That was an awesome food fight! \m/

I am in complete agreement. That was wild and funny.

I've recently been watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, pretty cool, I hope at some point I can get the opportunity to read the manga as well.

Brotherhood is the version of FMA that I recommend to my friends. I liked the original Fullmetal. I love Brotherhood. Mainly because it stuck mostly to the manga (unlike the original anime, which totally diverged after a certain point). But, with that said, of the FMA movies, I still prefer Conqueror of Shamballa over The Sacred Star of Milos. In this instance, the divergent nature of the original series pays off as far as the movie is concerned. Sacred Star was good, but the events that take place just don't fit within the overall story arc of Brotherhood, and that ruined an otherwise good movie for me.

I didn't get into FMA until I tried Brotherhood. The original hits one of my big triggers; it's...much...too...slooooooow. Brotherhood isn't one of my all-time favorites either, but it's fun, and it moves along at a steady clip. Hopefully netflix will add season 5+ at some point so I can finish the series!

(Or maybe it'll eventually get out from behind crunchyroll's paywall.)

I couldn't STAND FMA before Brotherhood. Not one bit.

Someone asked me if I'd seen it and I gave a full body shudder, to which they response was "No, it's very different, give it three episodes."

I now own every available dvd set of the show, because 1, screw paywalls, and 2, I don't have to wait for Netflix to get the newer stuff in order to show it to my friends who also hated the original FMA. It's worked well so far. :)

You can watch the whole Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood series at Animefreaktv if you like, both subbed and dubbed.

edit: (for the paranoid) It's got some popups and advertisements but I've never gotten a virus there. Also one of my friends says the videos buffer alot for her there but I've never had any problems.

Watching "Appleseed Alpha" and wondering:

Where is it written that every Appleseed movie must involve a Gun Spider going rampant and having to be blown up as the finale? I mean, seriously and literally, every Appleseed movie to date has had this as the wrap-up of the film.

Open on examination of Deunan and Briareos' relationship. Extoll virtues of Hecatonchires Cyborg model.

(Optional: Include history as mercenaries and prior collusion with Two Horns cyborg.)

Talk about and/or go to Olympus.

Learn about Bioroids.

SURPRISE GUN SPIDER TERROR MARCH!

Blow up enormous Death Mecha and save the day.

Every. Damn. Time.

I absolutely love Appleseed. I own every databook, all the available volumes of manga (twice over!), and I spent months building Landmates in Roadstriker 2 (and later, Mekton Zeta) and trying to capture that post-apocalyptic "Utopia By Force" feel that permeates the setting. I have almost all the Intron Depots, I own two copies of Black Magic and Orion, and I once stood in line for THREE HOURS to meet Shirow Sensei.

But seriously.

Gun Spiders everywhere.

Get a new plot, guys.

The funny thing about Appleseed... every time I try to watch it I fall asleep. I have no idea why, it's not like the show is boring. I get the same effect from Buckaroo Banzai those shows are a true cure for my insomnia, kind of freaky.

:p
@ Blayde

One of these days I will buy a case of energy drinks and watch a marathon of Appleseed kicked off with Buckaroo Bonzai. And if I still fall asleep I will cry...

Aranna, I am so very sad for your difficulties, and I hope you come to discover the joy and happiness that comes from Carl Lumbly, Jeff Goldblum, Peter Weller, and all the rest doing their Cross Dimensional Good Guy routine.

Yeah I know I am weird.

Silver Crusade

Just finished watching the 6th episode of Akame ga Kill! and all I have to say is WOW! (I had another word but decorum dictates that I not use it here on the forums). I knew the show was violent going in, and it has not disappointed me in that regard, but today's episode ramped it up a bit.

The Teigu, which translates to Imperial Arms, are mysterious and extremely powerful relics that exist in the world of Akame Ga Kill! They are rare, and only the strongest of warriors are able to wield them. And though they usually look like weapons or equipment, some actually look like living creatures. But they all have one thing in common: a fight between Teigu wielders is guaranteed to end in death for one of them.

That last point was driven home in today's episode. I was actually saddened to see it happen, because the character in question was one that I liked. Yes, I knew it was coming, and yes, the character died hard. But was it something that I was emotionally prepared for?

No... I wasn't.

I'm not one to go bawling when a character dies. In fact, before this, I could count the number of times I've teared up during an anime on one hand. Today's episode takes that number to six.

Yeah...that episode is the one that says, "Oh by the way don't get attached to any character because any of them can die. "

And going by this I wouldn't be surprised if the "heros" team was basically whittled down to nothing by the end of the show/series.

Still a really well executed episode.

EDIT: No pun intended.....

Silver Crusade

Yeah, I can't wait to see the fall-out from our hero's gain (and loss) plays out over the next episodes. They still hadn't recovered from the one death... And now the sister could be showing up as well?

Akame ga Kill just got even more interesting.

Lol, I can relate. My younger brother likes a lot of anime. i have tried to watch some with him when I go visit but all of the high school drama ones put me to sleep.

Funny enough, he found one that I really like. I am not sure why I find "Fairy Tail" to be so funny but I do. I am slowly working my way through the mountain of episodes. I have not enjoyed an anime this much since "Ghost in the Shell".

I keep wanting to watch/read Fairy Tale because I watched and read Rave Master and really enjoyed it. But for some reason, I'm leery to do so.

Fairy Tail has some goofy, flawed characters that do some very crazy antics. Maybe the characters flawed nature is why I like them so much. Every character has some serious flaws but they are still friends despite knowing each others flaws.

Silver Crusade

I was a little leery of Fairy Tail too in the beginning. And the first three episodes did little to ease my ill feelings. However, when Erza Scarlet appeared in episode 4, she somehow managed to put alot of my misgivings at ease. And though the show still does have its silly moments, given how serious some of the arcs get, you appreciate them all the more when they happen.

Now I can't imagine ever missing the show.

Well, I read the Manga up until the point the guy and girl have to break into a mansion to get a book or something. I dunno, maybe I should watch the anime before reading it?

How different is the anime from the manga?

Silver Crusade

I have a friend who follows the manga... and pretty much the anime doesn't deviate a whole lot from it. There are arcs in the anime that aren't in the manga (usually because the series has caught up to where the manga is), but from what I understand those arcs are actually referenced from time to time in the manga so they're not invalidated.

What you're talking about takes place during the third and fourth episodes of the anime. I don't have a frame of reference in regards to the manga when that happens, so I couldn't tell you. And by the end of the fourth episode, Erza shows up. Which was good, because Lucy grated on my nerves something fierce during that time. Not so much now, because she actually undergoes growth over the course of the series.

And that's actually the best part of the series. Watching the characters undergo these changes which exposes their flaws, then having to face up to them, then overcome them. Like Natsu... he experiences something that I thought I would never see... and it's atypical given the type of protagonist he is, because most people wouldn't see it as a flaw. But when it happened, the moment made me appreciate the show just that much more:

Spoiler:

Natsu experiences fear for the first time. And it's not at the hands of an enemy, either. One of the most powerful members of the guild faces him as part of Natsu's test to become an S-class wizard. The test wasn't whether or not Natsu could beat him (because he couldn't). The true test was in seeing how he dealt with that kind of situation.

In the end, you'll decide whether or not the show is to your liking. I hope you watch it and enjoy it as much as I do. I've come to see it as a long-running table top campaign in someone's homebrew setting with a very interesting take on how magic works (which was what drew me to the series in the first place, based on my friend's description of it).

Erza shows up in the Manga right after the Mansion story as well. The Anime did add kind of a half story in between though with the Chicken Wizard and his buddies.

Once Erza shows up the series starts dipping into it's main plot with the Demons of Zeref. The Death Flute is the first of them and they keep building on Zeref all the way through from there.

Have to say The series has a lot of great female characters; Erza, Juvia, Mira, Mavis, Cana. Lucy really dose grow on you as the series goes on and Wendy is starting to graduate beyond "token loli"

and yes I am very much behind the Levi/Gajeel ship.

Erza still pretty much takes it all though. Erza vs. 100 was just fantastic. I felt it was a bit more epic in the manga but the anime still did a great job with it.

Silver Crusade

My opinion is that most of the anime's best fight moments come more from Erza than Natsu, but I think it has more to do with the fact that she is an S-class wizard and Natsu isn't. Not that he doesn't have some awe-inspiring beats (Tower of Heaven immediately comes to mind). But yeah, Ms. Scarlet is definitely one of reasons why I keep coming back.

And as far as Levi/Gajeel goes... if it works, it works. I just wish Grey would wake up where Juvia is concerned.

I found Fairy Tail on Netflix again, but couldn't bring myself to actually click on the play button. The guy on the cover looks so...Naruto-ish. Am I judging a book wrongly by its cover here?

Assuming the guy on the cover is Natsu

Think of him as a Red Dragon bloodline Bloodrager with 5 Wisdom.

He's a mostly happy headstrong idiot prone to destroying things. Has pretty much Zero angst and believes the best solutions to problems is kill it with fire. If that doesn't work use more fire.

Silver Crusade

I'm obviously biased when it comes to Fairy Tail, so take what I say with that in mind...

Don't let the cover illustration prevent you from missing out on a good series. The first four episodes will test your tolerance level, but they are not wholly representative of the overall series. And while Natsu does indeed share some traits with Naruto (reckless, loyal to a fault, and very straight forward), I consider those more in keeping with the fact that, for the most part, almost everyone in Fairy Tail (the guild) exhibits those traits. The series is not perfect and while there are some characters that I wish had never been introduced (The Jiggle Butt Gang immediately comes to mind, but they are also from the series Rave Master, which is also by Hiro Mashima, as is Plue, who is one of Lucy's Celestial Spirits), however the good things overwhelmingly outweigh the bad, at least as far as I'm concerned.

Bottom line, the show has great action beats and has one very strong theme running through it: the importance of family. The guild considers itself one big family, and though individual members may have issue with one another, those get put to the side when a threat comes along.

Because when you mess with one member of Fairy Tail, you mess with all of them.

See, one of my biggest concerns with Fairy Tail is that it seems more 'wacky' or 'over-the-top' than Rave Master Was. Basically increasing some of the things I disliked about Rave Master (like the Jiggle Butt Gang). I enjoyed Rave Master the most when it wasn't being overly goofy and wacky, but my initial exposure to Fairy Tale (the little of the Manga I read) seemed to focus a lot more on the goofy and wacky than Rave Master did.

I guess, I'll just have to sit down one day and binge watch the first season or so of the show, so I can get a good feel of it, then go back and read the current Manga.

Jiggly Butt Gang........they've shown up ...... twice

Fairy Tail dose have some goofiness to it but mostly it's action adventure. First 5 episodes are pretty silly as they lay down the setting. Most of the story arcs are reasonably serious with goofiness in betweem.

For example Erza's back story is a rather horrific tale of Child slave labor, rebellion and betrayal.

Sounds cute.

But 50 5min episodes? How much story can we get in five minutes? That is like those little mini webisodes Dr Who did a while back. Once comedic scene per episode is all they will have time for.

Thanks! I gave it a try, and while it is a bit slapstick for my taste, it's also strangely engaging. I'm only three episodes in, so if it gets better after #4, I should be a fan soon enough. :)

(It might be in part due to the kick I get out of the narrator or the characters every time they say 'Fairy Tail.' I had no idea that a sound could be halfway between D and L!)

Been watching Bleach recently. Been a fan of the manga for a long time thought I'd take a crack at the show. I like it, some of the action scenes are much more compelling animated rather than read.

Sounds like adventures of mini-goddesses.

RWBY seems to have worked some of kinks out with it's second season. The animation is better (though still clunky at times) and the quality of the writing has been more consistent (though some of the jokes still fall flat). The episodes have also all seemed to be around 10 minute mark, which better than the handful of 2 minute episodes there were in season 1.

I will say, I'm getting really concerned for Pyra's survival, between her name, the fact that she got to spend several minutes shining as she thrashed Team Cardinal, and the bad guys figuring out why she's seems to be "invincible". I'll be very disappointed if we lose her, considering she and Nora are probably my favorite characters. (Though Nora probably benefits from appearing in small doses.)

It was pretty neat. Alot of gratuitous stuff in the beginning and in falshbacks, but the story was neat.

I get the feeling Pyrrha will be a 'fallen Paladin' kind of character. Based off the trailer, it seems Jaune will do something stupid at the dance, and Cinder has her on her 'list'. That list could be threats to be killed, threats to watch out for, or possibly people they want to convert.

Well if you are basing possible survivability on name basis, most of team Juniper are on the chopping block, and unpleasantly so at that if any of them go the way of their namesakes/inspirations. Particularly Jean and Pyra, who are both flying enough death flags to be mistaken for an army.

As for what apparently happens at the dance, "Extracurricular" gave a hint at that. Jean, oblivious to Pyra's feelings, unintentionally does something that breaks her heart. This could be resolved in multiple ways,
1. Jean belatedly realizes what he's done and reconciles with her quickly.
2. Jean belated realizes what he's done but it's too late and she is dead/changes sides/quits beacon
3. Jean doesn't realize what he's done but Pyra gets over it and resigns herself to being a "big sis" mentor.
4. Jean doesn't realize what he's done and Pyra leaves in frustration only to die/betray the team etc.
5. Pyra wises up and beats him over the head with her shield until he gets the point.

admittedly 5 is the least likely but would probably be the most satisfying.

Just finished watching episode 25 of Kill la Kill... I enjoyed it. This one answered a question I had concerning a certain character in the show. If you haven't watched it or any of the other episodes that came before, well... what's wrong with you? Don't you know it's just confusing to watch episodes out of order?

But, in all seriousness... watch all of Kill la Kill. It's a great show.

Thank you sir, you are a Gentleman and a Scholar.

Watched it, pretty good send off for the series, closed up a few hanging questions I had. Had one last over the top hoorah and bridges the gap between the end of 24 and it's distant finale.

Kinda sad to see it end though, was one of the best new anime in a good while.

cute

Sword Art Online was a fun and enjoyable series. Now to (im)patiently wait for season 2 to come out on Netflix.

Sadly, Attack on Titan will be not watched for a while. It is subtitled and not dubbed.
