I used to work in gaming distribution in the late 90's. I was a salesperson at Zocchi. Just to give you an idea how amazon worked on small products. Amazon attempted to set up an account with us. The Amazon NDA was so horrible that we decided not to do business with them. We told them that we weren't doing any business with them, but that didn't stop them from faxing us orders for items(usually the hottest or out of print items) until we closed our doors(close to 3 years). Amazon demands a ridiculous discount and while I can't speak for Alliance/diamond if there was anything resembling a allocation situation(say alliance ordered low or only ordered their pre-ordered numbers) then Amazon will be the first cut because not only would they not notice, but they're paying less for it and not ordering that much. Just my two cents. YMMV.

James,
Take a look at these links, they both are the products that I preordered and were cancelled by Amazon and are no longer for sale by them, only other sellers.

Hey folks--thanks so much for letting us know! Amazon canceling preorders is a Big Problem, and management has been alerted. Hopefully this'll get cleared up in short order...
My pre-order of DISTANT WORLDS was cancelled by Amazon as well! :-<
This is the first time I've had that happen with a Paizo product -- what restitution (if any) do we have??
Cheers, JohnH / Wanda

Still working on this one. Rest assured, our fire-breathing distributors have been storming the gates of Citadel Amazon for the last 24 hours, so hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
Believe me, nothing makes a publisher (and in this case, an author) stomach-sick like the idea of accidentally losing all your pre-orders...
