Dad update: ** spoiler omitted **
Guess it is the year for these types of things. My 87 year old mom is prepping for Radiology treatment in the next few weeks. She went into surgury on Friday to move her pace maker.
This is due to finding a cancerous lympth node a month back in one of her breast.
They basically gave her a few options (either ignore it due to her age, or get radiation treatment). Given her age they could neither recommend chemo or radical masectomy.
I shall be travelling back to Ohio for the end of July, beginning of August to spend 3 weeks with her before I have to go back to work for the fall and to provide relief for my sister in driving her to treatments and during recovery time.
Good luck

so the sun orchid elixir also helps with diabetes?

*Accepts hugs* Had a good day. Learned that the convention in April had 8,100 attendees, and that next year, We'll probably have 5 voice actors. They are: Travis Wilmingham, his wife (whose name I forget), Brina Palencia, Cherami Leigh, and Monica Rial (maybe). Next year, the convention will have a space large enough for all five actors to sign autographs at the same time.

Safety note: If you use a pressure cooker, always check the valve before you do, unless you plan to make a sacrifice of skin and flesh to the powers of ohmygodhowdoistopthisfromexploding. I might do less typing the next week or two...
Did you not check the valve to make sure it was clear? That must have been terrifying just before it became excruciating.

Sorry to hear, Feytharn. Next time, remove that little rocking weight on the lid to vent the steam before opening. It's safe to open when no more steam is coming out. Check for steam condensing on a cold knife.
That was somehow stuck. When it finally moved, it released a spray of steam and boiling water on my hands. Nothing too bad, but pretty painful - and I have that one superpower that makes me immune to painkillers (except for Diclophenac that I am strongly allergic to).

It seems to be a mechanical problem not caused by but undiscovered through carelessness. At least the whole thing still has its warranty going on, so I might just get a new one.

It could be that the weight and the spindle are made of different metals. Different metals expand or contract at different rates at any given temperature. The spindle could have expanded while in its receptacle, and the receptacle could have gotten smaller because the weight also expanded. Thus making the weight stuck to the lid. :) I bet no-one here expected a physics mini-lesson.

News make it look like Germany might finally get ahead and make gay marriage possible in the near future. Come on, make it happen already!
I really hope so. So far, our conservatives did a "great" job not to let that happen and only now, that basically every other party has said they won't go into any coalition that will not make this into law, they seem to give in.
to quote the Guardian:
Speaking at an event organised by women’s magazine Brigitte, the German chancellor said she felt aggrieved that the gay marriage debate was mainly carried out along party lines and that she hoped the discussion would be “headed towards a conscience vote”.
And she says that fully knowing that it's her party that has been the single and biggest obstacle on the way to any vote at all so far.

Just got back from the Doctor's, and I've got good news. This type of tumor is one that responds best to radiation. So, no chemo for me. And no being sick from it. No definite date for the surgery, as the required endoscope is in a different hospital. Going to have a pointed, directed conversation with Corporate's Benefits department. The Hospital says that the Insurance provider says I have no insurance. If so, why is it still being deducted from my pay? I will find out. Oh, yes I will.

Good news on the nature of the tumor! As for the conversation: Best of luck!

And give those Corporate's Benefits department people hell.

Between myself and my wife, we make up a BLT! She gets the best part, I'm Lettuce and Tomato.
It's not a problem within my group, but then again, my "group" consists of myself, my wife, and our two roomies, who are long-term friends who have been aware of my Tomato status for years.
That said, I've recently ventured out into Society play, but my voice is an issue (and I wasn't given prior warning the first time I went), so I've just been presenting as a cis male when we go since I don't have time to make myself presentable. :/ Easier than explaining... but I'm worried about coming across as "that guy at the table who always plays lesbians."

I'll be sure to bring bread and some funky mayo should I meet you and your wife.
