Take or qualify for Dragon Disciple with his spell like ability counting as being able to cast 1st level spells. And use the class advancement +1 spellcasting level for his cleric advancement?

Tieflins have spell like abilities not arcane spells. The answers is NO.

The answer to your first question is no the SLA doesnt count as spellcasting, and you wouldnt be able to advance cleric level anyway as it specifies arcane casting class (not generic +1 spellcasting level)

Moved thread.

Scarab Sages

Under the Dragon Disciple Requirements- Spellcasting: Ability to cast 1st-level arcane spells without preparation.

Regardless of the fact that a Spell-like ability is merely the innate ability to cast a spell. (gee- that sounds ALOT like what sorcerers DO)

You're missing the bigger picture here...
http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/spells/darkness.html#_darkness

Darkness is a 2nd level spell. (and light is a 0 level spell, for you Aasimar DDs)

So, even (for the sake of argument) if SLA do count as spells (sorcery, at its root is technically getting a bunch of SLAs) for the purpose of DD;
The requirement is being able to cast -->1st<-- level arcane spells, which, unfortunately the innate power of a tiefling (darkness) does not qualify. (being a 2nd level spell)
