras I was getting of the minis in the Vampire pledge, it was actually worth my while to get two vampires.

Cheliax RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

I'm committed at the Vampire level with nearly $200 of extras at this point. In all seriousness, I may never need to buy minis again after this. My currently miniatures collection is probably in the 40-60 range. I'm getting over 250 more to add to that.

Madness.

Damn I cant believe I almost missed this deal. Cmon y'all lets get thos halflings into the deal!!!

For the number and variety of figures and addons and the quality of the sculpts this is a ridiculously good deal. I haven't been this excited over minis for a long, long time. I am trying to resist taking all the addons but I keep failing my saving throw.

me too. And those new giants, freaking AWESOME!

I just wish they'd show something Waaaay out of reach that's so awsome that people will raise their pledges just to try for it. They have stretch goals planned out to 4.15 million dollars, and they are now revealing only one at a time (and this time its Halflings and Gnomes?). Still the giants are now part of the Vampire, can't wait to get past the RUNTS and onto something cool again though. I suspect that this is going to top 3 mil at this point. A day and a half left? (and I am still trying to convince the one other person I know who could do it to fund them to the vampire level as well, my MOM, though she's still on the fence about it. (Yep, I'm 37, married with two kids, and I still will hit my mom up on something like this.)

Staggering the amount of mini's they are going to have to produce for this though if we're just talking Vampire Pledge with no extras and ignoring everyone else who gets mini's both below and above. as of right now that's 217 x 10,037 = 21,708,029. And that's just the base for Vampire level pledges.

Cheliax RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Let's not forget that they're also moving their production facilities back to the U.S. for this line, so those 21 million miniatures will directly help support the U.S. economy!

Yes they will. Though, not directly, Reaper has stated that the move probably won't bu until after the run for the Kickstarter. But still, getting manufacturing back to the U S of A and getting minis in the process, what's not to like.

I make that about 2 minis per second if they start producing now and ship next spring.

Nah, that's only a little over a month and a half's labor at that rate.

Yeah, I think I'm not gonna need to buy a lot of minis after this, save for specific character needs and more Chronoscope figs (if they'd stop putting guns in the Chronoscope figs' hands in ways that make them pains in the ass to convert, I'd probably have already bought a good chunk of the line).

Anyone wanna trade the goblins for something else? *DeathQuaker is about to admit a very unpopular opinion* I really hate the Golarion goblins and don't want any.

I will trade you all the sci-fi and zombie hunters for the gobbies!!!

Currently at less than 50 cents per mini, including some big ones like the storm giants!

however, I think you need to pledge vampire now and upgrade in the questionnaire app later. Pledging 1 USD now won't let you get Vampire or better thereafter, outside the scope of the Kickstarter.

besides, pledge vampire now, unlock more stretch goals for everyone, including yourself! :-)
