Adventure Path Ideas

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

I have always loved the adventure path, due to their ability to create not just hero's out of our characters, but also legends. when I look towards future adventure paths a few ideas come to mind.

1. An AP that takes place in Osirion. Staring out as a simple tomb exploration, a group of hero's discover an ancient evil that is about to rise again. the path takes them across all of what once was ancient Osirion (Osirion, Thuvia, Nex, and Rahadoum) to gather the tools they need to combat the rise of an evil pharaoh and save the world.

2. An AP that deals with the Ancient Azlanti. After landing in Absalom in search for adventure, a group of hero's are brought together in order to excavate and ancient Azlanti ruin. they soon stumble on a plot by a Azlanti fanatic to raise the ancient continent from the sea floor and the PCs have to stop him, traveling to the mordent spire and further to catch and stop this mad man.

3. the final idea i had was an AP, dealing with the Cult of Razimir. as the powerful Razimir begins to feel weak, he hears of a set of clues left behind by past ascendents of the starstone that could give him a powerful edge in becoming a true god. The PCs must find these clues first and stop Razimir from achieving godhood, by finding useful relics, gaining blessings from all the previous ascendents (even ones who are dead), and facing Razimir himself. and if they become gods on the way, all the better.

So if you also have ideas post them.

I like those, especially the one in Osirion.

I'd love to see an Adventure Path dealing with the rise of a church that claims to be good but is way too evangelical, heading toward a Golarion-wide inquisition to wipe out all other religions and also magic itself.

I like the Razmir idea, but in reverse. They start out as followers and end up as his right hand minions trying to help him ascend. It might be a tough sell though, and since it would sort of be Jade Regent meets Skull and Shackles it would most likely be a ways down the road.

We need a planes based AP for all the extra planar races that it introduced in the ARG.

Good idea if you want an evil character campaign due to razimir's LE alignment, but I think pazio would rather have good or neutralic aligned campaigns. Which is what I aimed for with the above ideas.

The ascension idea could follow a similar form with the characters having to visit pharasmara's boneyard in order to meet Aroden's ghost.

But we could also use a extraplanar or extraplanitary type campaign as well.

(1) Reminds me of the AD&D 1st Ed. Desert of Desolation series which was a epic set of adventures. It would work great for Pathfinder.

I wondr if it would be possible to an AP in some kind of high threat environment where the extra APL from advanced/monstrous race would be balanced by he higher threat rating. Would be difficult on low level casters though.

I've been looking over the advanced player's guide (I'm a johnny come lately to pathfinder compared to 99& of you) and I keep thinking the classes themselves might provide good inspiration for one. Of course, you'd have to make sure the APG wasn't REQUIRED to play it, but the class concepts could at least inspire.

As cool as the Darkmoon Vale stuff was, I think the more 'typical' parts of Andoran might use some love so...using it as the chief location and just having fun with this thread...

Chapter 1: A Doom with a Brew- Something funny is going on in Augustina, THE naval city of Andoran. It would seem an odd shift in the navy's actions has recently occurred. Higher officers are having clandestine meetings. Local politicians are acting more and more independent of Almas, and acting rather out of character. Loyalties are being swayed by the use of potions but to what purpose, and who is behind it? The trail leads outside the city. Could the Andoren Alchemical Society in nearby Alvis be involved in an attempted coup? Liquid traps and deadly drinks may hamper the investigation of a very secret craft.

Chapter 2: Three Days of the Cavalier- Having investigated the society, our heroes find bread crumbs and hints that the source of the intrigue maybe a Cheliaxian Noble House, but is it acting alone, or in service to its queen? Fortunately, our heroes need not leave Andoran to find out. A great tourney is being held by a former noble who wishes to prove that Andoran "Knights" are every bit the equal to those of Taldan, Isger, and yes, even hated Cheliax. Foreign cavaliers aplenty will be at this tourney including a certain Cheliaxian Noble House's champion, but the only way to get access is to compete. But is this Cavalier the villain? Or just a pawn in a much larger game?

Chapter 3: Mission: Inquisitor- Religious freedom is well shielded in Andoran, and some evil faiths use that shield much to the vexation of churches in service to the gods of good. This of these good temples has records, knowledge of value, that may aid the player characters in their continuing quests of just who might be pulling the strings of the usual suspect. Yet, the priest in charge will reveal NOTHING... unless the heroes agree to rescue his lover, an Inquisitor who went deep undercover into the church of Asmodeus in the belly of Almas itself. She hasn't been seen in weeks. Should the heroes be caught, the Church of Shelyn will disavow any knowledge.

Chapter 4: The Oracle's Identity- A blind man with mysterious ties to spiritual forces is causing quite a ruckus in Riverford. His pronouncements of doom and gloom for Andoran are welcome by few in power. Yet when the players manage to save him from assassination by their enemies, he confesses he hasn't known WHO he was since he gained his "cursed gifts". Can he be made to remember who he was? And why is silencing him so important to the forces that array themselves against the PCs?

Chapter 5: Where Eidelons Dare- With one part (the smaller weaker part) of a dangerous relic now in their hands, the location of the other is in unfriendly Isger at the fortress of the summoner known as Sholob Adlyr. They have until the next new moon to defeat Sholob and take the other part of the relic with them, or , if they must, destroy it using the smaller chunk of the relic they've brought with them. Failure means Andoran may soon face an ARMY of Eidelons!

Chapter 6: The Witch with the Golden Wand- At last our heroes have the evidence they need to present to the Republic's council. This may yet bring down one of the most powerful guilds in Andoran, but can they beat the Witch with the Golden Wand and her coven to it? Her revenge will destroy any chance for true justice. Will the players let her have it, or will they go so far as to ally themselves with their enemies so those enemies might live to face their crimes of treason?

Ugh. Forgive the typos, please. :(

Not familiar enough for locations or groups but I've always been drawn to big fancy magic places. A floating city, Under Water city, etc.

Ridge, those Adventure hooks sound Amazing! IT would be even more fun if the Adventures were loosely based off the movies that provide inspiration (I think I'm picking up on the movise save 1 and 4 - 3 days of the condor, Mission impossible, Where eagles dare, and the man with the golden gun, yes?). I would totally buy those and run them, I think my players would have an absolute BLAST playing them.

Thanks, Jabberwonky. Yeah, you got the movies right (and sure, tweaking them to riff more directly off their source material might improve same :) ) . I am not very good at mysteries myself, but I think some folks would enjoy an espionage/action spy sort of adventure path.

There are plenty of places in the setting where Paizo could place one if they went with that kind of thing.

Just going for a generalized theme here, but I would love to see a AP that has heavy mounted combat. I love my cavaliers but most of the time their steed is sorely under used. There is a large amount of mounted options now. Nature oracles can have a mount, summoners can ride there eidolons. Paladins with their holy mount. Barbarians with the rage talents for mounts. Plus all the new archetypes and feats in ultimate combat and the advanced race guide it just seems logical. And the big plus...when the prestige class book comes out...you need some where to ride a mammoth lol.

I noticed the same. I'd love to try playing a cavalier in a play by post online, but many of the Adventure paths just don't seem particularly friendly to the class' strengths though I hear there are exceptions.

Hidalgo!

I mean Kingmaker was the best for a cavalier so far. But they either need to make a few archetypes with the option to replace the mount. Besides the sword saint.

Someone or something is going around slaughtering dragons. The AP starts off with the death of a dragon in nearby wilderness. The PCs are tasked to investigate and soon uncover a plot millenia in the making. They then rush to Hermea to plea with Mengkare for help in fighting off the menace. After some more investigation and gathering more dragon allies, the AP concludes at an epic battle in the skies with dragons everywhere.

Wouldn't it be cool to have an adventure path that brings all the adventure paths together? Kind of a World War Golarion path. NPC's and organizations from all the paths could make appearances.

cool, but a bit too complicated.

Maybe I should mention it in the Adventure Paths That Will Never Be thread?

Some other ideas to include the rest of the inner sea region.

1. An adventure path dealing with Andoran, Galt, Taldor and maybe Cheliax. Perhaps trying to stop a war from occurring between these countries, requiring a lot of political maneuvering and spy missions.

2. An adventure path dealing with Nex, The Mana Wastes, and Geb. Dealing with artifacts or evils left over from the Nex vs. Geb war.

3. And adventure path dealing with Osirian, Thuvia, and Rahadoum. Legacy of ancient osiria or some other ancient empire.

These ideas can open up new windows into these countries and their problems.

Desert of Desolation. Good Times. Osirion AP a must.

(2) The Serpent Skull AP is exactly (as far as I can tell) an Azlanti ruin exploration/save the world AP. Mind you, I'm just playing the AP and we're only part-way through Part 2.

1. Hollow Mountain.

2. A military campaign; the party sides with(or are) Nirmathan freedom fighters, and the AP is defending Nirmathas from Molthune's latest offensive.
