So, when are Paizo releasing The Aucturn Enigma?

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've just been preparing to run Entombed with the Pharoahs and The Pact Stone Pyramid and I can't help but think that we've been waiting a long time for the final piece of the puzzle.

The hints and clues, the space telescope, The Last Theorem... my players will want to discover the White Axiom and solve the riddle of the Aucturn Enigma before the countdown finishes. And I want to know what happens if the PCs fail!

Please, Paizo, get Michael Kortes on the case and let the man fulfil his destiny before it's too late!

Sczarni

Oh, man, if Kortes wrote an Aucturn adventure, it would be an autobuy.

Overall a good book, but I was surprised by the chapter on Ancient Osirion - namely, its total lack of info on matters such as the Aucturn Enigman, the Dominion of the Black, the Last Theorem, and the "countdown clocks," all of which were featured in numerous prior products (The Pact Stone Pyramid, Entombed With the Pharaohs, Lost Cities of Golarion, et al). Dang.

A response from that chapter's author:

Well, I did touch on those in my turnovers. However, a fair amount got cut, so perhaps Paizo has plans for these subjects they weren't ready to reveal as yet.

Is he just speculating, or does he know something? Time will tell. But yeah, I very much want to see more on the Aucturn Enigma as well.

Aw man... I can handle anything, anything but hope.

The lack of Aucturn Enigma goodness in the Ancient Osirion chapter of Lost Kingdoms could mean all sorts of things. I think it probably boils down to three possibilities.

1: The powers that be have decided to back away from that particular angle of Ancient Osirion and want it to go in a different direction. Essentially they're retconning out the whole HP Lovecraft aspect of Osirion. Paizo has retconned the Golarion setting in the past (and will no doubt continue to do so as needed), but I just don't think this is the case. James Jacobs et al are big Lovecraft fans after all. Also, the relatively recent Lost Cities sourcebook was jam packed with info on the Last Theorem, countdown clocks, what have you.

2: Jeff Erwin is right and Paizo has something in the works dealing with this subject. His Aucturn-related writing in Lost Kingdoms may have been cut because it didn't jive with that future work.

3: The most boring possibility. The Aucturn info was cut from Lost Kingdoms because it wasn't particularly important - it was removed to make room for other stuff. There are no plans in the near future to address the topic.

Yes I am almost certainly over analyzing. But there ya go.

Unfortunately not from what I've read. The Mummy's Mask will have little-to-nothing to do with the Aucturn Enigma/countdown clocks.

I read the same thing stated by Mr. Jacobs shortly after PaizoCon and the announcement of Mummy's Mask. Apparently it will have some stuff on the Dominion of the Black but is not about the Acturn Enigma or the countdown clocks. I think this is unfortunate since the plot hooks have been around for a little while now and seem to be left hanging. It would be nice to see more Osiron material in the future but it's unlikely for a while after being the focus of an entire AP.

input from the developers would be nice. Are there plans to return to these hooks some time in the future?
