A to Z Reflections

Well, the Powers That Be tell me I need to reflect on the A to Z blogging challenge. So, here goes....

Socially Awkward? Don't Make Me Disintegrate You!

Stereotypes are just oh so convenient, being a sort of shorthand generalization that encompasses so much in so little space. Work as a television writer? Need to instantly identify a throwaway character as a bad guy? Toss in the shaven-headed, tattooed Hispanic male wearing a white undershirt and baggy pants....

Pour One Out

The Libation domain for PF clerics. :)

Word regarding the first post - with regards to the sond - I'd love to see a take on the domain that takes RSP's new conditions for intoxication from Barroom Brawls into account. Btw., it's always neat to read your posts! :)

I'm not familiar with those conditions. I mean, in terms of the game, I'm not familiar with those conditions. :)

Fixing the Internet

Well, not all of it.... :)

A Short Essay & Black Dragonfolk

A link to a non-game related essay and a newish monster!

"If You Have Telekinesis, Raise My Hand."

Telekinetic Monk Archetype

The telekinetic monk combines martial arts with psychokinetic power. He can launch flurries of telekinetic blows at range and develops an array of psionic and psi-like abilities as he gains experience.

Better Bardic Bang for a Buck

Several bard spells!

Dodeca Weather for Sale!

Let the mighty d12 control your campaign's weather.

Wanted: Playtesters & Proofreaders

Do you want a small slice of fame? How about a small slice of fame with a side of free PDF? If so, I need playtesters/proofreaders for three PDFs....

Drakobolds & Troglodrakes

In which I retool two more monsters....

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Dragon Warrior

The dragon warrior’s dedication to ancient practices rooted in martial dragon cults grants him a small portion of draconic power. When a character gains a level as a dragon warrior, he must select one of the chromatic or metallic dragon types....

Oh, Snap!

A new product announcement and stats for a really, really big snapping turtle....

Peanuts Not Included

Today I bring you another archetype, this one for barbarians.

Zombie Brainstorming

My son Giant Boy and I watched 28 Days Later a few nights ago....

More Zombie Brainstorming!

As I blogged about a couple or so days ago, my son Giant Boy and I decided to add some survival horror to Go Fer Yer Gun! (which is published by Beyond Belief Games)....

“You want to find an outlaw, hire an outlaw.”

“Name’s Smalls. Leonard Smalls. My friends call me Lenny…only I ain’t got no friends.”

Of Zombies & Exploding Dice

Before I continue with my zombie brainstorms, I realized I made a boo-boo of sorts....

Going in Circles for Texicon 2012

Giant Boy and I are heading up to the Dallas/Fort Worth area near the end of July for Texicon 2012. I’m running Metro Gnomes, a post-apocalyptic survival horror adventure using Dyson Logos’s inspired Geodesic Gnomes RPG....

The History of the Plague

Enough game mechanics about horror suvival in GFYG!. Well, at least for now. I need to look at background information. Just like a tell my students, “When you do history, start with the five double-yous and the aitch.” Works for 5th graders. I don’t see why it won’t work here....

The Infected

Finally, game mechanics for the infected!

Brain Fiends!

Several grotesque monsters swarm over the body. Each appears to be an oversized brain with a single tentacle and snail-like eyestalks. They scurry about on spindly, insect-like legs.

Texicon Cometh

Well, Texicon 2012 is almost here. Giant Boy and I are heading up to the Dallas/Fort Worth area this Friday. At the convention, I’m running Dyson Logos’s Geodesic Gnomes and a Go Fer Yer Gun!/Call of Cthulhu mash-up....

Texicon Goeth

Well, Texicon 2012 has come and gone, and Giant Boy and I rest comfortably at home once more. So, you wonder, how was the convention? Well, let me tell you, breaking things down in Leone-esque categories....

Contests!

Hey! All you old school grognards!

Check out this excellent contest sponsored by the Secret DM. Grand prize includes one each of the 1E rulebooks recently reissued by WoTC....

Ooh, That Smell!

Several weeks ago, I read a thread on the Paizo messageboards about the scent extraordinary ability. It was started by a poster confused by the assertion that scent isn’t some sort of automatic enemy detection power that operates in a 30-foot radius....

Trekking to the Side

What follows is one of the villains from my most recent Quid Novi? mini-adventure, The Coming Storm....

Lately, my regularly scheduled writing for Pathfinder has languished, in part because I've been working on material for the wonderful OSR sci-fi game Stars Without Number. For example:

Adharan Ghost Moth
Castoran Salt Worm
Denebian Ripper
Elanoran Ripper

Tiamat's Throne

Excerpts from my first non-Pathfinder project, Tiamat’s Throne, a sci-fi/fantasy setting using the Stars Without Number core rules.

Zombies for Tiamat's Throne.

The Duonos: My first rough-drafted demi-human race for my Stars Without Number-inspired setting.

Bellatrixian Plague Fungus for my under-construction Old School sci-fi/fantasy setting.

Things've been a bit slow on the writing front lately, but I did get this brief blogpost up: About Those Dragons.

As I said on your site, I like SWN and what you are doing with it. This looks interesting. Tiamat as a dragon packing the firepower of a starship is just a fun thought.

Thanks, R_Chance!

The Magovore Invader is ready to feast on your wizard. Nom, nom, nom!

Human Decision Required: 70s sci-fi TV show and adventure design intersect.

Introducing the Feinos: Elves for Tiamat's Throne

The Malgrandegulos: The third and final new species for Tiamat's Throne!

Thinking about Magic in My Sci-Fi

"Make a Defense Check!"

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Thanks for continuing to post updates here. I spend more time on the Paizo boards than other sites and it reminds me to check in on what you're doing. Interesting stuff btw :)

Not a problem, R_Chance. I hope to get the playtest version of Tiamat's Throne out by the end of February 2013. Meanwhile, it seems as if my various blog updates posted here and other places is slowly building up some interest.

Blogging about a way to let players have more narrative control over the game.

Interesting, but I suspect it will take an experienced GM to function well and / or a good group of players who won't push it too far. An inexperienced GM or a pushy player (or players) and you'd have a train wreck on your hands. Or at least a messed up game :) Probably a good idea to make this optional unless / until the GM and players are ready for it.

Life on Rigel: The badlands world of Rigel presents several challenges to its population.

Empathy Psionic Discipline: Empaths are often viewed with mistrust. Many believe they secretly manipulate the emotions and actions of populations.

"Stand Ho, Ho, Ho!": Unleash the blitzkringlers on the forces of Chaos in your Swords & Wizardry game.

Going Boldly in Style: A glowing review of 0 hr art & technology's spaceship maps.

Terror Has No Shape!: Feed your Stars Without Number and/or Sword & Wizardry PCs to the sarpashana!

Ribbit! Ribbit!: Beware the giant heliotrope frog! (for Swords & Wizardry)

Stop the Cycle of Violence: Or turn loose a pair of New Dawn Syndicate terminator drones on your Stars Without Number players.

The Gibbering Sea: Spend a week by the Gibbering Sea. If you dare!

The Book Golem: The library is open.

Planetary Tour: Adhara: Visit Adhara. Buy anti-imperial music. Flee from the art police.

The Sleeping Knight: A champion who sleeps until his time comes.

The Masked Diva: Grace Jones as a demonic servitor of the god of deceit!

So I love this article, but was wondering by you set the base DC at 15 for noticing a person? Shouldn't it be 0+modifiers? Like hearing a conversation!

At least base 0 if you have scent...
Maybe base 15 if you don't
