100 Swords or 100 Weapons

Product Discussion

Just a quick question: If you were buying a cheap PDF containing a bunch of magic gear, would you rather have something very focused, like 100 Magic Blades, or something a little more general, like 100 Magic Weapons? (Or maybe something else?)

I'd prefer generic abilities that I can apply to anything, or at least many different things.

Javelin of lightning << Vorpal < Shocking

Unfortunately, I don't quite think I can come up with 100 different weapon abilities. :)

At least price them sensibly when someone rips your unique weapon's ability and puts it on another weapon :)

I'm trying to either make all of the abilities limited per day or priced as weapon bonus equivalents.

I don't have many of the items made yet, but I was wondering whether people would be more likely to buy "100 Magic Blades" or "100 Magic Weapons," since those are the only two options I'm most likely to be able to finish for now. ;) Of course, it'll be a while in any case, so this is mostly hypothetical.

100 Magic Blades sounds more eloquent, but 100 Magic Weapons would be the more useful book. Having said that, it's nothing something I'd be inclined to buy unless it was really, really cheap.

This.

OR if you are doing specific weapons with backgrounds, history, and full write up descriptions, various weapons. Not everyone uses swords.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have no idea how PDF pricing works, and I'll wait until I actually finish before I worry about it, but I was imagining something like $0.99

Edit due to ninjas: Yeah, it's full writeups like the specific weapons in the core book. I may pull some of the more generalizable ideas out in an appendix, but I really doubt I could make a sizable list of generic weapon abilities.

Sign me up for 100 Weapons. A good reason for people in the party to branch away from swords is great by me. More maces, more axes, more polearms, more hammers and morningstars and...

Weapons it is then, and this is pretty much my logic too.

it might be more fun if you take some of those odd ball weapons that are never used and give them some magical properties that only work with that style of weapon.

Maybe a short history of why that weapon has that enchant.

Do something like the goblins Dogstabber and the Horsesticker. (which I probably have bungled the names.)
