Single session encounter for 1st level characters

Advice

Sovereign Court

I ran through the Beginner Box module for some friends of mine who never played before, and we all had a ton of fun. Last Friday I helped everyone with character creation (protip: this is best done 2-3 people at a time, not 6), and now we're getting ready to have our first adventure using the Core Rulebook.

I was going to do Hangman's Noose (and try to get it done in 2 sessions), but it seems half the players are out of town for Spring Break, so after this Friday we won't be able to play for 2-3 weeks. I don't want to do half of Noose now and half in a month, so I'm looking for a fun 1st-level jaunt that can be accomplished in one sitting.

Anyone have any recommendations? If there's nothing out there, I was thinking of a simple "town has bandit problems" scenario - a bit of roleplaying to get on the good side of the townsfolk (who might assume they're bandits at first), then two skirmishes with bandits (a scouting party and the main force).

I don't ever play with modules so I can't really tell you a module to run but if you're looking forward to running a module in the future then why not make something up leading up to the module, the trip to the down where the module starts could be full of kobolds that needs to be cleared out so that merchants can make the trip easier. Any thing will do, hell even making the trip take a week and string along a few random encounters. Some in the party could already be on the way there and they meet up with others in The party on the way there. Just something to introduce the party to each others characters, something that gives the players a chance to test run their own characters and try to work out team work issues and their place in the party. Plus you could put them up against enough to give them a level that way they start the module at second level instead of first.

Take the 1st two bandit encounters from kingmaker and streamline it to make it less sandbox-like.

Liberty's Edge

Two possible suggestions:

- Master of the Fallen Fortress. It's free in PDF form, short, and set in Absalom. I've played it and it took between two and half to three hours.

- Pathfinder Society Scenarios. They're designed to be played in a single four to five hour session. For a home game, you'll need to do some adapting, since they're designed under the assumption the characters are members of the Pathfinder Society.

Want to make your own short adventure? Try reading through these. I like them for ideas of something short.
