Bodies of Water

If you do what SW:TOR did, I will quit and never look back.

Water != ankle deep no matter where you are.

Water == 3 axis movement and a breath bar.

The one thing I liked about rift, apart from my past games, was the ability to swim under water, and there were quests that involved swimming under water.

I want to be able to make my hideout in the middle of the deepest section of the West Sellen River.

One thing that really made me giggle quietly to my self was when I was told that I would be making an 'Amphibious Assault' on my Trooper in SWTOR. I guess in a galaxy far far away things are blown way out of perspective on a regular basis.

The one condition I will accept ankle deep water, is if I am actively being compensated for the unfinished game I am paying to play and there is a promise of opening up the water to 3 dimensions less than a year from the day I am given access to the game, with a maximum of 2 years from launch.

If you are really adventurous you will introduce currents and whirlpools. And when i say currents i am talking about the all the different possible currents in the river, not 'the river is flowing south, so you move south'. I want: 'the river is flowing south, so you move south, until you get to this hole that sucks you left and down with no hope of escape then you drown and I get all your stuff, because you just found the door to my hideout without the skill required to access it.'

It should take a boat to cross a river safely.

i would hope in a place called the river kingdoms there would be some deeper water going on. theres always underwater caves full of nasty things like sahaugin, lizardfolk and ninja beavers.

Agreed, as far as I know SW is the only game I've heard of to make this mistake. DDO regularly made use of swimming underwater for puzzles, even required teamwork (IE you needed 2 people to flip switches and toggle which doors were open, while one has to get through the tunnel before drowning. WoW also used water though not quite as inteligently.

As well I would think it would be nice to have a few spells to change how water effects characters in different situations, IE water breathing/water walk etc...

Ah, you're talking about the Twilight Forge red puzzle. I did that once with 3 players and only 2 underwater action items to share between us. Very nearly killed one of our guys.

LOTRO doesn't allow you to swim underwater, although you can occasionally see down into it.

I was under the impression that The River Kingdoms is mostly marshy lowlands. Now the Outsea would be one place to have deep under water structures but I don't think PFO is going to launch the game with this area included, im sure GW would eventually expand into this area at some point though.

Just don't be surprised if what we get at launch is marshy lowlands and shallow rivers. I just hope we get a plethora of watercraft for travel and transport. I would also like to see a robust fishing mechanic with different quality poles, gill nets etc. Exploring the river for lost treasure chests would be great, and maybe panning for gold.

I may be totally off, but I think I remember reading recently that the Sellen was around 12 feet deep at its deepest.

Warhammer Online also didn't/doesn't (whatever) allow swimming of any type. I didn't realize that other games included this limitation as well.

Yeah Warhammer didn't have swimming and didn't need it either, it's a purely PvP game.

No exploration to speak of and probably the worst PvE experience out of any game I've played. The PvP was why I played Warhammer and it's the only feature in the game that was good, to bad the musical chairs mechanic of control points and horrid PvEvP endgame was so bad.

But TF2 does PvP better and for free at that lol, TF2 even has better crafting then Warhammer and that's not saying much.

But I did have fun for a year with Warhammer, I enjoyed the PvP and the setting.

Sorry op for the rant I'll shut up now...

I hope they do full swimming environments in lakes rivers and dungeons just so they can have the mechanic for doing Flying in the rest of the world. I am not a programmer but it would seam an easy thing to do.
Fishing sounds fun. With proper magical gear exploring the depths can be a blast. Again I think 3D movement for all areas would be KILLER the top game of the year!

Lake Enearthan has a portion of it that is inside The River Kingdom.

This is a quite large lake. Like say roughly a fourth of the red outline that is supposed to show The River Kingdom. As soon as this lake is fully in-game they need a crude raft with a sail at the very least. They should also begin working on non-sea worthy riverboats and we should be able to swim from the day the game is released. Provided we aren't weighed down with a ton of heavy gear that will sink us. (No mining underwater in full plate like you can on WoW.)

As we get closer to the ocean they need to release longboats, which are obviously both functional river boats and sea worthy vessels. That way when the ocean comes we already have means by which we can trade, fight, and explore on the open ocean.

Then they can take their time and really polish out full scale ocean vessels and epic naval combat.
