Just curious, since it became a running joke over the weekend*.

Is it pronounced like 'donkey urine', or 'Ace-pis' or Asp-is?

Spoiler:
Venture captain kept saying it like donkey urine, then when they rescue the guy he introduces himself as being Kafar agent of the 'ace-pis'.

PC: It's not pronounced 'donkey urine'?
Me: Nope.
PC: But you kept saying donkey urine.
Me: No, the venture captain did. She's biased.

My freedom loving Andoran gnome explorer chooses to emphasize the vulgar. With his Connery accent, it ends up more like "ash pish" though.

Not knowing what it is, my first estimate was "Az-pis", so that it kind of sounds like "lapis (lazuli)".

I'm of the "donkey urine" school. The Aspis Consortium has a bit of snake motif going on, but saying Asp-is requires one to cut the "p" very short just to fit in the "is." In fact, I fact myself saying "Asp-hiss" just in an effort to make it sound like one word.

Asp-is may seem thematically correct, but it's a beast to pronounce. Go with "donkey urine."

Aspis is the generic Greek word for shield. That word is pronounced AHS-pis

I'm leaning more to Ace-pis than donkey urine.

For those of you who remember Keeping up Appearances, "It's Bouquet, not Bucket!" :-)

That just made my day.

Seconded!

Liberty's Edge

I pronounce it so that it sounds like "auspice."

We have always made it rhyme with A**Kiss.

We hate those guys.

I don't know how they pronounce it at Paizo, but Vipera Aspis is latin.
I wouldn't know how to write it, and dunno if the latin of Google-Translator pronounces it right, I have no audio at present, but I'll check.

Well, 'aspic' is pronounced AS-pik... so a word with one minor letter of difference is, for me, AS-pis

But then, I didn't notice the toilet-ensemble until this thread.

I checked. The latin (and to my surprise, also the english) pronounce in the Google-Translator does it right.

Asp-is. I emphasize the asp.

I think I'm going to keep the actual members saying Ace-pis, and use 'donkey urine' as a Pathfinder injoke. :-)

I always called it Ap- sis (much the same way Brett Favre's name is pronounced Farv), but then, I'm a half-orc rogue so whadayaexpect? :D
