Grats on the funding!

... but doesn't the Kickstarter project have a Heisenberg or false analogy problem associated with it? E.g., I'm not really interested in the MMO, but I would like to get the Thornkeep book -- so if I pledge funding to get the book, it will be communicated to Angels/VC's as interest in the MMO?

That problem exists for every Kickstarter project. Pathfinder Online Technology Demo is not exceptional in this regard.

Huhwhat? Most Kickstarters are funding production of a receivable, not being used to fund a presentation and gauge interest to show to potential investors.

This Kickstarter *IS* pretty exceptional in this regard.

I mean that all Kickstarter projects include benefits at different pledge levels which might be the only benefit the backer is actually after.

I think Kräftig was essentially saying "I'm backing the project, but I'm really only interested in the book, so people seeing my support have the wrong idea."

And Nihimon is right that that problem is not unique to us. Any project that offers any rewards that aren't exactly identical to the project—which is pretty much all of them, to at least some degree—has this issue. Don't worry—investors will realize that not everybody who backs this Kickstarter will actually end up playing Pathfinder Online.

And that's why we're announcing that our first stretch goal won't be based on dollars, but on the number of backers.

Donate smaller amounts under multiple pseudonyms. Gotcha! I'm on it, boss.

Funny, that thought occurred to me, and then I dismissed it. Instead, I'll be working on getting my wife and dad and as many friends as I can to come on and donate at least $1.

Grats GW!

Congrats to GW on the rapid success! I am confident you're on the right track with this project.

And woo on the Inaugural Goblin Squad membership!

I've got a question in regards to the Kickstarter. Will those backers who become part of the playtest still have to purchase the final version of the game when it is released? Also, will members of the Goblin Squad be given advanced capability to purchase the game prior to it going to the public?

You can read some of the comments on the Updates from GW: concerning how the rewards tie in with the game later. It's not an exact answer and you may still want a GW comment to answer your question directly, but it will shed some context on the question I think, as it's related to similar questions posted at the link, already. Hope that is useful reading.

Just FYI, check out the "Show" button below the entry box where you type in your posts. It has lots of info on formatting options.

One very handy trick is to use the [url] syntax to make links clickable.

Instead of just pasting:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1675907842/pathfinder-online-technology -demo/posts

You can instead write:

{url=http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1675907842/pathfinder-online-techn ology-demo/posts} Kickstarter Project {/url}

This will make a clickable link exactly like the one below. Just change the { and } to [ and ]. (I used the former so they would show up in this post)

I knew that another forum had a dislike of Paizo and Pathfinder, but this is going a little too far.

I read a bit more on those forums, and one guys recommends doing any google search about Dancy to see what a horrible person he is. I followed his advice, using his terms: "Ryan Dancey WFRP review" and other than the same forums, found the opposite. The first link besides the RPG.net forums (who clearly dislike Ryan) is one making fun of rpg.net and making fun of why they dislike Ryan, and praising him as one of the few great minds in the gaming market.

Fun reading :)

My limited knowledge of the RPG.net forums is they aren't worth frequenting.

On the Kickstarter messageboard, I posted something of a soft ball question.

Quote:
For those of us that have already pledged, what further actions would you suggest to the project's supporters to help this Kickstarter reach its next goal for 2,000 backers?

I would imagine that asking for pledges to the Kickstarter Project from friends, family, colleagues, guildmates, Pathfinder Society members, and other gamers would be helpful. Post links to the Kickstarter from Facebook, other social media, and other game related forums. Encourage even small pledges to help the project reach its goal for number of backers.

Has the team considered utilizing the Pathfinder Society network of Venture-Captains/Lieutenants and other Members to help drive support to the Kickstarter? I suspect that promotion of the Kickstarter at PFS events over the next fifteen days would help.

Perhaps adding a an option to the Paizo's online store to allow people to select a option to make a pledge to the Kickstarter along with completion of whatever purchase they are making?

In any case, congratulations again on the Kickstater project's continuing success.

Cheers,
Jim
