Barbarian Rage and Fatigue

Rules Questions

I have a question (don´t I always) about the topic subject. If a barbarian can rage let´s say for 6 rounds 1/day. In an encounter he rages and enemies are converted to hamburger in three (3) rds.

Does the barbarian lose the other three rds. of rage he could have used? In other words the rounds of rage have to be used consecutively, they cannot be 6 rounds in a day used at different times, correct?

With fatigue, if the above example is used, the barbarian would be fatigued for 6 rds (since he raged for 3 rds) and after the 6 rds he would be back to normal or does he needs the 8 hours rest to go from fatigue to normal.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You can use rounds as you please. You could have one long rage of 6 rounds, two 3 rounds rages, a 3 and three 1s, or any other combination you desire. There is no "1/day" on this ability in Pathfinder.

After a rage, you are only fatigued for double the rounds used (so a total of 6 rounds of fatigue, in this case). You do not need to rest 8 hours to recover from it.

Ahhh, I was recalling the D&D 3.5 rules in which they raged X/day as they leveled up. Thanks for clarifying.

The Barbarian in question would have 6 rounds of rage per day to spend as he or she pleases. You don't lose them until you spend all of them.

Killed the enemies in three rounds, gret. You have three more rounds to spend that day, if you don't spend them you get your 6 rounds the next day. They do not carry over form day to day.

A Barbarian recovers the fatigue from Raging after he rests for double the amount of time spent raging. That's it. No extra time is need to remove the fatigued status. He can still do things while he is fatigued but will suffer the penalties and those rounds will not count as resting.

If you find yourself out of rage round or inconveinced by fatigue you can use a rage spell to access your rage powers without having to spend rounds of rage.

Hope that helped.

Thanks, as I mentioned above I just congealed the 3.5 and pathfinder stuff and was not separating them. I actually like the idea of having x rds/day to use as you need.

I am confused about how rage and fatigue work. Specifically with regard to the Unchained Barbarian.

"While in a rage, a barbarian gains a +2 bonus on melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, thrown weapon damage rolls, and Will saving throws. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. She also gains 2 temporary hit points per Hit Die. These temporary hit points are lost first when a character takes damage, disappear when the rage ends, and are not replenished if the barbarian enters a rage again within 1 minute of her previous rage. While in a rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skill (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration (such as spellcasting).

A barbarian can end her rage as a free action, and is fatigued for 1 minute after a rage ends. A barbarian can't enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted, but can otherwise enter a rage multiple times per day. If a barbarian falls unconscious, her rage immediately ends."

This states first, that if you enter a rage again within 1 minute of a previous rage, the bonus HP are not replenished. Second, it states that a barbarian becomes fatigued for 1 minute after a rage ends. Third, it states that a barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted.

How exactly would a barbarian enter a new rage within 1 minute of having already raged, if a barbarian is fatigued for 1 minute after having raged, and cannot enter a new rage while fatigued?

Is this just a mistake in writing? Or am I missing something here?

There are ways to become immune to fatigue. And at 17th level, the unchained barbarian gains Tireless Rage, which removes the fatigue from the end of a rage.

So the wording in the first part doesn't come into play until lvl 17, when you can go in and out of rage without fatigue. Got it! Thanks! :)

There are also magical ways to remove fatigue.

There's also a magical belt that converts fatigue into 1d6 of nonlethal damage. And a friendly lessor restoration to remove the condition. And...

Actually, it still may come into play much sooner, For example, if your Paladin buddy took the Fatigue Mercy, then they can cure fatigue from you when they use Lay on Hands. Now your fatigue is gone and you can rage again, but if you do so you don't get the temporary hit points (as it's been too soon).

there's also the rage power that lets you enter a rage if you are fatigued, Roused Anger.
