WIP - Asmodean Demon Hunter (Ranger+Summoner PRC)

Suggestions/House Rules/Homebrew

I started this, but ran out of ideas for class features

I like the fluff presented by the trait of the same name (furthers Asmodeus's "thing" of being an evil deity with worshipers that are not kill on sight, plus Devils vs Demons is one fluff bit I like seeing) but it had nothing after that. I liked the class combo of Summoner/Ranger, but it had no support or synergy and would be pretty hard to do

Alignment: Any lawful
Skills: Knowledge: (Planes) 5 ranks
Special: Eidolon or Eidolon Brood, Favored Enemy: Outsider (evil) or Favored Enemy: Outsider (Chaotic). Must be a member of the Asmodean Demon Hunters or have received training by a current or former member.

Level Progression: 10 levels
Base Attack Bonus: Full
Good Saving Throws: Reflex and Will
Poor Saving Throws: Fortitude
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An Asmodean Demon Hunter gains no proficiency with any weapons or armor.

Class Skills
Skill Ranks at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier.
The Asmodean Demon Hunter's class skills are: Acrobatics (Dex), Diplomacy (Cha), and Sense Motive (Wis).
(Class skills are one thing I'm not too sure on. PF varies on if a prc gives all "chassis" skills, or just a few your entry may lack. The difference is minimal with how class skills work especially with such a fixed entry, so I did the one that requires less work)

Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new Asmodean Demon Hunter level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if he is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Asmodean Demon Hunter, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Demon Tracking: An Asmodean Demon Hunter may use Knowledge: (Planes) in place of Survival checks to track outsiders with the Chaotic and Evil subtypes. He also applies his favored enemy bonus to these checks.

Fiendish Eidolon: Asmodean Demon Hunter and Summoner levels stack for determining a character's Eidolon(s)’s abilities, Hit Dice, evolution pool, and so on and his Eidolon gains the [lawful] and [evil] subtypes.

Favored Enemy: Asmodean Demon Hunter levels stack with Ranger levels for determining the bonus applied to his Favored Enemy ability. He does not however gain additional favored enemies.

Any ideas?

Full bab, casting and eidolon progression is a bit much, also if you do not have many features to go with why not make it a 5 level class ?

You miss out on Summon Monster, abilities like Makers Call and Aspect, your Eidolon and summoning are alreddy at least a level behinds thanks to the qualifications. Additionally you lose acess to favored class bonus, which is VERY big for a summoner (they love their extra evolution points)

Plus it isn't like the casting is full caster casting, Summoner is low in slots and spells known and from a class that alreddy has medium BAB while Ranger (if you entered through Ranger 4/Summoner 1) is ranger casting.

And a dual progression class that lasts only 5 levels is against the point.

This would still be a major boost to any summoner. You take one level of ranger and then go to this at level six to get a full BAB and have your casting and eidolon only one level behind? Does that really seem balanced?

The whole point of playing a summoner is to have an eidolon that wrecks house; the summoner himself is basically just a buffer for his beast (unless you're going for a synthesist). This would put him only slightly behind your other BAB classes and buffs could fill that gap easily. On top of that, I don't know of any summoners who actually use the Summon Monster class feature unless they're desperate or are using the Master Summoner archetype, so you're not really losing much by giving it up.

I don't really understand why this is a Summoner/Ranger prestige class anyway; was it just something you wanted to see or do you think the classes can complement each other for this concept?

It might make more sense to take the ranger and make an archetype that focuses on a fiendish/devil animal companion. Probably not what you had in mind but it would be easy enough to balance by looking at the Antipaladin's Fiendish Boon ability and comparing it to Animal Companion.
