Creating an intelligent item

Advice

I would like to create an intelligent weapon that can cast chill touch at will, i've seen 1st level at will spells on items created by the sites "intelligent item generator" but under the rules I don't see 1st lvl at will spells listed. How much would this cost? And what would need to be done in order to create this weapon, feats involved, caster level etc.

Does the weapon cast it, or does it allow the wielder to cast it? 'cause When the weapon casts Chill Touch, the only thing it's touching is its wielder...

You could have it cast it when the weapon connects.

+1

This is the intended use, and I would like the weapon to be empathetic that way the wielder can basically "ask" the weapon to cast it and use it on the enemy.

Now I know chill touch spell rules are a little loopy and are basically set at a "dms ruling" but im ok with the spell only having the effect of a first level caster I just need a cost modifier for an at will first level spell on a weapon.

Here's what I have so far...
int. 11
Empathetic
True neutral or neutral evil
ability to cast "chill touch" at will

Everything up to that last point cost a total of 200 ontop of weapon cost, is there anything else that needs to be added to an intelligent weapon that im leaving out? Please all help is appreciated, this is my first attempt at creating an intelligent weapon

Your pricing seems off.

Base +1 weapon: 2000gp + the price of a mundane weapon.
Intelligent item: 500gp
+1 Intelligence: 200gp
0-level spell at will: 1,000gp (and +1 to its Ego score)
So you're looking at 3700gp plus the value of a regular weapon. And it'll have an Ego score of 2.

You may want to ask your GM if you may make touch attacks with the weapon to deliver only the spell effect, and no other damage. It would be legal, and may prove useful.

Sorry I was roping in the "+1 weapon bonus" into the original weapon cost. I knew an intelligent weapon had to be magical so I wasn't counting that, what I was asking is how much extra, ontop of cost for the regular magical weapon, would it be to add a 1st level spell at will for the weapon.

I saw that for a 0-level spell at will it was +1000. I also saw where it said a first level spell 3 times a day was 1200 but the next at will spell level I saw was 4th level at will for 56,000

Now I know it would have to have at least an 11 intelligence which adds 200 to the original cost, where are you getting the 500gp cost from? And does anyone know what an at will 1st level spell would cost?

They have listed 4th level through 7th level at will spell costs, and after figuring out the mathematical pattern, I worked it backwards until I got to 1st level spells, the cost I came up with is:

2000 for first level
12000 for second level
30000 for 3rd level
*56000 for 4th level
*90000 for 5th level
*132000 for 6th level
*182000 for 7th level
240000 for 8th level
306000 for 9th level

Those marked with an * are listed in the book

Actually, intelligent items can always use their own abilities. So you can leave the intelligence at ten and save some gold. The 500gp is straight from the rules:
And the rules wrote:
An intelligent magic item has a base price increase of 500 gp.

Oops, I thought it was a cantrip. An at will first level spell is not covered by the rules for intelligent magical items, so you'll have to work around that. You can add it to the weapon before making it intelligent, but that rather negates the need for intelligence in the first place and makes pricing a tricky business.

By the book:

  • One continuous 1st level spell: spell level x caster level x 2000gp = 2000gp
  • Effect based on a spell with a duration measured in rounds: multiply by 4. 8000gp.
  • Does not take up a body "slot": multiply by 2. 16000gp
  • Multiple different abilities: multiply cheapest element by 1.5. So that's +1000gp on the base weapon.
So we're looking at 17000gp, and the weapon isn't even intelligent yet.

Those are "dedicated powers" though, and will only function when the weapon is performing its "special purpose".
