Good idea or not?

Advice

Starting a ninja in a western setting. He will look and talk like all the cowboys, dress like them too. Steal and kill a lot also. I will be the face man and skill monkey.

So, my question is should I really play a ninja? (bard, or rogue?)

Cheliax

Bard/Ninja would be awesome.

How so?

Is your GM okay with a mystical ninja in his western campaign world? Otherwise it sounds like ninja is a decent fit for what you are looking for in a character (face man, skill monkey).

Inquisitor would get my vote though, mainly because Stern Gaze seems very thematic for a western game.

Not really, he wants more of a western theme. I just thought of him as an assassin from -Asia equivalent- who is doing his best to blend in completely. Inquisitor does really fit too though!

Depends on how much racism the DM puts into the game. If he goes for more historical levels, you won't make as effective a face.

Deadwood is awesome!

That is all.

Also, Bard >>>>>>>> All other classes combined for face, and most skills.

Bardic performance ideas:
Piano, hilarious for bar fights
Banjo
Harmonica, you could use a neck stand to keep your hands free
Whistling
Clapping, including slow clapping
Slight of Hand (Farro), this requires some homebrew...

I could see that working.

Haven't you ever seen Shanghai Noon?

You can be Jackie Chan! I say do it.

You don't have to go with an Asian theme to be a ninja. I'd think of yourself as a rogue with a slightly different skill set. In that same vein I'd think of Ki less as mystical power and more as intense badass training, but that's just me.

Yup! He will Jackie Chan various items to be weapons, and yes chaoseffect, I agree. The area is pretty racist.... and yes, I MUST play a bard here now!!!
