PFRPG / DCC mushed together

Suggestions/House Rules/Homebrew

I'm working on combining the parts I like from PFRPG rules and DCC rules into one whole system. Anyone else trying anything like this?

Wow, that unpopular, lol. I'm enjoying it though. Been eagerly waiting for the PF Advanced Race Guide since it was announced, but classes (in any system) never did much for me. But as soon as I read through the DCC classes I fell in love with them. They're simple, dangerous (to the PC), with fun random effects. I'll post what I'm taking from each soon for PEACHing. Figured I'd continue in the same vein and cut-and-paste a campaign world together with pieces from every 3.x source I could get my hands on too. Putting together a 30 piece puzzle made out of map pieces is really hard.

I'm thinking about mushing them as well but not along the lines of class. The thing I really like about DCC is the idea that magic can fail and have consequences as well as work better than you expect it to. THAT sounds like magic to me - it's a nice change of pace from cookie cutter spell effects. I also like the idea that your deity can become displeased at you for casting clerical spells. It creates a richer relationship between clerics and gods I think. The idea that clerics have to atone for bugging their god too much is again something that I think is a real improvement to the way divine magic is handled typically.

I know Pathfinder has Spell Blights - so I may look into expanding those rules rather than creating effects lists for every spell like in DCC.

Look forward to hearing more about what you come up with.

@Posr
Yeah, that was what attracted me too - the idea that magic could fail and have consequences. Then the more I read the more interesting the classes seemed - like (again with magic) each person's magic missle looks different, and has a different effect on the caster - like maybe every time the caster uses the spell, someone they know dies.

I hated DCC's races as classes though, and I like just about everything Pathfinder does, so started splicing.

Sometime soon I'll start another thread with the details of what I'm taking from each, and how to make a combo character etc. I'll send you a PM with the link when I do....would love some PEACHing when the time comes.

DCC is what ?

DCC is Dungeon Crawl Classics. They've put out adventures (and a setting) for various systems for some time now. Recently they came out with their own take on old-school rules, streamlined, with game balance attained through randomness rather than paying close attention to attributes and such.

Thanks. It'd be interesting to see a summary of what DCC did for their rules set.

They got rid of as many rules as they could, simplifying everything. XP is simpler. No feats. No skills per se. 4 traditional classes, and 3 races as classes. No races beyond these. Magic is random and dangerous to the caster. Thief/rogues autocrit under certain conditions, slitting throats, popping eyeballs, etc. Warrior/fighters are action heroes, doing stunts in combat. 3 alignments.

Yea - a lot of OSR stuff speaks to me event though I mostly DM PF(hence the alias) but race as class didnt appeal to me much back in the day and still doesn't. Overall they did a great job with DCC though.

Incorporating their treatment of magic into PF would be awesome.
Also - I looked up PEACHING in the urban dictionary and got scared.

Please Evaluate And Critique Honestly = PEACH as I understand the context here.

@Turin: Yeah, something like that :) Once I get around to posting the combo of the two I'm working on. May take a few days. RL is really busy.

@Posr Hate race as class too.
Edit: You're right - Urban dictionary is pretty scary.

Ok, I've begun putting what I have so far up.
