Liberty's Edge

Anybody else playing this? The game is really polished, and seems well thought-out. I was a HUGE GW1 fan, and some of the deviation from a few of the things that made that game great are a little off-putting, but man, it's turning out pretty good.

Also, Jeff Grubb is involved! I cornered him last PaizoCon and talked to him about the game, he was very enthusiastic about it. From what I've seen so far in a limited sample size, he has good reason to be!

I miss monks, though. :-(

I imagine they'll add monks later.

But yes, I am playing this game and its a lot of fun. The PVP is a blast too. I don't need gear grinds or whatever ... I just want good balanced fun and this is it.

Liberty's Edge

It's weird because I see a lot of the old PvP guys saying how much less fun they're having than on the old game, and in many cases I actually agree with them and their reasoning...and yet it is enjoyable. It's just a different kind of enjoyable. I think once guilds really get going and strategies mature, it will be pretty fantastic.

I was fairly unimpressed at first, but I have to say that it grew on me over the weekend, to the point where I kinda want to go home and play some more, now. :)

It's an interesting mix of very traditional games, and new features, that takes a bit of getting used to. The levelling curve also seemed a bit off... your story quest progresses much faster than your levelling, especially once you run out of 'heart' quests. But I suspect that's the kind of thing they can adjust with data from the beta.

The whole "your gun is your skill" approach, was interesting. At first I thought it seemed weirdly simplistic, but I kinda like it. I'm just worried if it can keep things interesting for 80 levels.

Finally, it seems heavily focused on the "public quest" system, that practically every MMO since Warhammer Online has come to realize is a great idea in theory, but not so hot in practice. If their scaling tech is good enough that these events can be completed with small groups, or even solo, it might not be an issue. If not, that could present a pretty significant concern after launch.

The second beta weekend, from june 8th to june 10th, has been announced. Looking forward to it! (more than I thought I would. Weird!)

I pre-ordered the game on a whim (honestly I have never played the prequel nor been able to participate in the betas), after being tempted by the Engineer class.

I'll most certainly be dropping by for the next one!
