I found a great way to store the pawns

These business cards holder sheets worked great and they were cheap:

Basically you can fit 3 medium sized pawns in one business card slot and one large sized monster will fit in sideways. I know a few people were asking for good ways to store these and I think this works great. I keep the PCs separate and have the monsters alphabetized to easily find them. I imagine any business card holder sheet would work, but I have only tried the one linked.

I have all my Beginner Box pawns in 6 sheets, but if I wanted to I could probably get it down to 3 or 4 sheets by combining monsters in the same business card sleeve. I like to keep my monsters separated for whatever reason.

I took a picture of the tokens in a couple of the sheets in case anyone wanted to take a look. You can see the large creatures fit and the three Dire Rats fit in one business card slot. Enjoy.

I like it. I might have to check these out. I was thinking trading card sleeves, while bigger, there would be fewer slots per page. I like this idea better. Thanks for sharing.

Me likey! I now have an irrational desire to buy the Bestiary Box and RotRL Box and alphabatize all the pawns in a binder...

Are the slots "taut"? If you have 3 pawns side by side, do they shuffle around and overlap each other when you turn a page?

It is very taut, but I imagine this might change if you buy a different brand. While I could have some overlap, it does take some work to make them overlap. I doubt it would overlap on its own. I can gently shake the sheets and the pawns don't slide around. If I really shake the sheets, the pawns can slide out so they are not that taut. Not really sure how to describe the tautness of the sheets better.

Sounds good enough for me. Thanks.

I think this is a great idea, thanks. Efficient storage is one of the real problems with using pawns and it's only going to get worse as more sets come out. This looks like a terrific solution.

I was thinking about it last night and when the Beastiary box comes out you could store the pawns in the same sleeve as the Monster Knowledge cards from 4 Winds. I don't have the Monster Knowledge cards, but if they print out on business cards they should fit nicely into the sheets. There should be enough room in the sleeves to store these too because the are not that taut. That way when you pull out the pawn you can grab the Monster Knowledge card at the same time. It just seems like a great pairing. Just food for thought.

Great idea. I'll have to go out and get a business card holder for these now.

Super good idea, especially with the Monster Knowledge cards idea. Would make a DMs job easier.

And, what is likely a noob question, some folks responded with "dotted" ...um what does that mean please?

When you post something in a thread, you get a dot beside that thread that tells you posted there.

So, those who post "dot" are saying that they found the thread important enought that they want to keep track of it, but didn't have anything to add. So now they have a "dot" beside the thread's name to bring it to their attention.

A less intrusive way to do that would be to favorite the post; it then appears in your list of favorited posts, and doesn't bug anybody else.

That doesn't really help you know when someone else has posted to that thread, though.

The better solution for that is RSS feeds—the orange icon on the upper right of each thread.

Well, I think some people like to say "Dotted" in order to express their appreciation for the thread, and to let the OP know that they like it.

I store my pawns in the same cardboard lattice they came in! In a c;ear plastic slipcase, it works perfectly.

FYI, I've done the math and calculated the contents of the Bestiary Box:

56 small pawns
150 medium pawns
95 large pawns
25 huge pawns

I'm assuming that Small pawns are the same size as Medium pawns, since they both take up one square. Also, the large pawns are 2" and the huge pawns are 3".

According to the OP, 3 medium pawns fit in each slot, and the large pawns each take up a slot.

That comes up to 189 slots -- so you'll need 2 packages of the product linked in the OP, in order to accommodate the Bestiary Box.

If you want to store the 80+ pawns from the Beginner Box as well, you'll want a 3rd package.

And you'll probably want a 4x5 or if you can find them 3x5 photo pages for the huge figures. I've seen some that have 4 3.5x5 pockets, but can't tell if they would slide out easily or not.

Liberty's Edge

I'm going to buy the "Office Depot" brand ones. The 25 sheet pack might be enough to hold the entire Bestiary and Beginner Box together.

Oh, wow, I was going to ignore the pawns in favor of scouring the 'net for the D&D miniatures I wanted until I saw the mention of the Bestiary Box above. That's really cool, I must have one. :)

The Office Depot Super Heavy Weight sheet protectors hold a full sheet of pawns nicely, and are rigid enough to provide a little extra support.

Liberty's Edge

Great idea! Will have to do this myself.

Liberty's Edge

The Office Depot sheets work good. In fact the photo size ones (3.5x5 I think) work perfectly for the huge monsters!

The only ones I have problem with are the small monsters. They are too small which causes them to slide of out of the pages too easily. I might need to get something else to store those in.

Liberty's Edge

I just ordered two boxes (20 sheets) for my Bestiary Box. Thanks for the tip.

I use the full-size sheet protectors, and use the original cardboard lattice to keep the pawns separated (just like S'mon). But I use those sheet protectors for a lot of other gaming-related things, too - my character sheets go in them (one for the principal character sheet, one or two for all the PFS chronicles, one for the special abilities page, and perhaps one for a spell list, animal companion, etc.). Then all those go into a swing-clip report cover (I trim off the three-hole binder flap from the sheet protector). I also use report covers for the printouts of the PFS scenarios if I'm judging, sheet protectors for any maps, etc., I pass around the table (a map of Absalom for First Steps, perhaps a map of Varisia or the Inner Sea region, ...). I seem to stop by Office Depot/Office Max/Staples almost every week to pick up something else (case files for holding scenarios or flip mats, index cards for initiative, wet/dry erase markers for maps, and Really Useful Boxes for almost everything).

Liberty's Edge

For storing the small pawns, I recommend putting a regular size creature along side them by the edge of the opening. Within reason it seems this is enough to keep the small ones in.

I've got my beginner box and Bestiary Box stored in a 3" binder. I'm assuming that after Rise of the Runelords, Skull & Shackles, and NPC Box that you will need at least 2 more 3" binders to store all of the sheets.

Just imagine trying to store that many minis. :-)

Scarab Sages

I like ultrapro products to store my cardboard things... I know they can be expensive but they are PVC free and UV filtering products.

Check out, this, this, this and this.

Just a revision on what I just wrote above: the sheets do not fit the huge pawns (the business card slots are loaded from the side, and the Large pawns just barely fit in sideways). So yeah you'll need a different product to store the Huge minis. For now I'll put them in a Ziploc bag...

But if someone has found a way to store the Huge pawns and has actually tried it out, please keep us informed. :)

For the Huge Pawns, I used 4x6 picture sleeves from OfficeMax...I think (I can never remember if it's max or depot). Each page holds four pawns, two per slot. They load from the top and aren't very snug (so don't hold it upside down), but it does work.

PICTURE HERE

The small pawns are smaller than the medium pawns and tend to slide around a bit, but again, it still works.

I keep mine in plastic baggies inside the bestiary box. I also combined all the pawns from the Beginner Box as well. Each bag is sorted and labeled with the creature type. Only the humanoids and outsiders took up more than 1 bag. Outsiders ended up being sorted into elemental, demon/devil, angel/azata/archon, and the rest in a 4th baggie. Humanoids were divided into Core races and everything else baggies.

By the way, to Paizonians...

I think it would be a good product idea to release something along the lines of what we're looking for in this thread. There currently is no single product that stores the Medium and the Huge pawns. The product linked to in the OP is perfect for Medium pawns, but the Small pawns shift around. And the Large pawns have to be positioned sideways.

Pages that are specially sized to accommodate various pawns would reduce our needing to improvise among different products from other companies. Also, when a pawn is behind other pawns inside a pocket, we have to remove the other pawns before we can get to it. And having "Paizo Pages" can be an incentive to buy future pawn collections as they come out, to fill in any leftover pages.

It would be great, too, if the pages were opaque and allowed us to load both sides. Right now, we can only load one side, and when you turn a page you see a set of pawns to your left that you've already seen and you can't access. If there were some background art on the pages, that would make it an irresistible purchase for me.

Take my money!

Sincerely yours,
The Rot Grub

I whole-heartedly agree with this sentiment. I've been hoping Paizo was going to release some sort of custom storage since I found out about the pawns. I've been looking for a slide holder solution or something similar, but the binder sleeves would definitely increase visibility. I do wish there was some custom solution that would exactly fit the pawns though.

Shadow Lodge

They could easily sell them by size. Each made with pockets that fit the correct size pawn.

Small pages
Medium pages
Large Pages
Huge pages

Say 5 sheets to a package. Be great if they 1) fit snug and/or 2) had a slight flap at the top to keep them from falling out.

Oh good idea. I must do this.

Thank you!

I've been trying to think of a way to store the pawns. Trying to dig through a box looking for the right ones is a serious pain.

I fit the contents of the Beginner Box and the Bestiary Box into the following:

Two sheets of 2x2 inch "coin holder" slots (for the smalls) (from eBay).

20 sheets of the Business Card sheets mentioned in the first post, for the medium and large ones. 30 might have been better, as I had to combine 2 or 3 to a slot for the medium figures.

The huge figures went in some 2-panel (4" x 6") photo pages (from eBay), which were turned into 4-panel pages by the addition of some staples right down the middle.

The whole thing fits, barely, in a 1.5" 3-ring binder, but I ended up putting them in two binders so they weren't so squeezed.

Shadow Lodge

Just checked, and if you get the 42 pocket coin holder pages, the smalls will fit almost perfectly as the pockets are 28mm X 32mm and the small pawns are smaller than that. Nice find those.

The smalls fit into the "excess" slots on the 4x6" picture sheets that the huge pawns use. Three per slot, 4 slots per sheet.

I wasn't satisfied with the sideways solution for the larges, nor the sliding of the smalls. I searched for a better solution and I think I've found an adequate solution for both.

I found 2" slide sheets that hold 20 slides per page.

2" slide pages on amazon

I used these 3x5 photo sheets for the huges.

3x5 photo pages on amazon

I used the previously mentioned business card pages for the mediums.

business card pages on amazon

Here is an album of my results. I've included a picture of the smalls, larges, larges back view, and huges.

Bestiary Box Storage Album

This worked out great for both the smalls which fit 2 in side by side in each slot and larges. The larges do poke out of the top just a bit which actually makes them even easier access. The one drawback that I see is that the names are obscured when you are viewing them from the front. If you look at the back picture, however, you can read all the names, thanks to the brilliance of double sided printing provided by Paizo. The slide pages also cut the number pages needed for larges in half since they hold 20 per page instead of 10.

The huges I think were already posted, but I included them anyway. The mediums look just like the previous posts, so I didn't repeat that one.

Liberty's Edge

Very nice!

I did not think of the slide sheets and I have some too. I am glad you pinted these out Anthony. Great idea.

Grand Lodge

Anthony, I wasn't satisfied with the originally proposed solution either. I went to Office Depot in hopes for finding something that works better for me, but left empty handed. I appreciate you doing the research into this because it looks just about perfect.

Did anyone try baseball card sleeves for the Large pawns?
