This ia an interesting read so far. At first, I didnt know what the context of the quotes PFCBG had used was, but after reading through that thread, just suffise it to say that I completely agree with Thea's side here.

except I'm purple... and a bunny... and swinging isn't dignified (unless there is alcoholic drinks involved .. then swinging is awesome!!!)

I don't know if we can call what you do to your players "abuse". That's like saying Stalin "abused" his people. :P

Yes, my cousin does have said swings... some are purple. A few are velvet. Most are drip-dry. Just remember to sign the waiver before mounting one.

Re: Jiggy's concerns.

While I feel his question to me was answered adequately by others, perhaps it would be something to add to the Venture Captain's section of the 4.2 guide. Just a paragraph about how to address grievances to the VCs/VLs. One "Matt Sucks" might not raise an eyebrow, a whole bunch* on the other hand...

Spoiler:
I once was asked not to GM again when murder in the silken caravan resulted in a TPK. I didn't even report the event.

Yeah, through the other GM at the time. In hindsight, it was one of the harder modules, and I misread the timeframes involved, but it wasn't like I was *trying* to kill them all.

moment of awesome with 12 year olds and whips.

Spoiler:
First steps II, my niece got the clever idea of moving 10 feet away from the paralizyed barbarian and trying to grab him with the whip and pull. She made it, despite the non-proficiency penalty, and then hauled him 5 feet (based on the strength check) not really enough to get him away, but the ghoul then leaps at her and she makes the saves vs paralyzation and ghoul fever. Saved the Barbarian from being dragged away. I was impressed at the out of the box thinking.

Then let's scale back the example a bit:

Averageguy plays at GM Wellintentioned's table. GM Wellintentioned botches a ruling and costs a player an expensive scroll or some such thing. Averageguy wants to address the issue, but feels a bit timid about it because he already knows how much work the GM puts into running the game and he's worried about coming across as a complainer or hurting the GM's feelings. So he says nothing to the GM (neither at the table nor afterwards).

So instead (we'll assume he either doesn't know he can talk to a VC or thinks that's a disproportionate response) he comes to the boards to ask for advice. But instead of being told what his options are, a bunch of tired GMs who just finished being told how bad they are by Whiner #117 come in and tell him to show more respect to his GM - the GM that Averageguy was already too polite to even confront in the first place.

Sound a little more realistic that way? I hope so, because it's not hypothetical.

We can give tons of advice on how to run games, and how to build characters. Messageboards however are not the best avenue for the learning the "how to act like an adult" skill set. We can show AverageGuy the oasis, but he's got to fill his own bucket.

GM's make mistakes, Players make mistakes. Dealing with it and moving on... isn't a gaming skill, it's a basic "life" skill, and it's something you should be developing outside this venue.

This made me laugh, but mainly because my 8 year old daughter calls sprinkles "fairy poop". She gets some really weird looks at Dairy Queen when she orders!
