Greyhawk map references for Age of Worms

Age of Worms Adventure Path

I just acquired (after much ado) an old two piece map of Greyhawk from the World of Greyhawk boxed set. I wanted to reference the locations from Age of Worms on it but am somewhat puzzled. Where exactly does the Spire of Long Shadows take place (besides the obvious answer - in the Amodeo Jungle). Where is Redhand? Did I overlook Alhaster? Can some Greyhawk fan give me hex locations? I'd really appreciate that. I apologize in advance for my cluelessness.

I don't know for sure about the mapo that you're using, but I bought the Dungeon magazine PDF's with the official Greyhawk map when I ran AOW over the last two and a half years. It was invaluable.

There is no location given for the Spire, I think that's intentional. It's supposed to have been abandoned since 1500 years ago, so you can just place it in any hex that is within Tenser's 1800 mile teleport range that he states during his monologue. There are plenty of jungle hexes suitable. You'll notice the city of Cauldron nearby, that's actually the other Adventure Path city.

Anyway, Redhand is along the northeast corner of the Nyr Dyv (the big lake in the central flanaess). The town of Alhaster is actually marked on the map right on the coast.

Note that White Plume Mountain is nearby, and to the northeast of Alhaster is the Rift Canyon where much of the adventure path occurs.

Personally, when I ran the AOW, I had the PC's start in Nyrond. I just placed Diamond Lake near the northern end of the Duntide River and swapped out the Cairn Hills for the Flinty Hills. This put the PC's in a more central location from which to reach all the adventure stuff in the campaign, and it gave me a lot more "virgin territory" to work with. There have been a couple modules about this region that give good detail on the politics and stuff, and I sort of stole some of that for my version of "current Nyrond" to add more subplots to the campaign. In the end it worked out fantastically.

I really think the Age of Worms was the best campaign I've ever played in, in my 30 years of playing D&D. It was certainly without question the best campaign I ever DM'ed. I started it in August of 2009 with 5 players, and over the course of the next 2 and a half years I gained so many players that I had to start turning people down. The campaign is just that good.

You got the card poster, with the hand-drawn map by Darlene, right?

If so, several of the locations in the AP will be places that were detailed long after that map came out, so they may not be marked on your copy.

If you can get your hands on the 4-part poster map, put out by Paizo, this is much more up to date, and has most of the locations marked on.

If I get time to dig out those maps, I'll give some pointers.

Alhaster is in hex S3-73 on the old two-piece World of Greyhawk map (across the mouth of the Artonsamay River from Radigast City). Redhand covers an area around Alhaster, roughly two hexes north and one hex east and west.

The Spire of Long Shadows is described as being 1800 miles south-south-west of Tenser's fortress (which is located in hex Y3-82); however, this would place it off the southern edge of the map. The Spire is also described as being near the city of Cauldron, which can be found in hex Y4-143. I'd therefore suggest that the Spire can be found "deep in the Amedio Jungle" somewhere to the south-east of this, perhaps in hex T4-143

Thank you so much! I got the original 4 piece Paizo maps put out in Dungeon back when I had a subscription. I remembered they were nicely updated for the adventure paths. Unfortunately, when I dug out the magazines, the maps were missing and I can't find them anywhere. I was left with the 1st edition gigantic 2 piece map and felt a bit overwhelmed. You're a life-saver. Thanks again!

No problem. Let me know if there are any other places you need to locate.

Note that you can still buy copies of the Paizo maps. A bit annoying to have to fork out $12 to buy something you already owned, but if you really want them...

Ah HA! Sorry for the late response, but I could have SWORN I'd seen a map with Spire of Long Shadows on it. Took some time to finally locate it. :)

It's not on the large Greyhawk map at all, but if you have Dungeon #140 (Book 2 of the Savage Tide AP I believe) you can find it there.
Spire of Long Shadows is about 60 miles due southeast from Sasserine, deep in the jungles near the Tiger River. It's on the overland map of Sasserine and its environs.

Good catch, Jenner2057! That would put the Spire in hex X4-143 or W4-143 - not very "deep in the Amedio Jungle", but certainly close to Cauldron.

Just so other recent purchasers know - the reason the map might not include dungeon locations for the Age of Worms / Savage Tide is that the map was released in the period after Shackled City and prior to Age of Worms.
