I am the PFS event organizer at my FLGS. Twice a month there and I also GM once every couple months at another store. I kinda need some assistance figuring out how to get more involved at conventions. They seem very intimidating to me. I'm sure my local VC wouldn't mind helping me out. That is what they're there for, right?

Come to Kublacon 2012 and I'll teach you more than you want to know. We'll have 125 tables of PFS goodness and I can put you on the front lines, get you battle-tested (with support), and show you the big picture of how to make a convention go.

Nope, not even kidding. :) This convention is going to rock.

Consider this a personal and open invite both to you, roll4initiative, and to anyone else who wants to learn more about how to run a convention.

Only the best GMs are allowed to run at Kubla, and if you don't start out that way, you end up that way after you're through :).

Agreed. KublaCon draws some of the best GMs on the West Coast. Whether you have them at your table (they all have the best player manners, truly) or you play at theirs, it is a fun, educational experience that will broaden your love of the game and your GMing toolkit when you go back home.

Looking at the schedule I count no less than 4 VLs, 1VC running and another VC playing, and then there's Painlord at the wrangling desk.

I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Nice list. I thought there would be more 4 stars in the Northeast due to population but it seems the player base might reflect the major convention locations as the midwest has the largest amount of 4/5 Stars GM's. May be a correlation between the two.

There are probably 3-4 more who were overlooked simply since they don't post often. Mike is protecting their identities in case of a catastrophic event such as the brake lines being cut in the cars of the other 20-odd known 4/5-Star GMs.

*Puts away his wire cutters*

What?...;)

Silver Crusade ****

Silly Dragnmoon, you don't simply cut the breaks, you "wear" them down so that they'll cut out at roughly the point they're on the highway. If you just cut them, they'll figure it out at they're pulling out of their driveway...

Jeez, don't you ever watch TV?

Grand Lodge *****

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Yeah, if your brakes let go before you start moving you'll notice when the pedal descends all the way to the floor in a smooth, quick, easy motion with no resistance. Then all you have to do is use the emergency brake to drive the car to the repair shop.

Has this happened to me? Um, why do you ask?

Generally, it's very hard to remember the emergency brake if the brakes let go while you are traveling at high speed and you haven't encountered this problem before.

In the SE we actually have quite a few upcoming 4-star GMs. I know that Nani will in just a month or two, and so will Josh Foster and Joe Caubo within 1-2 months.

Well so much for staying hidden on my 3-starness. If Master Brock gets a master list, then I need to get more 3, 4, and 5-star GM's in our area. :D

Shadow Lodge ***** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Alma

Another couple of months, and I'll be joining the 4 star ranks... :D Unless things go wrong or my math isn't correct.

Silver Crusade *** Venture-Lieutenant, Texas—Pasadena

Provided I keep my pace up << i'll be 3 stars before OwlCon in February; it'd be nice to organize Comicpalooza 2013 with three stars and shooting for number four by then ~.~ I think we've got.. one three star GM in this area..... Maybe.

Andoran ***** Venture-Lieutenant, California—Fresno aka Sarta

I'm shooting for June for my fifth star. It will be my second anniversary of GM'ing PFS. The upcoming convention season should make it easy.

Cheliax ****

I'm going for 4 stars in 1 year, from PaizoCon to PaizoCon. I'll be 3 stars on Friday and have 6 months to get my other 40 sessions.

I am actually on the slow-down... I got to 3 stars so quickly (15 months), that I unintentionally sacrificed play time to get there. So now, I want to get some more play time in before I progress to my 4th.

Also, to me, it's not about the number of sessions I run. It's about what I learn and how I improve from session to session that makes the stars even more worth working towards. If I am just GMing to get stars, it's a chore and not a pleasure, which eventually leads to burn out.

Just my two cents.

Qadira ***** Venture-Lieutenant, Michigan—Detroit

I have to agree that it's best to slow down and smell the roses. In the long-term it's healthier. There's a competitive streak in many of us that drives us to do more, go faster and then measure ourselves against others. It is fed by the GM Star program. Try to resist it. Look at Dragnmoon for an example. He's been GMing since waaaay back in Season 0 and he's only recently reached 4 Stars ;) In fact, I really hope he takes a long break from GMing and just plays for the next several years. He's earned it! Relax and give the up-and-coming players a chance to run some scenarios in San Antonio ;p

Hey I already took a Whole Year Off!

After Running the First Pathfinder Society Game Ever in Europe. I took a Year Off while I lived in Germany... Ok the real reason was I could not find anyone to play that year..:(

I agree with Master Doug. We do get a little competitive about getting higher stars quickly. And after all that I've been through these past 15 months, it is incredibly important to take a break and enjoy the game as well as serve.

But to me, GM stars are not a big deal. Especially since, at this current point in time, they don't really mean anything besides bragging rights.. I don't get a discount on anything, free adventures, or anything of that sort. I'm just an awesome person. Now I am not against being an awesome person, but it's just one of those things where the stars to me just make my profile look cooler.

To me, each session I have run, has introduced me to new people, friends, game ideas, and ways to improve in my knowledge of the game. Which is far more valuable to me than a star on my message-board profile or Pathfinder Society card.

It would be nice to see the GM Star Program mean more. It is my hope, that it will be expanded upon and improved in the years to come. In the meantime, I'm just another awesome person who helps run a fun game. And I am okay with that. :D

Taldor ***

I feel obsessed to attain my 4th (and maybe 5th?!) star next year. If nothing else, I must try to be the first 5th star in Continental Europe. ;)

For example I'm planning on a "Four days, four sessions" next week.

So very true .. the journey is more important than the destination.

Andoran ***

I would like to get to my fourth star, someday, simply to widen the pool of folks locally able to run the Exclusives.

Somehow, having the only run I know of locally be on Feb. 16th, about 11 days before it goes general on Feb. 27th, just doesn't seem like enough runs...

*****

Huh...what? I heard my name.

For the record, Georgia is just swimming in stars. You can't throw a d20 down here without hitting like 10 stars worth of people.

Thea is still gonna beat me to 5 :-P I'll go for 2nd place!

So one of you two would be the first female 5-star? Or am I mistaken?

Has there ever been a female 5 star GM?

Best of luck on the dash to 5 stars. PFS really needs more females at the top of that mountain.

Actually thinking of slowing down, and maybe playing some. I was actively participating in the death race with Eric, but I'm not getting to do all the other things I love to do.

Beating Eric is just not worth more time painting, more time playing Halo 4, more time with my Wife and Son, and more time just goofing off.
