"Mass" Flesh to Stone ?

Advice

As overpowered as it may sound, is there a petrification spell that can affect multiple creatures at once ?

I was thinking of scenes where one person "sacrifices" itself by asking someone else to petrify him with another creature, usually a dangerous monster. However, Flesh to Stone only affects one creature, not more.

Time stop. Gate in as many critters as you can that can cast flesh to stone.

Now, to find an outsider that can cast flesh to stone...

I've always wanted such a spell.

In the 1001 Spells splatbook there's a 9th level spell that petrifies everything in a 40ft radius centered on the caster.

The Warlords of the Accordlands setting had a wondrous/alchemical item called the "basilisk lilly" that did this. AOE flesh to stone (think DC 16 fort).

Cost about 4 grand a pop if I remember.

...plus all their stuff. I guess if you have your foe pinned and can lift it off the ground, that enemy could qualify as "carried gear".

Time stop + gate doesn't work.

Well, Geb managed it so there must be some way. He was apparently a very adept user of the wish spell, though.

I allow a 'Mass Spell' metamagic feat (along with a similar 'Communal Spell' feat) in my games... but it increases the target spell by 4 levels, so 'Flesh to Stone' with the feat would be a 10th level spell.

Technically, since Flesh to Stone already has a range greater than Touch a 'Mass Flesh to Stone' spell would normally only be three levels higher... so 9th level. I haven't seen such a spell, but it is consistent with the way other 'Mass' spell effects work. That is, mass versions of touch spells are always 4 levels higher and mass versions of ranged spells are 3 levels higher.

Dominate Monster+permanent Shrink spell+a few craft checks= tiny medusa flashlight.

Bonus points if you make her undead so you don't have to feed her.

Oh, what an awesome trap. "You find a small canister. There appears to be a small glass peephole in the lid."

Hmm, where can I work in a Can-O-Medusa....

Greater Polymorph. Turn some character into a gorgon, 60' cone breath weapon that turns to stone.

the nice part is that the DC of the breath weapon is set by the DC of the spell, not the creature. Greater Spell Focus (Transmutation), ho!
