So people started sharing photos on the FaWtL thread and I thought I might start that here as well if people are down, I am curious what y'all look like.

All I have are some old photos on my comp right now but that's ok (I am skinnier and more feminine now but they are still pretty accurate.)

Me

Wife

Wife and I dancing.

Anyone care to show photos of themselves and their families and friends?

Also:

Me jamming

Me enjoying coffee

Was going to show you'll some pics of my two best friends but apparently all I have of them are pics of them inappropriately dressed at the club.

I need to get a new camera and update some stuff, been years since I was a photo bug, might be fun to do that again.

Edit: Especially since those pics above are of me looking mannish, would be fun to show you guys what I look like with long hair and make up.

Apparently a NSFW photo of my best friends was in the album I linked, it has been moved, sorry for any offense caused.

Huh. Well that's a new change, I used to be embarrassed when people saw me looking like a woman, now I am finding myself embarrassed that I linked photos of me looking like a man. How times change.

Except the me being embarrassed part, that is eternal.

Not everyone will be comfortable sharing, but I don't mind. My boyfriend and I had some good photos taken of us about a year and a half ago. Here we are. I am on the right with the glasses.

You're a cute couple=)

I understand not everyone will be comfortable sharing, after posting my own photos I am starting to feel like I am pretty ugly, whatever people want to do is cool, I'm just interested.

Here is a photo of Tara and I visiting Texas (in fact the USS Texas in Houston).

But we are a couple of old farts, not like you bunch of young kins! :)

Having been together since Feb of 1988. A lot of what many of you are going through is old school for the two of us, though we have been around long enough to have participated in Various Pride Parades, Marches on Washington, going through Civil Union, when it became legal, then running to the courthouse and being officially married when that became available in 2008, to this years milestone of filing our first fully Joint Tax return on both the state and the Federal level, without having to mark special boxes.

Life has been hard at times, but it definitely makes it better when you can do it with the one you love.

I just posted a pic on my Facebook timeline. Being kinda public it's easy to find

Aww... You two are adorable!

Forgot to thank LordSynos for catching this and bringing it to my attention, my friends have yet to learn that you are still topless if you wear paint, paint does not count as a bikini top or shirt=p

Hopefully I can get some fully clothed pictures of them at some point soon, they are cool people=)

Thanks, I think, not sure what the standards around here are.

Our standards.

And while I can't find a recent pucture of myself to link to - just think of a slightly blonder version of the guy who plays Jim Gordon's partner on Gotham

So I was talking about my surprising embarrassment at looking like a boy in those old photos with my wife when I showed her the picture I shared of her and she was like:

"Ooooh, seriously? You chose a picture of me where I have no make up on, bags under my eyes, a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other and I am wearing a jacket that looks like it was freshly stolen off the mouldering corpse of a world war 2 pilot?"

I told her you all are cool and non-judgy like us though and she was cool with it(she says hi by the way).

Also helped that I could point out we only needed to be as put together and attractive as Tim the Enchanter to be accepted though. =D

Hmmm, I would consider my wife pretty even if she lost her face in a horrible cheese grater accident, and she has always liked me whether I present as male or female...

But we both have self esteem issues...

It occurs to me that perhaps it is human nature to be our own biggest critics, even if everyone else accepts us.

Yeah, my wife is beautiful and I let her know it. ^_^ And she likewise does for me, though I almost never feel it.

Nice hair! You look a lot like my wife, as you can probably see in the video I linked upthread. So, that's a compliment.

Aw, Yeah! (also; damn telepaths)

Article from the Al-Jazeera:

Transgender teen wins settlement with South Carolina DMV
"A transgender teen will be allowed to return to her local DMV and take a new driver’s license photo wearing the makeup she puts on daily, after her lawyers struck a settlement with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles on Wednesday. DMV employees had told her to remove her makeup to "look male” in her photo."

So the Iceman thing has been causing a lot of mental anguish on the interwebs and I think for good reason. It seems somewhat poorly handled. The bierasure here is kinda super bad. And this psychic is invading his mind without him asking and telling him something that he's not yet ready to face; basically outting him to himself. That's a bit troublesome. The inclusion is nice, and there were probably good intentions but now's the time to start a discussion on how this could have been handled better.

The X-Men have often had a problem with telepaths doing terrible things to people who trust them, Professor X has essentially toyed with them without their consent before, definitely calling into question how nice a guy he actually is.

Stories with the whole attitude of acting like the gay character is being ridiculous for hiding their identity because "No one cares" Always annoyed me a bit, because it places the anguish on the gay character alone and acts like people don't have seriously negative reactions when you come out, which is true in the situations of some people but for others can be literally life or death.

I'm actually ok with stories where gay characters are outed in a bad way though, not everything is sweetness and light, a story where being gay is actually hard is much more relateable for me, anyway.

Jean's been doing things like that for awhile and been called out on before. This version of her has only recently gotten her telepathy, without Xavier's guidance - and gotten her whole future as Phoenix with multiple deaths dumped on her. She's under a bit of stress. Which isn't an excuse, but might be a reason.

The Iceman thing doesn't ring true for me. This is a kid version of a character who'd been around for 50+ years and never shown any real signs of being gay (or bi). Sure his relationships with women haven't all gone well, but that's because a) comics need drama and b) he's been a sideline character much of the time and new writers generally drop old relationships when they bring him back.

Pretty sure you're right and it's a retcon not an original intention, but on the other hand when have comics not been reinventing or rebooting almost everything=)

Liberty's Edge

And it not like it matters anyway since he's gonna cease to exist in a few weeks to months anyway when Marvel reboots everything.

Silver Crusade System Administrator

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yeah, rebooting things is kind of what comics do. =)

Liberty's Edge

Actually it's the first time for this sort from Marvel.

Professor X has been one of the chief dicks of the Marvel Universe for decades. True, a lot of this was written in retroactively, but it fits, it is consistent, and quite reasonable. The most powerful telepath in the world certainly would end up with a massive bank of secrets, and stuff he was not proud of having done. Expediency can be a b@+&~, sometimes. Ask Hulk. Also, Xavier has never been a warm character. He's emotionally isolated from everyone except an alien queen, go figure.

Is Iceman bi??? What??? I haven't heard of this, can someone explain?

I actually love ice powers, though I wasn't a fan of the Iceman character himself. However, this would actually get me interested in reading about him.

Also yes, telepaths are morally gray by the very nature of their powers. You have to violate a lot of consent and privacy to use those powers to their fullest extent.

I found it flat out unbelievable.

Come on. It should have been Beast. Clearly.

I think it should have been Wolverine.

"So, my memory has come back and I just remembered something about myself, bub."

*extends claws*

"I always thought there was something a little gay about these things anyway...and come on, does wearing yellow spandex seem like something a straight man would do?"

Yeah. Today in Imperfect Representation: One of the Original X-Men Just Came Out as Gay. You can find snippets of the comic in other places.

That puts a whole new spin on the two-man luge.

Indeed.

Unrelated, but how scary would it be to be on a luge that went into a spin?

I think I would be terrified even on a luge that was working right=)

Well that feels very clumsy, but at least it has good intentions behind it? I mean, I see the valid points people are making, but on the other hand, I feel we do not have the luxury at our present time period to look too closely at the fine details.

I think a good reaction to have as a general consumer audience would've been something like "That's cool, thanks for adding inclusivity! Would've made more sense if he had been bi, though! :)"

On a random note American Dad had an episode that more closely matched some of my experiences than some of the nicer coming out stories in fiction.

Apparently Terry's dad and mine are the same person. (watch till 13:30) Lol.

Well, it's not an either-or. Though in my headcanon, Beast's an ace.

Oh that's annoying, apparently my link was taken down by youtube(I assume because it was a full episode) and I can't find the individual clip.
