See the original poster didn't say which has the best spell list or the most powerful spells...he said best over all class. Best overall arcane class is Witch.

Psionics beat the hell out of arcane casting so just go with that.

But I must admit the Cleric/Oracle if played correctly can not be stopped by anything.

hmmm.... on the power & flexibility scale; Wizard > Arcanist > Cleric/Sorcerer(Paragon Surge)/Raz Priest-Sor > Psion Erudite/Witch > Druid/Shaman

Without including any of the Occult classes and only 9th Level casters:

IMHO this is how it is in the Arcane caster world:

Wizard > Arcanist > Witch > Sorcerer

I like Arcanist, It has the flexibility of the wizard, the Add the flexability of Sorcerer, and exploits

I think he made a good argument for Dr Ogbeide as the strongest arcane caster.

I dunno. Given that Dr. Ogbeide apparently leads a temple, and that a pregnancy spell seems more divine than Arcane, I'd argue that he isn't actually an Arcane caster at all.

some new materials have come out in 4 yrs.

Looks like the new materials are keeping things in bounds for the most part having Unchd Summoner replace the APG Summoner and that was mainly about the spell lists and simplifying/clarifying eidolons(lowering evolutions). So 1 out of 26 classes.
