Way of the Wicked Recruitment: Evil Crew looking for 1 or 2 replacements

Recruitment

101 to 150 of 263 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | next > last >>

Worthy Applicants,

His August Majesty, the dread Asmodeus (through his guise as King Mark), has spoke to me. He has declared your evil both pronounced and sufficient to his needs. He shall now weigh your infamy and select those best able to serve his infernal purposes...

Translation:

  • The Recruitment is CLOSED to all NEW applicants. If you waited this long to even throw in a note of interest... sorry, you are out of luck.
  • Those of you who have already entered characters are still free to amend your backstories, tweak builds, etc.
  • Those of you who have offered but not yet built your characters - please build them out so they can be fairly judged against the other applicants. At some point, Mark will announce you all have 24 hours to complete your builds. If your entry is incomplete at the end of that 24 hour period - your character will be removed from contention.

Also, Mark is guess-timating that the accepted character(s) may not be woven into the storyline for 2 weeks or possibly more. Sorry about that!

I am wondering if I should change my back story, if I am not joining the party until after the escape (see how confident I am that I will be picked). If it is assumed that I also escaped that is fine. If not my back story should only need some very minor tweaking.

My understanding is that the new character(s) are NOT escapees from the prison. You were not imprisoned in Brandescar. You can adjust your back-story to reflect that fact if you want. I think any back-story oddities like that can get worked out after the final selection is made... but you are welcome to change it now if you wish.

Oof! You are going to have to wait on Mark to answer that question, sorry!

@ Narkari - Thanks for the info!

Hey guys, we are truly NOT trying to string you along and delay the decision-making process... we just want to give everyone a fair shake at polishing their character submissions. There are still some folks who have tossed out concepts and we are waiting for them to deliver their builds.

Thanks for your patience.

Ok. I will get my build up tonight when I get home from work. Alertness will be my bonus feat. It should help with my sense motive and perception which is supported by my idea of being a former soldier and possible a party face. It will make sure I don't get conned by a con. I am assuming we will have to deal with other evil people later on, whose words can't be trusted.

I will update my back story to reflect how I will be coming in. I was confused by the link to the link to the story. I did some poking around and realized that it links to Mark's other WotW campaign.

Yah. That's my bad. I should have given y'all a heads up about that.

Hmm having though about it I suspect the character I initally had in mind may not be very suitable for this campaign So I would like to respectfully bow out.

@Cain
No problem. I was just really confused. I was trying to figure out how many people had left.

Sorry to hear that... I was looking forward to seeing your build.

I'm actually also away for the weekend (typing this on my phone at a rest stop). Updated my alias with some extra info. Still missing a couple feats and equipment. I'll try to update some more Monday.

You folks have a blast! Thanks, again.

Background story and character stats have been filled out, except for final equipment (waiting for approval on the above listed magic item)

Fargo's updated back story is up and part of his profile.

We are meeting the current players after they escape from prison right?

Correct.

I've tweaked my backstory somewhat to give Fitch more nuance and a more focused motivation.

Suddenly I find myself way more invested in this guy and really want him to succeed in his quest for vengeance :)

Still need to fill in some crunch, but should have it all there shortly.

Is this a chance meeting or a planned meeting?

Mr. Swagger wrote:

We don't know.

Looking through the applicants, found the following missing character sheets or fleshed out concepts...

Tirion - working up a new build - Bard/Ranger
Tanis Newlun - a rogue?
Cirnos Duval - intending on applying your anti-paladin character or merely asking a question?

Please check in and let us know your intent. If we hear nothing by Monday morning, we'll take your silence as a dropout.

Almost there with the character sheet, will try to put together the background later today. My sone has a birthday party today, so I am a little behind on getting this done.

Definitely a Bard/Ranger.

Happy b-day to your son! As long as we know your entry is coming, that is fine.

Yeah well having given it some thought I'm not sure a Gnome with Pyro tendancies would work to well in a group enviroment. (Also Idea would probably work better as a sorceror something I'm not sure you are looking for.)

I have to change my background story to account for an additional crime, but after that I should be done.

Fargo's and my own profile have been updated with back story, personality, and appearance. I might need to have Fargo change one of his traits, because he was never arrested for his crimes. If the king feels it should be done, it shall be done. If not, Fargo's traits stand as they are.

I have now read the entirety of both the gameplay and discussion threads. I am even more enthusiastic about this campaign. If I could, I would bribe my way in with cookies.

I apologize for the delay - here is the revamped Xrezth - Bard(Animal Speaker)/Ranger. After playing with the Arcane Duelist, I just could not give up all the performance skills.

I have not finished equipment and might play with the feats which I have not entirely settled on.

HP: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

This is Tirion's submission so that there is no confusion.

Here are the modified answers the questions posed by Price and KMV.

Price Questions:

1-ish - How do you intend to play your character? You can use a few words to describe him or her or give us a short paragraph.

Xrezth is dark and driven. Her goal is to cause pain to those who currently control the land, especially those who were responsible for the death of her father, the destruction of her family, and the theft of her noble heritage. She does not desire to harm others and is not self centered as most evil characters are likely to be. She is goal driven, and does not care in the least the means that are necessary. While she pays homage to Asmodeus as the arch-devil, her true allegiance is to the Whore Queen Eiseth which feeds Xrezth’s need for revenge. She also has found solace from the words of Doloras which has enabled her to separate her outgoing personality from the cold quiet detachment necessary to spread the power of the Infernals by removing those in the way, in cold blood if necessary.

I would expect Xrezth to work with the group, as long as she is not crossed, she will work with the team. Her goals are noble, if you can consider the genocide of the good nobility and the restoration of her family together with Lord Asmodeus to be noble. After all, nobility is all in the eye of the beholder. While her goals are the return of Infernal rule and the restoration of her family as a power in the land, she knows that she cannot accomplish these goals alone. As such, she has trained and worked with others in the underworld for several years, even assisting Price and Cain on one or more missions.

Regarding Asmodeus assuming control of the land, she has no qualms with this after all, he is her mistresses overlord. In addition, she revels in the thought of this as the resulting pain and suffering that will be caused to those currently in power would be unfathomable - it will undoubtedly bring a cold smile to her lips.

As far as building the character, I expect to principally focus on levels of Bard, but will likely take either 2 or 6 levels of Ranger (depends on the Feats I wish to gain. 2 levels of rogue are also a possibility for the Evasion which will likely be important. I have not decided on all levels and feats at this point, but a dip into Eldrich Heritage in the Orc Bloodline (or Infernal) is a possibility.

2-ish - Have you ever played in an Evil campaign before? If 'yes', how did it go?
Yes, I am currently in TaxkXT’s assassins campaign. It is going well. As we are not a lawful bunch with common (Asmodean) goals, there has been conflict, but due to certain potentially adverse consequences, the party has learned to work together. I am also just starting a S&S campaign, but that is only in its infancy and the party has not really bonded yet as we have only been playing about 3 weeks and the beginning of the campaign is mostly being forced into laboring on a ship by ourselves.

3-ish - Why are you interested in this game in particular?
I find the idea for this campaign intriguing. Working toward the overthrow of a good government is so counter to my personal beliefs and the general morals of society make this type of campaign very enjoyable to play. As one of the few published campaigns with a true option for evil characters, I have jumped at every chance to be asked to join one of the WoW campaigns.

DM KMV Questions:

1) Tell me who you are. Race/class at a minimum, but more is always better. How you came about the path of evil helps.

Mostly in my background. Xrezth was born to a woodsman far from the capitol. As she grew, she learned that her father was in fact the last surviving member of a noble house that had been destroyed for devil worshipping. She was raised as a woodsman(ranger). As her mother did not know of Xrezth’s father’s background, she was unaware of his ties to the destroyed noble family, but one day she found items showing that he was a devil worshipper. Being a goodie goodie, she informed the authorities resulting in Xrezth and her father fleeing their home and her father eventually being caught and drawn and quartered. After seeing him killed, she fled and began to discover her love for entertainment and learning. Eventually gaining a level as a Bard. Due to her connections with nature, she spent much time in the forest while discovering herself after her father’s killing (murder?). Thus, her bard abilities developed a more nature oriented nature. Bard(animal speaker archetype).

Xrezth is a follower of the Infernal powers, particularly the Whore Queens Dolores and Eiseth.

2) What crime did you commit, and how did you get caught?
Xrezth was assisting a group of devil worshippers and other evil doers in the kidnapping of the youngest daughter of the king. The objective was to create a diversion and draw the King’s guards away from the Cathedral which was to be desecrated that night (this being done by Price’s group). Unfortunately as with Price’s group, someone ratted out the raid. She was caught and sentenced to death by drawing and quartering for High Treason. Xrezth used her ability to cast Charm Person (the guards had mistaken her for a normal fighter) to escape when a prison break and uprising occurred elsewhere in the prison. (I am assuming something like this, I have not had the time to read the actual gameplay thread yet and was trying to make a story that would fit.)

3) What do you look like?

With pale skin and nearly black hair. Xrezth stands out from the crowd. She is of slightly above average height. Her face is either pure emotion when she is entertaining a crowd, which she is quite good at, or emotionless when working the will of her dark Lord.

4) Why do you want revenge against Talingarde?
They killed her family. They murdered her father. And they barred the worship of her Lord. She will see that her family is restored to its former glory, even though she is the only one left. And this can only be accomplished if the swine currently in power are removed. She wishes to have her noble house restored and to see that her Lord may be worshipped freely, as is done in the great nation of Cheliax.

5) Anything else you feel like saying.

If there is anything that is needed to make this character fit better into the campaign, please let me know. I believe that she will be quite capable working with other's having the same goals. Furthermore, as a LE with NE tendencies, she will be able to circumvent the rules when necessary to assure that the will of her Lords is done, and that of the rule of the overlord Asmodeus will be successfully imposed upon this land.

I hope this is everything that is needed. It is late here and I cannot even read what I am typing any more.

revised background:

The story is told through my characters eyes as he believes they happened, and the actual events may differ.
Introductions are in order. My name is Ka'sar which roughly translates to seeker of the dragons. No, I am no dragon hunter, but I often found myself in trouble in my younger days so people often joked that I was seeking the dragon. Well considering my current situation I guess I am in trouble now.

If you are reading this you are curious as to how I came to be in this predicament. I would like to start from the beginning because my childhood is where this all began. I grew up poor. I was an only child, whose parents barely made enough money to send me to school. I was well liked, and I was a good student, but I never liked being a member of the lower caste. Yes I said caste. You see there are those who are meant to rule, those who are enforce the rules, and those that are ruled. I had no desire to be in that 3rd category. Luckily I was able to make friends with a young human male named Rythor who had grown tired of "being kept captive", as he called it by his overbearing father. His words, not mine. When I went on my mini adventures pretending to be a criminal, while committing real but petty crimes such as stealing loaves of bread, and coins he was right there with me. I was only a young lad of about 10 at the time, and the importance of that friendship would not be realized until much later. It was however these adventures that forged our friendship.

Later on as people are apt to do we grew out of such things. People are less forgiving of you when you get older, and it really was not worth the trouble. I got a job at a the local library after graduating from school. The pay was not bad, but for me I did it because I got free access to books, and I would be allowed to come in early, and stay late. The topics of history, and the planes was always intriguing to me. I heard enough about Iomadea, that the topic would start to irritate me. Iomedae, Iomedae, Iomedae, if I never heard the name again I would be all to happy. Oh yes, back to the topic at hand. After about 2 years at the library I got promoted. I now had keys to the library, and I often spent as much time there as I did at home. My father was so proud. I can still hear his voice. "Oh son you have done so well.....". I drowned him out after that because I knew he was saying that should be my career. I was just as capable, if not more so than many people born into a more advantageous position, and the thought of being a librarian, catering to the common folk annoyed me to no end. I had to find a way out.
Well here is where my friendship with Rythor becomes a stepping stone. He enlisted as a member of the army. Within two years he was a sergeant, and a banquet was held at his father's residence in honor of the promotion. As a childhood friend I was invited. I often wonder how that would have went had he known his son and I were once little hoodlums. Well anyway, I got to talking to the old man about life and other topics. He asked why a capable man such as myself did not join the military. It paid better than my current job, and I could gain some manner of prestige if I did well. After thinking on it I went to visit him again, and after much talking, and a few drinks he said he could get me in his son's unit by pulling some strings. All I had to do was pass the training course. I agreed and graduated 3rd in my class overall.
I was further trained as a medic since I was to have a specialty as well, which for some reason included the study of religion. I did get to study less acceptable religions as well however, so that I may know the enemy. That led to me becoming acquainted with the denizens of Hell. I did not look badly upon the place as other did. It was a place where one could rise and fall by his own merit, as long as he could avoid being stabbed in the back that is, but since being vigilant is often a requirement for success I figured it was not all that bad.
We now get to fast forward two more years. My buddy Rythor is getting promoted again. He is about to pick up the rank of lieutenant, and guess who they chose to step into his old sergeant position? Me. The jealousy withing the unit was more powerful than anything I had ever felt. While I did receive perks from bring Rythor's friend I did out perform everyone in the group in most task. I was never late, never got into trouble. I was basically a model soldier. Well I could have gotten better with my actual combat skills, but I was a medic. Fighting is not my focus. It seems others made it their focus to correct what was wrong.
We had a training mission that involved us staying out in the field. On the way home we were ambushed. Rythor was the first to fall. Our assailants were masked so other than the ones we killed there was no clue. Well almost no clue. As the assailant were leaving one of them shouted "Let's see if you can help Rythor as much as he has helped you." I knew right then what had happened.
Over the next few days I mourned heavily. For the first time in my life I lost someone who was close to me. As much as it hurt me Rythor's father was affected even more so. He seemingly lost the will to live, and died about 3 months later. To add insult to injury I was demoted for not protecting my commanding officer. After many months of investigations those involved, even though I am sure it was not all of them were tried and convicted. My rank was not returned however. It seems that the letter of the law had been manipulated, and manipulated well. Allowing a commander to fall is a serious offense, even when it is not your fault.

It goes without saying that I became a bitter individual. I found out who had caused the death of my friend by investigating on my own. I should not have confronted him in the manner that I did, but my anger got the better of me. Bhevon Dumar the man who arranged for my friend's murder was just out one night. He had been drinking, and I had also. It seems he had slipped away from whoever he was out with. I accused him of being involved with the murder. He not only admitted to the crime, but he taunted me, claiming I was no real soldier, and “that is the result of me taking shortcuts”. I told him that I would kill him if he did not admit to his crime. He continued to mock me, and said that unlike my friend I was not enough of a threat to require outside help. I drew my dagger and challenged him to a duel. Without hesitation he accepted, and within seconds he was dead. Had it not been for a man stopping by to use the alley as a bathroom I would have gotten away with it.

I tried to claim self-defense, but the fact that his family was rich, and could afford better attorneys, not to mention their political influence did not bode well for me. The trial if you want to call it that was a foregone conclusion, and I knew it. Most likely I would die, and as much as I tried to face the thought with courage I could not accept it. I lost my temper in the courtroom, and I cursed the nation, everyone it, and worst of all, at least to the judge I cursed Iomedae. I spoke of terrible things and wished them upon everyone in the courtroom. In return I was cursed, really cursed. Every time I tried to speak my words came out garbled so that I may never utter such things again.
The longer I sat in my cell the more my hatred grew. I would do anything to gain vengeance not just against Bhevon Dumar, but against this corrupt nation. It seemed as though my thoughts were heard. A strange creature appeared in my cell. It offered me the chance to become powerful enough to possibly escape. I would only have to help it at a future date. I knew the creature was a devil of some sort, and deals rarely ended in one's favor when dealing with them. Seeing my alternative, and my desire to bring the entire nation down I readily agreed anyway. I didn't really have much to lose. In return for my agreement to grant some unknown favor the curse was partially removed, and divine powers were granted to me.

As I was waiting to be transferred to a more secure location a small fight broke out between the guards and some prisoners. I ended up helping the guards, even healing those that I could. None of the prisoners survived however. During the ride to the prison I told them my story about “what really” happened. They were familiar enough with the case to notice some inconsistencies, and wondered why Bhevon had never been arrested. Eventually they began to feel like I was not a bad guy after all, and that things would be better for me if I “escaped”.

Appearance: Ka'sar is about 6'3 feet tall 230 pounds. He has dark skin, and black curly hair with brown eyes. He is considered to be somewhat attractive to most females. Across his right eyebrow is a permanent scar from the attack that killed Rythor.
Personality: He is devious, manipulative, and proud, and that was before Rythor was killed. He does however believe in a system of order and loyalty. He is not quick to anger, but when angered he does hold grudges. He holds those in high esteem who are willing to do the work that is needed in order to excel, and he looks down on those who are lazy, but an occasional shortcut here and there is fine. He looks upon Iaozrael the Archduke as his source of inspiration.

Crimes :He has spoken out against the church in public, and dueling to the death. I am happy with whatever crime you choose to give the most weight to.

addendum:
Ka'sar is not out to rule the world or a nation, not that he won't take it if the chance opens up, but he wants a decent position with nice perks. His goal before his friend's death was to get to a decent position in the 2nd caste* or maybe even a low position in the high caste*.Now these are still his goals, but they are now on the backburner.

In his eyes this corrupt nation and its leaders have taken everything he has worked for out of jealousy, and spite, and then punished him for it. He is a man on a mission. He is not so filled with rage that he will make bad decisions. He knows his opponents are wily. After all they have made him into a scapegoat for crimes that are not even his fault.

Caste 1: This can be anyone in a position to make the rules. This commonly includes governors and leaders of nations. You get to make the rules, and you don't normally have to get your hands dirty to make sure they get enforced. You normally get the best of everything with little physical danger to yourself. Even if the people decide to rally against you the chances of you being wealthy are high so you can just leave. You may even be able to setup somewhere else if you actually feel like trying to again.

Caste 2: These are normally the enforcers of the rules. It is best to be in a leadership in this caste because you don't really get blamed too much when unpopular laws are passed. You get to wield your power when needed, and if you can get setup well you live a luxurious life. Yeah you might be in danger at times when ordered to fight, but anything worth having is worth fighting for.

Caste 3: These are the common folk, and unless you have connections or have a power base such as being a lawyer or owning a type of business which makes you influential to anyone in the first 2 caste you are pretty much at their mercy. More than likely you are left to your own devices, but why take the chance, and why accept such a station if you can do better.

I have made some adjustments to my character. Still Bard(Animal Speaker)/Ranger, but is now focused on Weapon & Shield fighting style. Will need to discuss the free non-combat feat with KMV if chosen. Currently it is bonus feats.

Altered the arrangement of my stats to put a 15 in Dex allowing for the Two Weapon Fighting feat.

All that was changed were the stats and the feats. Story is still the same. With the changes I made, I do not think that it will need any tweaking.

Seems like some of us are really gunning for this.

You guys, look over there.

Bite 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Claw1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Claw1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

I was rereading the original recruitment thread and I saw we were supposed to pick a bonus non combat feat. If this is still the case, I pick Fleet. If this is the case, I will integrate it in to my build later.

Fargo Drinog wrote:

Well it's not like any of us would sacrifice the competition to Dagon now is it?

*shifty eyes*

And I didn't catch the extra feat either. Cool.

I managed to catch it, gave myself the Persuasive Feat.... Nice. Bluff +11, Intimidate +11, Diplomacy +11... (from racial bonus, traits, and feats)

It seems like I need to be here more to promote myself too. :P Hello everyone.

Hey guys. We're still here. Just having some off-line discussions. We appreciate your patience. Decision by committee is never a quick thing.

Also just want to drop a line that I'm still interested...

:) No worries. Thanks for for the consideration.

Oh I know. I have noticed that a lot of games slow down over the weekend anyway.

Please guys, please, I want to know, you need to decide, I have to know now. What do you want me to do so you can tell me now.

You will make your decision before my patience is entirely gone or you will regret it. Briefly. And I expect it will be the proper decision.

Yeah no pressure guys. You still have a ways before whoever is chosen need to be a part of the game anyway.

Seeing the strange half-elf who occasionally changes into an alien, Xrezth waits until he is not paying attention, and then casually places the point of her pick between C-3 and C-4 on his neck.

Surely one that strange was likely the mole, or was one unstable enough to become a mole.

"I am charismatic as well as perceptive. I can fight. My allies can depend on me to make them better and heal their wounds. I am the obvious choice. I am sure the rest of you are competing for the 2nd spot. There is no shame in that though, as long as you are chosen."

Really there is only one fair way to decide this.

Cage Match to the Death!!

Steepling her fingers in front of her chest,
Patience is a virtue, when awaiting the right moment for revenge. Good things come to those who wait until the proper time to take them."

Did the equivalent of that just one month prior.

Didn't turn out so well for Catelyn.

Dr. Faust scribbles in his notebook as he dictates to himself,
