The gnome starts laughing hysterically.
Turning to Zervania, he says "I was just messin' with them. Did you see the fear on their faces when they thought there was actually an inspection?"
Turning back to the rest of the crowd, he shouts, "Just kidding, everyone! Welcome to all the new Crusaders. Everyone grab a drink - this round's on me!"
"By the way, Zervania, your shoelaces are untied."

i had a rogue friend once (consequently the friend who's son that statuette from earlier is for) who tried to bluff past my Inquisitor on more than a few occasions... i accidentally deprived him of a few prestige points because im so awesome... at +24 Sense Motive and +18 perception hes PRETTY hard to fool...

OOC: Wizzlefarb is a bard with the gnome-only Prankster archetype from Advanced Race Guide. He actually uses Perform (Comedy) with his Versatile Performance in place of Bluff and Intimidate, and I put a lot into pumping it up, which is why it's at +16 at level 3. I put him into the Silver Crusade to play against type a bit. He's chaotic good, and he joined the Crusade to make the world a better place, but his idea of doing that has more to do with spreading laughter than smiting evil.
Fromper |
Well, he's only level 3, and already at +16. The fact that my first bluff was a natural 1 didn't help. But he'll easily break +30 by the time he hits level 10.
The funny thing is that I rarely use this for bluffing in game. Perform (Comedy) is his day job, and I use intimidate to demoralize enemies in combat (planning to get Blistering Invective spell at level 4).
TriOmegaZero |
OOC: Now that I posted it and saw the computer generated die roll, it almost seems appropriate that I got a natural 1 on that bluff check. Can I use my character folio reroll? LOL
Well, it probably would have worked anyway!

Let's wake up this thread up a bit. I wish I could have gotten into it sooner.
A tall, handsome man enters the room. He is wearing extremely clean white clerical vestments (that have been modified for adventuring), and white gloves, which are in contrast with his tan skin and black hair. He is also wearing a colorful scarf with a variety of colors and patterns on it. When he speaks, he is very soft-spoken, but has a naturally soothing voice.
"Hello, fellow Silver Crusaders. I did not hear about this function until late, and I was busy with my job at the hospital. I made my way here quickly so I could be in the company of members of my lodge, which is not an opportunity I have often. It becomes tiring to work with pathfinders of other lodges that have such low moral standards. *(sighs)* Someone will have to bring me up to speed on the conversing, if they would be so kind. I hate to impose."
He looks around the room and sits down next to Catraoine Becket. He tries to make conversation with everyone, but he seems to focus most of his energy on her. While doing so, he let's his voice slip back into a varisian accent, and seems much more comfortable doing so.
He doesn't take up a drink, but will accept one if it is offered to him. He is polite, but no overly so.
Be careful around gnomes, my friends. The last one I encountered turned out to be a Glabrezu.
This character did that scenario. He himself was the one who banished the demon! (with the celestial's help, of course)
Also, this character has the Misfortune ability, so he can fudge your die rolls. He will only do so if someone is making a bluff of malicious intent, or to help with a diplomacy or sense motive check, or something equivalent. Just ask if you want it. The ability is on page 58 of the ultimate magic:
Misfortune (Ex): At 1st level, as an immediate action, you can force a creature within 30 feet to reroll any one d20 roll that it has just made before the results of the roll are revealed. The creature must take the result of the reroll, even if it’s worse than the original roll. Once a creature has "suffered" from your misfortune, it cannot be the target of this revelation again for 1 day.
Bree-Bran |
"The Hospital? Good to hear that there are those around who are capable of such a thing. Most times when on a mission, it is to each his or her own."
Bree-Bran is a rather severe paladin of Iomedae, with the trappings. She wears full plate armor, and a pair of greatswords across her back. By the looks of her, she's from Cheliax.
"It is good to spend some time not watching backs or worrying that what is being said to you is entirely a lie. Talking to those with similar compasses and experiences is a welcome change."
Bree-Bran |
The paladin nods slowly to Jerry. There are good people in many places, but then there are bad ones too. Have you ever run into those of the Aspis Consortium? I did, right on the next island over. They lied about trading an artifact, and then attacked us. At the same time, good people were in the tavern, having lunch."
She sighs a little, and nods to the velociraptor. "Some of my most difficult challenges come from people. Figuring out who is good and who is bad is hard. With a demon, it is usually really easy to know right off.
Ziggy' |
Apparently all the people speaking earlier in the thread left the room or all went comatose, ha ha
"Ah it seems like you misunderstood me." He smiles. "I did not mean to generalize. I do not look down upon the other lodges. They are full of good people, many of whom I have grown to respect and trust, including a tiefling. I always try my best not to judge. However, being a pathfinder isn't always easy. At times, other pathfinders are not always so principled. On one of my first missions, my fellow pathfinders boldly attacked an unarmed woman purely because of negative presumptions about her. She was just defending herself. I did my best to get between her and the others as to protect her life. A paladin in the group determined that she was evil using the power bestowed upon him, and found that a just reason to slay her. I believe in the preservation of life, and watching him take her life right in front of my eyes was... horrible. However, as unjust as it was, seeing this did prepare me for me to some of the more difficult realities of being a pathfinder, and I resolved I would never let something like this happen again." He sighs, and starts lightly massaging his hands. "But," he adds, "that is why I am a member of this lodge. Together, we can accomplish great achievements for good. Oh," he jolts, almost spilling his drink "I have forgotten to introduce myself! My name is Ziggy." He puts down his drink, gets up and starts shaking hands and learning others' names.
Seriously, she was an orphan caretaker. Her primary attack was with a shoe. I think it was in one of the first steps missions.
Xuttah |
The red-robed aasimar sympathetically pats Ziggy on the shoulder.
"Alas, Ziggy, I have heard this tale of the old lady who fought with a shoe. She cared for so many children, but what did she do?
To undertake what should have been a delicate investigation in such an unlawful and brutal way is unworthy of our brothers and sisters in the Society."
He absentmindedly runs his fingers along the strand of pentagram-engraved prayer beads that hangs from his belt.
"Sometimes, it falls to us to serve as an example for them to follow -even if that occasionally means that we have to sacrifice the so-called 'easy win' in exchange for one that meets our higher ethical standards."
Zervania |
Ah yes, an unfortunate occurrence that was, Ziggy was it? anyway it is nice to welcome you into the lodge on this fine evening... [sigh] if only my darling daughter would have returned today it would have been a wonderful night for a stroll and some friendly discussion. perhaps i could have even convinced her to leave the society's adventuring to other recruits, i do worry so, and i am far too old to do more than keep an eye on her and her younger sister... ah well that is quite enough of an old man's moaning, go, go, enjoy your evenings, for tomorrow there will likely be work to be done, the Aspis Consortium grows ever more restless and numerous these dark days.
Zee is my first pfs character, he ventured through society play to reach the esteemed rank of Venture Captain, but has not been granted his own lodge, as such he works as an assistant to his old lodge leader Ollysta Zadrian. however seeing as i need new characters to play and i like to stay within the bloodline his children are my current characters all grown up, and this pushes the timeline in strange ways. society has never really cared about continuity as you will find out, so at this point Zee is a 60-70 year old man who settled into his roll behind a desk only well in the last 10 years. he will have very enthusiastic conversations about any diety, demon, or other creature that can be known about though knowledges religion, planes, nature, or arcane. and will gladly tell you about his adventures, should you ask politely.

Jerry returns in earnest. "Where you from?" He pulls out a map and points to the middle of the Arcadian Ocean "Jerry from here."
My apologies Jerry for having to step out for a while. I was called to help my fellow dwarves retrieve some of our lost history beneath Janderhoff and in the lost Sky Citadel of Koldukar.
I did not mean to leave you so abruptly. I am from Sky Citadel Janderhoff in the Mindspin Mountains.

And she is worse than you make her out to be - definitely in need of replacing in the orphanage. Her worst offense is letting the children she cares for remain sick longer than necessarily so she can make a profit selling the medicine that she's supposed to be using on them, and treating them using other means, which aren't always as effective. There's also the issues of the child labor and being an alcoholic, which aren't absolutely evil, but are definitely not what the people donating medicine to her home are expecting from her.
Zervania |
Well, my large friend, The consortium has many agents, but i have found in my years that few things can stop them better than a few well placed arrows. However, this doesn't mean that you should just slay them willy-nilly! as i have always said, No man may walk in the darkness so long that he cannot return to the light! unfortunately it was not until late in my career that i learned this fact to be true, and developed a method of... lets just say more peaceful means of pacification. i have always said that faith and mercy go further than any arrow may fly. not to mention the dead are much harder to question! HAHAHAHAHA.

A female tengu, no older than 22, walks into the temple. The robes she's dressed in are old and frayed, and the ends of the sleeves seem to have burn marks on them. Her talons and arms are wrapped tightly in bandages.
She looks around the room, then checks back to the scrap of paper she has, she nods, sure that she's found the right place.
Seeing that a woman is performing--who knew temples scheduled live performances?--she instead sits down so she can listen to her song. Introductions can wait until after she was done, the tengu supposes
Ziggy' |
Ziggy turns Father Palatino(xuttah). "Very well said, father." He turns to everyone else. "I do apologize for the sharing my negative experiences almost right as I walked in the door... It's been a long day. I'm here to relax." He glances at the tengu. It appears that he was going to ask about her wounds, but he stops and instead continues to make conversation.
For those who are especially perceptive, you may notice somethings peculiar; despite his clerical dress, Ziggy does not appear to have any symbols of any God on his person or clothes.
Nonnie Kaneis |
A nervous looking man walks in and orders coffee. He finds a table in the corner and sips his drink. He looks surreptitiously around and relaxes a bit, seeing no one he knows.
Why would I think I could get coffee in a temple? May I be forgiven for my impertinence. I only wish that ordering a beverage in a temple were the worst (and stupidest) thing I had done.
IQuarent |
Lady Kakuriyo, it appears that you also have been cursed by the gods. I had heard tales of the raven people, but you are the first I have met.
*faceplam* Directs himself towards Nonnie.
"She is a tengu, sir, a race like any other. I am an aasimar myself, a half-breed, if you will. I would hate for people to consider me better purely by my plane of influence. Some of us are just born this way. I have met tieflings and others, all of which I found to be good people. Are we cursed as well?"It's all good. I know you're just playing your character
Directs himself towards Kakuriyo. He bows slightly.
"Good evening, Lady Kakuriyo. I don't believe that we have met before. You are not the first tengu I've met and I do not believe you are bringing any curse into this temple."
He walks a up to her with his hands folded.
"I couldn't help but notice when you entered that you are injured. I was about to ask, but I saw that you were enjoying the music, so I waited. Would you allow me to attend to your wounds? Don't worry, I am the master healer at the hospice where I work."
Heal Check= 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28. He also is able to use healing spells if you consent to it.

Late reply is late. Also my character never gave her name but whatevs.
The tengu laughs a bit. "No, no, it's fine. I think he was talking about my arms." She holds out her bandaged arms. "But he was spot on! These babies right here were a curse from the gods alright, and I'm sorry to say you probably can't heal them." When you inspect her bandaged arms you see that they have been very badly burnt for quite some time; it's a miracle that they're even functional at all.
"But it's ok, they don't hurt too bad, and how I got these burns was actually pretty cool. Y'see--oh whoops, I got off topic, didn't I? Anyway nice to meet you two; please, call me Seimei, or just Sei. Less syllables. I've never been called Lady Kakuriyo before; it makes me feel all fancy, but it feels a bit awkward too, if that makes sense."
Despite how burnt her talons are, she's still more than willing to shake your hands. "I just joined the Silver Crusade! I used to be with the shadow lodge because I wanted to keep pathfinders safe but... Anyway, I look forward to working with you guys! And wow, a lot of priest and paladins here!"
Nonnie Kaneis |
"Please pardon my ignorance, Seimei. No offense was intended and I am relieved that I have caused no offense. I was indeed referring to your hands. My penance is not so visible as yours, but is present just the same."
He rises to shake hands, but his chair tips over, leaving him sprawled face down on the floor. He picks himself up, dusts himself off and gestures toward the chair, which rights itself.
"Sometimes my curse is a bit more visible."

I strive to live up to the ideals of my oaths to both my paladin hood and the glorious silver crusade. may you ever need my help I and my battle hardened steed zanther shall charge your way , you shall recognize us as the the sun glints off the tip of my lance pointed at your foes and the sound of the metal barding flapping against zanthers side. For I strike my enemies down with a smite filled radiant charge that no evil as of yet has been able to take.

I noticed that you did not say your name, but since Nonnie apparently knew it and said it out loud, I reasoned that I learned it from him.
I think a 28 is enough to know what kind of wounds they are, and how they are cursed. He casts detect magic on the wounds.
Ziggy clearly has very practiced hands. He looks up and talks to people, but his moves are still very delicate and precise as he inspects her injuries. It looks like he could do this blindfolded. He looks at Sei and smiles. He says, "Nice to meet you Sei. My name is Ziggy. Welcome to the Silver Crusade."
He turns towards Nonnie. "I apologize friend. I thought the statement of the curse and the comment about her race were part of the same statement. As I mentioned, people like myself have faced much prejudice, and I was not willing to accept it here. I'm glad that I was wrong."
He turns to the newcomer; "Welcome, Sir Thomas. Thank you for informing us of yourself. It's good to meet other champions of good."
Bluff Check= 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Looking at the wounds. "Ahhhhh I see. There is nothing I can do about these wounds, I'm afraid; I would know. I will wrap them as best as I know how." He does so. "But," he takes off one of his gloves, "you are not alone."
His hands appear to be burned also.
"These burns appeared when I was a boy the first time I held a sword. I haven't touched a weapon ever since."
He puts his glove back on, and flexes his fingers slightly.
Seimei Kakuriyo |
"Oh, just when you touched a sword? That's funny. I mean not 'haha' funny just find it odd. I mean for me, I got mine when I was younger and I accidentally set myself on fire."
She describes the event with a sort of enthusiasm and fondness that one would reserve for recalling birthdays. "I mean, like, it wasn't the first time I'd caught fire, but those were like small little fires you could pat out; you know how sometimes people might singe their clothes a bit when they smoke? Stuff like that. That time, however, I really set myself on fire, it was like fwoosh!" She tosses her talons up for effect.
"And there I was thinkin' I was gonna die, but then my burns stopped hurting--actually, this really good feeling washed over me, and before I knew it all my burns were healed. Well, except for these ones on my arms, but those didn't hurt anymore anyway. At first I was really confused, but then I learned later from some of the older tengu that I had channeled energy, and that a god or gods--I actually never really figured out who--had granted me powers, so I thought 'cool!' and I've been refining my healing abilities ever since. Plus, I can shoot fire from my talons; isn't that cool?"
There is a moment of awkward silence before she remembers herself. "Oh, uh, sorry. I got carried away. I do that sometimes. Anyway, how about you, Ziggy? I bet you have an interesting story about when you awoke to your gift too."
Ziggy' |
"I always knew I was blessed by the Gods. My Aasimar heritage wasn't exactly hidden." He points at his eyes. "I was also born with a birth tattoo, a phenomenon that sometimes happens to varisian youth. As I grew, it came into to focus as ancient runes of some type. I still haven't found anyone who knows what they mean. But surely, I'm destined for something." He sits down. "I was born here in varisia in a caravan. As I grew up, it became more and more obvious that there was much more to me than meets the eye. Shortly after I turned four, I discover my ability to make blazing light at my command, much to my mothers surprise. Almost every year I discovered a new ability. At five, I discovered acid slid off my skin. At six, I discovered I had the ability to create fresh water from nothing. When I was eight, our caravan was attacked, and I almost lost my older brother, and that is when I learned I could channel energy. Shortly after, I was mentored in how to use a blade, but the second I touched the handle, my hands burned from my fingertips to my forearm, like I had plunged them in burning oil. It was extremely painful. Clearly, I was not meant to use a blade. It went on this way for years. Eventually, I received a dream to come to Absolom, and in my dream I was standing in front of the grand lodge. It was then that I became a pathfinder. But, being a pathfinder took me back to Varisia, so perhaps my destiny is here. I don't know." He leans back and makes himself more comfortable. He carefully takes a healthy gulp from his drink. "Silver crusade seems to be a magnet for those who are blessed by the Gods. It seemed like a natural choice."
"What of you all? What is your country of origin?"
