Kaidan our Japanese Horror setting is kickstarting! Go check out the promotional video, become a backer, or share it and help us get the word out. You can find it HERE
At last - hurray! I look forward to see how much is collected and what can be released. I hope it does well.
I have been so impressed with everything that have bought from Rite Publishing that I am backing this one. I am glad that you had a level that I can afford on my Rappan Athuk induced shoestring budget. I wish I could afford the $100 pledge, but I can only throw in $15 for the pdf's this year. I hope that we get lots of pledges. I hope we get to the Player's Guide and to the Bestiary! -Aaron

The tiers are Steve's bailiwick. However, let me ask, what suggestions would you make for tier rewards above 100? I was thinking this morning of perhaps suggesting a $150 tier offering all the Kaidan PDFs made to date and a $225 tier offering the same as the 100 and signed copies of the three Golden Spear modules.

Thanks for the support! Believe me, I fully understand about not being able to pledge as much as you'd like to. But every little bit helps and gets us closer to that goal of the Bestiary.

But every little bit helps and gets us closer to that goal of the Bestiary. I like the bit about the more that is pledged, the larger the bestiary. If you guys wind up having to write a 1,000 page bestiary, will that hold up the rest of the project?

A 1000 page Kaidan bestiary. It is to dream. :) But no. If we have to do a mega-bestiary, I do not foresee it at all significantly affecting the release of the other two books. More funding means more funds to bring on other freelancers on a per-word basis to help with the stating up of creatures.

Access to previous PDFs is definitely a worthy addition to the rewards (for one such as myself who does not currently have any). Another consideration would be to break out some of the individual items offered at the $1,000 - such as a custom map, the large-scale full color maps. Or go hog wild - maybe calligraphy of character names?

Indeed :P But the intent of the thought is there: Kaidan is a setting that plays to those interested in Japanese culture / mythology, so it's a logical extension that those interested in buying the book might pay a bit extra to get some extra bits with that Japanese flair to them.
What about another step that can get the hardcover book instead of the soft cover? Potentially another step above that for a signed hard cover? Admit I was a bit disappointed only the top tier had that option available (and sadly I definitely don't have that amount available to me) but another 100 and some wouldn't be out of reach. Also congrats on clearing 25% on the first day! I really hope we hit the player's guide, it looks like it would have some fantastic information in there.
I contacted Steve about possibly changing/updating the payment tiers with the suggested bonuses suggested above. We are past 33% of our Tier 1 goal. Thank you, everyone who has backed this so far! I am hopeful.
Just for incentive, I wanted to explain the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2, and why the jump in price for 50 more pages for the Complete Gamemaster's Guide to Kaidan. The primary cost differential is maps. We want to include lots of special mapped locations within the gazetteer portion of the handbook. This is one such mapped site I plan to include in Gamemaster's Guide, the tengu village of Akayama (red mountain). We want to include up to a dozen such sites. Enjoy!
After 2 days we are at 43% of the way to our first goal! Another thank you to everyone helping to push us along and, please, share the Kickstarter page with your friends. It would be great if we could hit the halfway point sometime today and the first goal by next week.

I am going to be transparent about the issues with why I have not done tiers beyond $100.00 it has to do with printing costs, shipping costs, and not offering something that say a level X would feel he was entitled to. With the previous PDFs if bought in a bundle are worth about $32.00 not $50.00 so its something I am still thinking on, and some of those products have royalty agreements rather than that $ going to a new product. I did the PRINT copies of the trilogy in color and via Cubicle Seven so I don't control the costs on those nor do I control the shipping costs. I am trying to come up with valuable rewards that don't sink the production budget.
We're almost halfway to Tier 1 - thanks for everyone getting us this far. Please, please, spread the word, blog about this, share this with your friends. We dearly wish to give you the best possible product, only you can make that possible.
For those who have not seen it, we have a free module we released last year set in Kaidan: Frozen Wind. Give the module a look-over, its a fun evening's worth of play; and please consider supporting our kickstarter. :)
As for testmonials, consider these excerpts from some of the past reviews of our products... Excerpt from a review of #30 Haunts for Kaidan: "It's my favorite Pathfinder setting so far! ...I’m a big fan of Japanese folklore and if I’m going to play a D&D-esque game, I prefer a more esoteric setting like Kaidan."
Excerpt from a review of The Gift, Curse of the Golden Spear 1: "...the subsequent horror-encounters are demented, dark and deadly and rank among the finest I've read in quite a while - Kaidan manages to walk the tight rope between horror and fantasy with a deceptive ease and furthermore accomplishes the feat of being unique and captivating as both a setting and an adventure. Fans of Ravenloft HAVE to check this out. Fans of Gothic Horror should check this out. Fans of the darker aspects of Japanese folklore and mythology have to check this out."
As of this morning we are 33% towards Tier 2, or 56% to Tier 1, so progress is moving forward. I thank all those who have granted pledges to this Kickstarter, thus far. The word seems to be getting out - keep telling all, please.
Thanks for everyone who pledged or is spreading the word for us. Here it is on Day 5 and we've collected $2435 which is 60% to our Tier 1 goal, or 34% toward Tier 2. Steve just added a couple more payment tiers on the Kickstarter as well as included all the Kaidan PDFs at the higher tiers. I thank you again!
Steve has added some more pledge levels. Go ahead and check them out. Let us know what you think. And, as always, please share with your friends! edit: ninja'd by Michael :P
Endzeitgeist wrote: Nice! Now let's hope we get to this player's guide - I SO want that particular one! You and me both. If we get to do the Player's book, it will have the Necrotic Warrior character class in it and I have really been wanting to get that one out there.
