Supergirl - the first Linda Lee Danvers version. I like to give DC credit for trying to reinvent her a couple of times before the fully Crisis retcon. Also - that was a touching sacrifice in the mini-series.
I wanted to believe in the "new" Kara Zor-El, but it just comes off as Super Fan-Service Girl.
Infinity, Inc was a team book that was kind of interesting as well. The idea of a full team of legacy heroes was done in JSA, but the concept was really started in Infinity.

I miss the old crude, rude, crass, beer-drinkin, cigar-smokin, lose his temper with the drop of a hat, Wolverine from the 70's and 80's. They took the essence of a great character, and in some respects watered him down to make him more kid-appealing, and in others, over-exaggerated him so they wouldn't lose other fans, depending on what book you were reading.
And Peter Parker, the ever Amazing Spider-Man. They should have left him and Mary Jane alone.

I never really got into Lian, but I did love how it changed Roy's character to have to be responsible, not just for himself, but because there was someone else counting on him now.
Plus the fun of the superhero being on a mission and talking into his communicator, "No honey. I don't believe that Mister Skootch put the waffles in the VCR." "Why?" "Because Mister Skootch is a stuffed animal, and daddy's not quite that dumb..."
Lian growing up to be the Young Justice cartoon version of Artemis (half-Asian archer) would make heads explode, but be funny, since the cartoon Artemis was Chesire's sister, and Lian-as-Artemis would be her daughter...
.
I'll add Kole, killed off in Crisis on Infinite Earths to the list of characters I miss, as long as Teen Titans are on the brain. They brought back Supergirl (three times?) and Barry Allen and the Crime Syndicate (*also* three times?) and *the entire flipping multiverse,* why can't they bring back Kole?
Also Garth/Tempest. The only 'sidekick' to grow up to surpass his mentor, in power, to the point where a funny sidekicks vs. mentors fight had Wonder Woman decisively spanking Wonder Girl, Batman gradually kicking Nightwings butt, and Tempest just tossing Aquaman around like a rag-doll. Heh.
I kinda miss the second Doom Patrol, particularly Celsius, as well, but with a name and legacy like Doom Patrol (or Suicide Squad, or Strikeforce Morituri), I suppose that I shouldn't get attached to any of those characters. :)

Doom Patrol under Morrison who had Couliguia(sp) Crazy Jane and Rebus was crazy awesome.
Crazy awesome, but crazy awesome in a way that only Morrison could pull off. Though the writer that followed (Rachel something?) did better than I'd expected.
Still, add them to a list of characters that shouldn't be touched by anyone else.

I do not care for Morrison, I think he needs strong handlers/editors in order to put out anything of real substance.

I found it infuriating that Marvel implied its third-rate villain Dr. Demonicus successfully defeated Godzilla and mutated him further, leaving him pathetic and helpless to be killed at will. Any version of Godzilla—Showa, Heisei, Marvel or Millennium (and no, that 1998 travesty is not Godzilla)—would have laughed at and immolated Demonicus as an aside between real adventures.
As Pacino has said, "What a crock of $h!+."

I'm with ya!
Quite frankly, I think I hate every version of WOlverine AFTER the Dark Phoenix saga... When I started in the 80/90's... I HATED that character... and everything he ever became.
Then I read from Giant size #1 and finally realized what an awesome character he was... till they ruined him with over-popularity/exposure...
It's why I loved Hugh Jackman in the first 2 x-men movies... Very back to basics!
But then the next 3 ruined him again...
/sigh...

Some old issue of Iron Man—#193, if I'm not mistaken.

The Defenders
The Hulk, Silver Surfer, and Doc Strange version.
'nuff said
And Namor.
While we are on the subject, the REAL Guardians of the Galaxy. The Heroes of the 30th Century (Marvel-style). Not to be confused with the DC Legion of Super-Heroes. Who, themselves, bear a striking similarity to the X-Men (70s-80s era additions).

That's all Dave Cockrum, who, while not a comic book character, is definitely missed.
Had DC not passed on the ideas, his designs for Nightcrawler, Wolverine and maybe even Storm could have been DC properties!

Whatever happened to Yondu, Nikki, Martinex, Charlie-27, Starhawk, and grown-up Vance Astro?

Instead we got Shadow Lass, Timber Wolf, and Ferro Lad instead of Colossus. And since none of them has been driven into the ground, and made a mockery of their former selves by overpopularity, I think that counts as a win for the Legion.
Speaking of which - On Topic: Long Live the Legion!

When Captain Marvel died I was about 9 year old and I was devastated. This is the Mar-vell, Jim Starlin era Captain Marvel (early 80's) who died of Cancer in the first large format graphic novel.
Cancer took out my uncle and my favorite super hero in the same year. Son of a ^&th!!

Yeah. I remember thinking that it was just my luck they'd off one of my favorites, while retaining much lamer heroes.

In related news: Many years ago, National Periodicals - not Timely Comics - won a lawsuit, and the rights to a Superman knock-off. Later Timely renamed themselves after that character. Legal rights to the name ensued.
Thanks to Jim Lee and the New 52, Marvel just has to wait a few years, and DC can never again use the name, or reprint any old stories of: Captain Marvel.

Which is why the Marvel Family has been appearing in titles referencing Shazam, instead of Captain Marvel for decades now.
Has something changed in this recently? And what does the New 52 have to do with this? It's also tied into why Miracleman isn't Marvelman and why Marvelman wasn't still Captain Marvel. And why Marvel can now reprint Alan Moore's Miracleman. Which you should read if you haven't.

A preemptive farewell to the Je'daii, the Fel Dynasty, Galactic Alliance, and everyone else that Disney has just put an execution order on. Fortunately, they can't take the Sky from us.
For those who haven't heard, Disney is taking the SW license from Dark Horse as of 2015, and handing it to Joey Q.

Everyone saw this coming. If they burn the shrine to Boba Fett I'm all for it. I still can't comprehend how a character who does nothing in the movies, and died the stupidest death of any character in the entire trilogy managed to convince writers he was deserving of the title of 'biggest badass in the galaxy." It boggles the mind.

Elongated Man. He was a great character, and I really liked him and severely miss him. Original Rhino, as well. He had some great moments just before his untimely death.
Then there's this whole new 52-killed-off-practicaly-everybody-thing going on. I am not a fan of what they did to the Joker. Also, I miss the old Mister Freeze....

Wonder if DC will ever bring Kole back. She was a pretty unique character with a unique power (name someone else who can spin crystal) and a unique costume (crystalline fan-like sleeves that always seem to open up for her arms when needed) created just so the Teen Titans would have a casualty in that godawful Crisis on Infinite Earth or whatever.

Kole is definitely a favorite. As long as we completely ignore her 'origin story' about her scientist parents turning themselves radiation-proof crystal bug-people to escape the nuclear holocaust they thought was coming... Yikes. :)
But there's also Krystalin, from the X-Men 2099 (the best X-team nobody ever heard of, with other amazing characters like La Lunatica, Xian Chi Xan and Meanstreak). In addition to being a mutant who generates crystal, she's also daughter of a leader among the New Black Panther party (who are Wakandan-inspired) *and* worships Thor (which is not an uncommon faith in the 2099 Marvel verse). She's not 'dead,' per se, but since the 2099-verse has been pretty handily demolished and is unlikely to ever be seen again, might as well be.
And Crystal Kid, from the Legion Academy. Various other Legion Academy mainstays, like Shadow Kid, Power Boy, Lamprey and Nightwing, were written off-screen and abandoned a few years back, but Crystal Kid didn't even get that, and has apparently been forgotten. Perhaps he got stuck in the bathroom, or something, and missed graduation...
Such an awesomely visual power, even more so than the already awesome looking ice-generation powers more commonly seen, and yet characters with that power never seem to go anywhere in the comics.
Meanwhile, we've got fiddy hojillion people who create green (or yellow, or red) energy boxing gloves, and more Superman-clones than you can shake a kryptonite-stick at. Go figure.

What are you talking about? Power Boy being in a relationship with another Legion Academy grad was a major storyline last time around. Had NO idea he was gay. Nightwing and Lamprey showed up as well.
