What's the difference between Pathfinder Core Rulebook Lite and full?

Paizo Products

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I can see that the Lite files are smaller in file size but I tried comparing the beginning contents from Getting Started and Combat and I don't see any differences besides the color of the background.

Are there any differences?

My Kindle won't load the full versions of some of the chapters because the file size is too large. Fortunately, it loads all of the Lite chapters just fine.

I just want to make sure I'm not losing any important content because I'm using the Lite version instead of the full version.

Thanks

Color of the background. The content is the same.

The only difference I see is a washed-out quality to the colors.

The lite version is only optimized for tablets and such. So, the file size is smaller and it is probably less pretty in some way but the information is intact.

I noticed that the full versions got updated, and in some cases the May 2012 PDF file is much larger than the previous version. If there was a memo on what the changes were, I didn't get it. Please enlighten?

P.S. I found a typo in the Core Rulebook which survived the May 2012 update. In the bookmarks, under Spell Descriptions and the P spells, the bookmark for Prayer is in the right place alphabetically for the spell, but is spelled "Player". Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure they only "updated" the pdfs so that those that had already purchased them would get the notice of the new Lite versions.

I always get a kick out of Player when I look up Prayer... :) I don't know why, but I do.

You can find more information about Lite PDFs in this thread. Essentially, the Lite versions have alternate backgrounds and export options that make them more usable on lower end machines, tablets and phone.

Also, the spell "Nondetection" is missing from the bookmarks. The PDF stops at "Nightmare" and skips right to the "O"'s.
