no need to bot Seijiro - I think he already acted by swinging down to the deck this round... haven't seen a new round go up since then, so I've just been waiting my turn. If I missed something, let me know.

I understand completely. I think the whole thing got a bit confusing when we had that hiatus - but that said...

On your last post you said you'd be swinging down by Rain; then the GM put the Combat Map up, but he didn't position you by Rain (I'm guessing he's letting you decide specifically where you landed). Anyhow, the point is, on the main map you're still relatively at the crow's nest position.

Meantime, after you posted that you were swinging down to Rain, then it flipped to the GM's turn and he had the Elemental take it's action.

At this point the GM had the Elemental move forward to Rajah and tripped him and pinned Rajah underneath it for its action.

Then it flipped back to our turn.

So far this round Rain made her Piloting Checks, Variel charged as close to the enemy as he could for his round, Horatio fired a shot at the Elemental and (thanks to the Critical Hit Deck) was able to "Push" the Elemental back and free Rajah from being pinned.

So now - theoretically - Dhaavan can order his hounds to advance to stop the creature from moving back to Rajah (not sure if they can attack the creature as it's off the ship, unless they all line up and spit fire at it?) - and he can do something else this round.

I'm not sure what Rajah will do now that the creature is off him, but he can still act, and I think you can, too.

Meantime, as Rain already suggested, we still have the NPC's to act if we want them to (that is Adular, Adistan and Jamba) - they may end up "staying below" to make sure our passengers/recent rescued folk are safe (which keeps them out of the fight and makes it a bit easier to micro-manage) but then again - maybe we'll end up using them?

All things considered, it might actually be a good idea for you and Dhaavan to just "Hold Action" until we hear from the GM as it looks like the Elemental might have to suffer another Critical Hit card effect.

While the GM has said that won't do the standard x4 damage from Critical Hits from firearms (because the enemy is an Elemental and they don't suffer critical hit damage) he say they'd have to deal with drawing from the Critical Hit deck.

When Horatio did the critical it forced the Elemental back off the ship, who knows what will happen with Amen-set's critical hit? It may cause the creature to fall beneath the waves, or something else... But whatever it does, it probably will effect what you guys want to do to it.

Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post, I'm just trying to be helpful and I know that sometimes you can't see the Combat Map very well.

That said - good luck and good hunting and hopefully we can drop this thing :)

Mister Rajah, may I ask a small favour, sir? Are you able to place your vital stats under your alias, like the rest of us, please? It just makes it easier to see people's hp etc instead of having to go to their respective profiles.

Thanks kindly. :)

Unless you actually go below deck to check you aren't sure. Everyone is pretty busy with the race right now.

While Horatio didn't go below deck personally, my intention was to send an NPC below to check on the officer via this -

Horatio Flynn wrote:

Pausing a moment he calls to Adular -

"Padre, how's the lass doing below?"

GM - I'm just trying to make sure the officer from that ship we picked up earlier is okay given the craziness of the storm and her medical condition. Any news on that front?

Don't get me wrong - at this point I'm actually pretty happy the post was overlooked because Adular was able to heal the others, but yeah - I wouldn't have asked about the officer without sending down a trained healer to check things out :)

Given what's happened, if you're willing to ret-con it, would it be possible to send Sandara down to check on the girl instead?

Also, Horatio exhausted his Grit earlier. Does he regain it with the Critical Hits on the Elemental earlier (not sure if that works via Elementals).

Also, I tried to move Horatio forward on the map and miscalculated how far he could move - but then he disappeared from the map.

I could "select" him, but he was invisible. I tried to move him back where he was to begin with, but he is still invisible, and I think I somehow moved some of the grids that made up the ship map, but I don't know...

Sorry for any confusion, I'm eager to post/help as soon as I can but I don't know what I did to the map :(

Co-GM: Sounds good, thanks!

Meantime, do you have a ruling on sending Sandara to check on the girl as Adular is above decks? If she is able to, do we have a status on the officer?

Meantime, given that it's a surprise round and that the enemy has the initiative I'm not even sure how many actions (via Standard and Move Actions). That being the case, Horatio's intent is to move forward so he can aid.

If he can shoot, too, he'll do that (assuming that the visible creature isn't already dead. If it is already dead, there's no way Horatio can shoot the second target, unless someone is able to purge its invisibility.

For now I guess I'll wait to hear about how far I can move, how many actions I can take, and the status of the enemy before I make my action.

These creatures are immune to invisibility purge specifically but that was a great try!

Yeah Enhancement bonuses don't stack.

As far as I know, Rajah hasn't taken any damage up to this point. But I do tend to completely forget things so it's highly possible/probable I could be wrong. :P

@Seijiro: Okay, you said this: Seijiro strikes again at the visible (ie glittery) enemy attacking Rain, flanking it with Variel if possible...
but you're still on the map quite a ways away. So I'm wondering exactly where you are suppose to be because I don't want to move into a square that's suppose to be occupied by you.

@Javell: I've moved Jiro's token to where I believe he wanted to be positioned (Jiro, if that's not the correct sq, please feel free to move the token - thanks). Last round he swung off the mast and attacked the elemental but the token wasn't moved - that's why it's a distance away. Q4 is perfectly free for you to move to. :)

Crap!

Dhaavan - my apologies!

First, I should have not of referred to you as 'Ser Dhaavan' (by the way, in this case I'm using George Martin's version of "Sir" - it's supposed to help people get that "Ser" refers to a knight while "Sir" is more like "mister").

I forgot you aren't a Knight, you are a Lord.

Meanwhile, as it is customary for Commoners to refer to a Lord as "M'lord" and for Highborns to refer to a Lord as "My Lord" - as Horatio was knighted he did call you "My Lord" - but I should have also capitalized "Lord" as it proper noun as it's a formal Title and I messed that up, too.

Rajah - I'm tossing this up here to help clarify things a bit on how Horatio is addressing the other officers. Technically Dhaavan is the only Lord in our company - but, unfortunately, I don't know the proper term of address when speaking to the First Officer from a subordinate officer; so I just stick with "My Lord" or "Lord Dhaavan".

As an aside, the term "Captain-General" and "Pilot-Major" are derived from 16th century British terms for officers on a ship (Horatio went to the Sargavan Naval Academy; and he figures using proper title when some wizard is watching us with a crystal ball to make sure we're not cheating is good policy). I think they use those terms to not only designate nautical titles while on ship, but I honestly don't know why the titles were used. But I read Shogun cover to cover over 17 times in my life, and so "Captain-General" and "Pilot-Major" are kind of rooted into my subconscious when I play this game :)

Oh, and for what it's worth, Dhaavan is generally very gracious about titles - I honestly don't think he would mind; but I reread my recent post and I was like - "Damn, I should have known better" - so I figured I'd do what I could, just in case :)

Honestly, I was just rolling with what you called them. It's what you said they were called so I copied/pasted them on Rajah's sheet so I wouldn't forget. Whether Dhaavan is a "Lord" or not, is not really a focal point for Rajah; it's what Horatio said he was called so he just went with it. :)

You could've said: "That's Dhaavan the Destroyer of Worlds" and I'd be busting out with: "Well met, Dhaavan the Destroyer of Worlds. So, what do you do for fun?" ;)

Of course, every time I see "Captain-General", I can't help but sing: "I am a very model of a modern Major General..." :P

No, the one atop Rain and close to Jiro is now dead (that was the first exposed elemental).

The one Immortal is describing is the one to the right of Rain and in line with Rajah. To make it easier I've removed the first elemental off the map.

GM: At this time we need to know where the location of the new island is in relation to us - specifically for the purpose of knowing where it is in relation to decent ports to buy things and for the purpose of calculating the duration of the trip.

We need to know what the rough dimensions of the island are - given that we have multiple sets of well-made charts/maps/nautical instruments created for the entire Shackles, we should have a general outline of a map of the island to ascertain its size, good points of landing, and so on.

I'd like to know specifically how much each of us earned gambling for the race. We made different size bets at different odds.

It's not possible for those earnings be equal, however, knowing those numbers will be important when we decide to buy equipment.

Thank you very much for this information and I hope you have a great day!

Horatio is for waiting after we get to the island.

Not trying to be difficult, but unless we buy stuff on the island we're on then we'd need to sail south before we got to a place to buy gear.

If we go to Quent or Bag Island and then back to the new island that could possibly take a week and probably even more if we head somewhere further south and I had the impression that we're really pressed for time.

Don't get me wrong - if everyone's cool with a trip to buy stuff then it's totally cool.

On the other hand, I'm also not sure what sort of gear we'd need to buy (though buying crafting supplies to craft our own needs couldn't hurt).

Still, if we have to buy stuff then I agree with Rain - it seems like the best port for us is Quent; it's close enough that it could be considered on the way and it's pretty well stocked from what I remember, and we get good deals there on account of Lady Fairwind.

But now that I think of it; the GM said we had 3 months to accomplish this mission.

We started the game on Level 1 and we've got all the way to level 8 and according to the Ship's Log it's only been about 4 months in-game, so maybe I'm worrying about nothing when it comes to what we can do with three months of time :)

So was wondering what you are all thinking as to where to go next. Do we head to the island first or do we make a round about trip gathering workers and supplies along the way so once we land work can begin immediately.

Variel - Rain advises going to get supplies and workers.

I have no problem with getting supplies, for now I'd rather do that as fast as possible. We could get the supplies in Quent, but that would take a while to get there, I think. Still, I'll go to wherever we decide so long as we get a decision.

At this point we might even be able to get supplies on this island - but we have no idea what's on this island as there hasn't been details about it via settlements.

Until/Unless we are given an actual breakdown on the type of Settlement on the island we're on currently, we can't make an informed decision on what to buy here now.

As for getting extra workers, I don't think we should get extra workers on the ship until we at least take care of the dangers on the island; otherwise the extra workers just sit in the ship until we kill whatever is there and we'd have to pay for their food and gear while we're off fighting.

Given that the other players are sitting this choice out, I think you're the one that needs to break the tie - at least on getting sailors.

Just a note, this player was working till midnight, driving, so not really able to post, and got home pretty zonked.

But I'm up and parsing what all got posted, so I'll have a couple coppers to put in shortly
