Top Pathfinder campaign supplements

Lost Omens Products

Hi, first time poster here. I'm new to pathfinder but I already own the core book, begginer box, bestiary 1 and will get the Inner Sea book in a couple of weeks.

I also have a $100 budget to buy supplements from the setting. They seem to be 20 each but I have no idea what to get. So I ask what are the best 5 supplements?

Don't know if it will matter but I try to run urban campaings but I won't shy awy from wilderness stuff if the material is good enough. I also hope to run something were the PC travel different cities in the continent although I'm not sure how feasible that is within the campaign transportation technologies.

Thanks in advance.

That's tricky. Golarion has a lot of variety in its setting and recommending a book or 6 might leave you with books for areas you don't care for. For example You have devil tainted Cheliax, freedom loving Andoran, the ongoing revolutionary terror in Galt, the dark shadowed realm of Nidal etc. etc. That's just 4 nations. There are dozens.

The best thing to do is to look through the Inner Sea Guide and work out where you want to set your game. Then buy the books to expand that area.

Do you have anywhere in mind?

If you're a fan of urban campaigns, then the number 1 supplement you want, without any question is Kaer Maga: City of Strangers. Wall to wall flavor and inspiration, filled with the old, the new, the bizarre, the outlandish, and enough adventure hooks to fill up a myriad of complete Adventure Paths. And best of all, it's written not only to be functional, but also to be enjoyed. James Sutter is the writer, and did a masterful job of putting this book together. There's a reason this thing has a 5-star rating.

I was planning to start the campaign in the town described on the begginer box (Sandpoint right?) and from there have the party go continent-trotting for a Mcguffing.

I was thinking of getting the faction guide and rival guide to come up with some opposition and work from there but if there are some must haves I can work my campaign around that.

Kaer Maga, Korvosa (for 3.5) and Magnimar (upcoming) are three cities in the Varisia (upcoming Player's Supplement) region if you were looking for a plausible "city hopping" campaign dotted with wilderness treks. Granted they're not all available yet, but will be in the next few months.

EDIT: They're all close to Sandpoint too, which would work in ok with what you outlined above. If you're looking for adventures, you might also browse the product descriptions and discussion threads of The Shattered Star Adventure Path (commencing Augustish this year) as it sounds to me like there'd be some useful material to you.

Ok, thanks. Very helpfull all.

I would suggest that you wait until after you glance over the Inner Sea World Guide. You might find an area you like more. Then the chance is there is not much developed for that area.

When I run a city campaign, I use Absalom. There are 2 other large cities on the island and a bunch more within a few days travel by boat.

Also check out the Pathfinder Wiki.

Thanks for that link. Very helpful.

If your looking to for non area specific books, Inner Sea Magic is very good. It contains plenty of rules for all sorts of classes, as well as a solid amount of flavorful information.

Most of the companion books are great, depending on what exactly you want.

Finally, the Dragon Empire books are really good as well.
