Undead Mounts

Rules Questions

Googled, then searched these threads, and I still don't really know where to look to find the difference between riding an unintelligent, undead mount, and a living one. Is there a difference?

Creatures lacking intelligence score cannot be trained like those with animal intelligence so they will be unable to perform tricks like trained mount. On the other hand they don't require combat training like living horses because they are not naturally afraid of combat, noise, etc. They still be able to follow simple commands issued by their creator/controller, such as "attack", "stop", "move".

Mainly, what I'm asking about is the Ride skill. Is it even neccesary with an undead mount? Surely so, but...?

It is, it covers both controlling the mount and the characters ability to stay on mount/perform riding-based maneuvers. No amount of control over undead mount will allow clumsy, unskilled necromancer jumping safely on his skeletal horse or jumping off of it. He has to train to do that.

Whether riding an animal, an intelligent being, an undead or a construct: the skill you require remains Ride.

One could argue that for riding a machine (construct or non-intelligent undead), you'd need a piloting skill, instead... but since there is no such skill in PF, you'll have to stick to Ride.

Grand Lodge

Profession is the usual skill for piloting a vehicle.
