Game for Learning the Ropes

Recruitment

Hey there, everyone. I'm new to Pathfinder and was looking to join a game either on a forum or via IM to help me learn the setting and system for this awesome game. Ideally I'd love to be part of a solo or small online group that has a long-term game, but for now some assistance with the basics is fine. I can learn about Golarion along with my character!

I have the three core books but other than that just a couple of modules and adventure path books. I generated a character using an RPG program I downloaded, so my character's stats are generated and ready to go. Right now I'm just looking for a game to put him in. Any advice or interest would be greatly appreciated. :)

First piece of advice is look at the recruitment threads here and post characters to them. It's more work, but IMO your best bet is to roll a new character with a unique background and personality for the campaign you're interested in joining. This allows you to respond to the things that the GM says they're looking for which helps get picked.

That said, I'm giving some thought to wetting my toes in the big old PBP GMing ocean. I'm considering a new player friendly Kingmaker AP because it has some concepts I'll try in a homebrew if things go well. If enough people post that they're interested here, I'll go ahead and start a recruitment thread for the campaign.

If you do run KM that'll be great as there are many players here looking for a first or second game. I set one up with all the characters being people who didn't have a game anywhere else and it worked out quite well with amazing roleplayers, but I suggest you recruit based on backstory rarther than a "first come, first serve" approch as oyu can tell who'll put more effort into roleplaying.

If interested in running a 6 player KM campaing someone has done most of the leg work for you with the community built 6-player KM campaign that's very handy. Just saying if you're interested.

I've been searching for a PBP campaign to join. I am new to PBP but have lots of Pathfinder experience to back me. I'd like to express my interest in hopes that you'll start something. If you do end up recruiting based on backstory as opposed to first come first serve, I hope that you'll take special consideration for those who have expressed interest beforehand.

Many players are eager to go KM since. If you post it they will come. You might get too many players. :)
I am already in a KM game on here now, but the other ones I applied for which died out had over 10 applicants so find potential players won't be an issue.

i have never pbp, and have tried 5 submissions, none got picked, but it was out of 20 or so for each one. I would love a noob game and definetly interested.

Grand Lodge

I know PF pretty well but never played online. I've been looking through some of the pbp here on the site and I'm definetly interested in joining one. So color me interested.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

The problem with introducing a new character into an ongoing pbp is figuring out when to slot them in. Sometimes it would take a week or more for the GM to engineer the right scene, so sometime it pays to have multiple character concepts ready and be patient for the moment.

Anyway, welcome to Paizo's pbp forums and enjoy your stay.

I''d definitely be interested in KM, or any AP for that matter.

I'm in the Navy and moving changing residency every couple years makes it hard to find a long-term campaign. I have always been interested in the idea of participating in a PBP game but have never really been able to find a way to do so. That said, if you create a Pathfinder PBP game I am definitely interested.

Well, based on this response I'm going to run the Kingmaker AP. This is not the recruitment thread for the campaign. Afraid I don't have time to set up a recruitment thread right now. I'll probably get something posted tonight.

Please bear in mind I'll be looking for original characters made for this campaign. More will follow in the recruitment thread.

I know you said more will follow in the recruitment thread but I was wondering how fleshed out of characters you would want us to have and how much information would you want? Do you want us to create a full character and then send you a scan of the character sheet? DO you have guidelines on what source material/stat generation rules/ etc you would want us to use?

Like I said, I've never done this before but am really excited. I just don't want to screw it up right from the beginning.

I'd be interested in a Kingmaker campaign as well. I'll keep an eye out for the recruitment thread.

Not to make anyone think I'm OCD or anything, but I've been updating my browser every five minutes for the past two hours hoping someone else had posted here. I'm really hoping that this goes somewhere as I've been looking into the Kingmaker campaign and it seems pretty interesting, but I still have a ton of questions and don't want to get left behind in my confusion.

Sorry, everyone. It's taking me a bit longer to get the recruitment thread up and running than I anticipated. I'll leave a link here when ready.

Just out of curiosity, why is Kingmaker so popular for people who want to get used to the system? Is it more geared for beginners than the other APs?

I don't know about it being more popular than other APs. I'm using Kingmaker because it introduces some mechanics that I'm tempted to use in a potential homebrew setting.

Robertness the kingdom building mechanics are very easy to abuse. I would be prepared to make changes to them if that is what you are looking at.

Yeah, I want to start off with the rules in the book and then tweak them mercilessly when the time comes. Have a recruitment thread open here.
