Golarion - Where to start?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Hello there. I'm relatively new to Pathfinder. I bought the core book for a friend for christmas and since then, my group have started 4 or 5 different campaigns. Another friend of mine, after hearing my new interest, gave me his collection of Kingmaker books. After reading the players guide, I fell in love with the amount of detail put into Brevoy. I've just started running the Kingmaker campaign, but I would love to give the players the options and opportunities to adventure to other lands and places in Golarion.

But where to start?

There seems to be a huge amount of detail in the world, which is amazing, but is there someplace I could start? I noticed in the store there are individual books detailing specific areas, but is there a book I could get that gives an overview of the whole world? Or is there somewhere on-line that gives some details of places? If I do like the sound of one of the other places, where's the best place to go for more specific info?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sounds like you're looking for The Inner Sea World Guide or pathfinderwiki.com.
There's also The Inner Sea Primer which is a quicker player-intended read.

The inner sea primer is cheaper, but the inner sea world guide sounds like what you're looking for.

In terms of books focussed on specific areas (sometimes thematic, sometimes geographical) you should browse the campaign setting product line.

Those were written since pathfinder came out, although the ones written for D&D 3.5 are still eminently usable. Steer clear of the map folios, would be my advice - they often aren't what people expect.

Scarab Sages

For Kingmaker I would also advice you to get the Guide to the River Kingdoms. It explores the area surrounding the stolen lands in some detail.

Cheers muchly! There are a lot of books in the store, and it seems that unless you know where you're going, it's easy to get lost.

my personal suggestion is this. It's an investment that will see many returns on. Get the Campaign setting and sit down to read.

My biggest problem was getting through at least two region descriptions without stopping and jotting an idea.

And just for clarity, the Golarion "campaign setting" book for Pathfinder RPG is Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide.

(I just clarify because the 3.5e version was named "Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting" before the whole product line was renamed Pathfinder Campaign Setting.)
