So my Carrion Crown group gets to Feldgrau (sorry if I messed up the spelling I am travelling and don't have my book in front of me) and as is there new way of adventuring (since starting the 3rd chapter) they go around town to check out the tower first. They find the wights and destroy them with only one level lost.

Then the cleric of Desna dimension doors three of them to the top of the tower after the skeletons start shooting arrows at them. Of course there is not a full roof on the tower so they fall to the floor below, while the witch flies up separately and destroys the skeletons with a lightening bolt.

Vrood of course hears the noise. Takes a couple of rounds to prepare for the encounter (while I keep the party in rounds) and then opens up on them with Circle of Death. He takes out the summoners creature and then kills the fighter. That leaves the witch, the cleric and the summoner without his best creature. They put up a very good fight and I was not sure for a moment whether Vrood would survive. They used Black Tentacles and threw a wall of fire on him and hit him with a lightening bolt and then sent a couple of fire elementals at him. Vrood failed a spell or two from being grappled and then hit them with cloudkill, turned invisible and got off Protection from Energy (fire). The witch had only a few hit points and summoner had lost 9 CON and they decided to take the fighters body (so Vrood could not do something nasty with it and run).

They were very lucky to not have attracted attention and they did not get a random encounter the whole time.

They decided to run to Carrion Hill to find more help and to heal and regain anything they will need to make a second run at Vrood.

So, I am considering running Carrion Hill while they are there. I was thinking about it before and had kind of passed on the idea but if they are going to show up there.... Well then I think they deserve some fun.

Wild. What do you suppose Vrood will be doing during the time that the PCs are regrouping?

Osirion

Good question, Trinite. I guess it would depend on how much damage the group had done to the werewolves and cultists.
If they're going to Carrion Hill and get delayed (aka run the module), they're definitely going to complete their plans. The Demon Wolves will probably have an all-out war with the King's Wolves (is that right?), DM's call who wins. Horror AP, so prolly Demon Wolves (consequences of PCs failing).
Cultists will make their little undead army and leave, and will have successfully gotten a piece of the Carrion Crown.
The two Dark Riders have already left for Thrushmoor. The one headed to Caliphas would probably take the Werewolf Heart, so that piece is effectively unrecoverable now.
If they make it through WotW, the group will still recover the Seasage Effigy, but the Carrion Crown mixture will still be more powerful.
Advion will prolly still fail to become the Whispering Tyrant, but I'd say he should be more powerful.

ALL of this is assuming you have the cultists move on from Fel (which they would do with ALL due haste after the PC's assault). Feel free to come up with plot reasons to have the stuck there, though.

I am already working on that. He will be ready next time and it will not be so easy. I did not think they would flee the area but it makes some sense with a party member down. The group has not done any damage to anyone. Just the wights and those skeletons and then fled.

I had not considered the Way moving on from Fel. I will reread somethings and think about it. We only play once a month so I have time to figure it out. Any other ideas are appreciated.

Good call grabbing the fighter's body. Vrood could have easily used speak with dead on him to figure out a lot of what the party's up to.

They'd still better watch out for scrying magic.

Yes, they have come to the attention of bad people.

Osirion

Cool. Yeah, it just depends on where you want them to be on their schedule. They were turning the town into a small army of undead, so I would assume they'd continue doing so.
The town would be crawling with undead by the time the PCs got back, I'd think. DM Magic makes anything happen of course.
I'd rather see the PCs have to track Vrood, maybe sneak up and take him down on the way to (Thrushmoor?)Or get there too late, and he's already laid siege to the town, and the PCs have to either assault him and take him down, or get help from elsewhere to save the town.
Another alternative. By this point, the Dark Riders would have made it to their respective destinations, and the second Dark Rider's disappearance would be noticed by the high-ups in the Way, and maybe send Vrood to investigate. The PCs could encounter him either along the way to Illmarsh, or at Iomoende (don't remember how to spell it, lol) House.

All in all, you can simply have the cultists spend more time in Feldegrau and assume they had more work to do, or make a small break from the AP railroad and let the whole thing play out.

Yes, that is another option. I am glad I have a month to think about it and I am enjoying the input from others. I am out of town still but when I get back I am going to reread things and get the details down better before I make a decision but I am feeling I do not want the Way hanging out in Fel for the PCs return. Some other option works better I think. But then a clue to what is next needs to be left behind in someway that is not so obvious or it feels weird.

I am in a simmilar situation with PCs fleeing after Vrood killed (and did something awfull with the body) one of them. Gruesome but logical turn of events.

Biggest problem is how to give them the info on Dark Riders? I'm thinking if leaving a note makes any sense (a new player is joining and probably will be going to Feldgrau with a new PC from the player who lost her char) but I don't want it to seem trivial.. I do like the idea of blatant showing off by AA tho, by leaving a note intentionally

Grand Lodge

Ah, the problem solved itself.. Two new PCs went back to Feldgrau and witnessed the DArk Riders being given the urn and the skull..

So, why would vrood walk all the way to Thrushmoor? Wouldnt an undead army be quite incospicuous,? Its a long walk anyway

I better get on with the read trough then :D

There is that problem - where would Vrood go next and when is the good time for him to crop up again?
