Has anyone used the slow xp track for their adventure path campaign? Do you think this would just end up getting the PC's too far behind the curve or not?

The APs are designed for the medium advancement track. If you use the slow one, then yes, the characters will soon fall behind. Unless you add a lot of level-appropriate side-quests that allow them to earn extra experience. A lot.
I ran ROTR and parts of CC with the slow path.... we just added in side quests between APs and had more roleplaying in each module...
I'm using it in Kingmaker, and throwing lots of extra stuff at them.
Makes them older, wiser leaders I think.
