Goblinworks Blog – A Suggestion

Pathfinder Online

I’m very excited about the possibility of Pathfinder Online, despite never having played Pathfinder itself. Naturally I’d like to share my enthusiasm with my friends by getting them onto the blog so they can see for themselves what an awesome concept PFO is. However, they’ve been put off by the massive amount of reading material on the blog and the reverse order it is displayed in.

Now that there is a kickstarter page up, others will be flocking to the Goblinworks blog and no doubt be confronted with the same issue. Is it possible to have links at the top of the blog page (with the individual blog headings) which links to the individual blog entries so new comers can read the blog in order, and have the ability to brows topics of interest to them.

Anyway just my thoughts On how to get new people up to speed quicker.

I agree some organization would be nice. On the other hand, I already read all the blog posts already.

Also, Pathfinder Online might not be out for awhile. In the mean time of waiting, I'd highly recommend looking into playing the Tabletop RPG since you said you never played it. I enjoy playing it a lot more than video games... and I've played video games just about my whole life.

We need a wiki, maybe Goblinworks can set an official one up so there doesn't end up being 4-5 of them or a dodgy wikia?

Have you checked out PathfinderWiki (which incidentally forked from Wikia over a year ago because of their more "dodgy" practices?

I'm in the process of building a Pathfinder Online portal to provide people new to the game an intro to what the game is, what is promises to be, and as a springboard into the larger world of Golarion and the Pathfinder campaign setting. If you're interested in working on providing such information or even helping to edit or format it, we'd love to have you as part of the project!

Feel free to PM me with any questions if you've got any.

I would love to give Pathfinder a try, as I'm a huge fan of 3.5 DND, and from the little of seen of Pathfinder they've done a great job of taking over the brand and making it even more awesome. I'm seriously thinking about buying the players guide (even though its unlikely I'll ever play TTRPG again), just so I can get the flavour of the classes and the world.

My real hope is if the blog is easier to read for newbies I will be able to convince some video gaming buddies to seriously consider PFO. Also it will make it easier for me to periodically refresh my poor memory as to what the proposed version of PFO will be like

Try out your local chapter of The Pathfinder Society! Its a great organized play program, with groups meeting pretty much everywhere! I'm a bit of a PFS addict, so I'm probably biased...but PFS is what got me hooked on the system. Give a shot, you never know! We also have a fairly thriving forum, please check it out if you are interested!

This sounds like something The Seventh Veil would be all over. Did you guys see this?

I saw it. I'm sure we will end up contributing in some form.

We saw it. Early on, we had discussions about the proper focus for our own library (wiki) and decided that we really didn't want to try to bee the Pathfinder Online Wiki. Our focus will be more in-character.

There will probably be a lot of overlap for articles about the kinds of things that actually exist in-game, but we aren't expecting to provide the kind of meta-content that a real wiki would need to offer.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think some of our members were in communication with Pathfinder Wiki during that time.

We wish Wiki Monster there very best of luck.

Makes sense! Just thought I'd give you a heads up, in case you missed it.

Much appreciated, and please don't ever hesitate :)

I did talk directly to the Pathfinder Wiki peoples. We briefly discussed joining forces, but we wanted to be able to include things like player written fiction...which would not have a place in an official PF wiki, so we decided to decline.

We did not want PF PnP players to be confused by our PFO content.

By the way, our wiki is up and running, just not yet branded. We are currently excepting applications for any who wish to contribute. Just apply at our charter website to be a scribe instead of a member of the Caeruxi (if you do not want to join the charter). There are more detailed instructions on the website.

I know alot of people are frightened of Perma Death and thats understandable but what about TEMP DEATH?

If your Character Dies you are "unable" to Rejoin the game for X amount of time. ( I Do NOT recommend Days Only Minutes)
If you fall into a bottomless ravine that might be more time than if you die by 2 HP.

So its a POWERFUL concern for players who Really WANT to be playing but at the same time not so Frustrating as having to rebuild Everything from the floor up.

I TRULY think that this idea has just enough incentive to make it an Excellent Tool for SMART and CAUTIOUS Adventuring without Taking Away from the FUN!

#2 Random Loot Grab from Fallen Players. Its Frustrating to lose All your Equipment at ONCE. How about 25% ??

#3 The Ability to BURY loot in the Wild and Mark it for return. It can have a % chance for Rusting and Discovery but its Frustrating to have to trash stuff you find and its kinda fun to think you might stumble upon someone elses Buried goods!!!!

#4 I think Time PLAYED should ADD to Skill or Ability Stats. It has to be ACTIVE time but its Frustrating to PLAY as Much or More than someone who Crafts a Special item yet they get Most of the Perks.
Crafting Deserves a Bonus but it gets WAY out of Hand!

#5 A Bonus for Players who reach certain Milestones of ACTIVe playing Together! So if me and a friend spent 100 hrs Questing we get a Teamwork Feat or Stat Boost when we are TOGETHER

Well there are a few ideas and I WELCOME all feedback even if you just call me a Chump ;]

PS If there is a BETTER place to Post these Ideas please Forward it on for me.

You're a chump.

You've necro'd an unrelated thread (appropriate avatar notwithstanding) to raise topics that we have discussed so many times over that it makes me want to sink into a pleasant fugue of undeath.

Pathfinder is 3.5 made right. It isn't 4.0 which I didn't like. If you liked 3.5, you will like Pathfinder more.
