Question about Long Range sneak attack.

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

Ok, let's say it's the second round of combat, the Sniper sneaks around in the bushes. The enemy is no longer flat-footed, the battle has begun. The enemy doesn't notice the sniper, sniper hits! My question is, does the enemy avoid the sneak attack damage, because he is no longer flat-footed, or does the sniper get the sneak attack damage because he was sneaking and remained unnoticed by the enemy?

Silver Crusade

You can only sneak attack at range within 30 feet.

Silver Crusade

Yea, I know. Just wondering if you still get the sneak attack damage if target is no longer flat-footed but you remain unseen in sneak mode.

Yes, and that target will be denied their Dex bonus to AC against you.

However, the Stealth rules are atrociously written so I don't think there's a citation for that anywhere in the CRB.

Contrary to popular belief being flat-footed is NOT a requirement for whether sneak attack works, being denied a Dexterity bonus to AC is. Flat-footed causes one to lose your Dexterity Bonus to AC.

Being 'invisible' does cause your target to lose their Dexterity Bonus to AC and they can therefore be sneak attacked.

I've always ruled that 'invisible' means your enemy cannot see you. Some GM's use the literal interpretation that 'invisible' refers specifically to the condition Invisible.

Oh sorry. It's just the thread says long range sneak attack and you used the term sniper, I thought you mean some dude shooting from far away.

There are a couple ways to expand sneak attack range, one of them are the Sniper Goggles added in Ultimate Equipment, another is Ninja Tricks to increase it, and I believe there are races with that as a favored class bonus. Otherwise your DM can say "No this gimps your character" and say you're free to snipe.

note you must be able to see your target to get sneak attack, so even with sniper goggles, using a magical version of an ICBM on someone on another continent you don't get sneak attack.

teehee :)
