Muriel's Wedding

Favourite movie about at least one wedding?

Osirion RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

The Wedding Singer, duh. Two words: Drew. Barrymore.

Then again, Ming and Dale's aborted wedding in Flash Gordon is pretty epic (and has the best evil wedding vows ever), as is Arthur and Guinivere's from Excalibur.

Favorite movie featuring a volcano (LotR excluded)?

If inactive ones are allowed: You Only Live Twice - you just can't beat a ninja assault on a villain lair that doubles as launching ramp for manned space rockets!

If it has to be active... um... probably some science documentary... but let's see what there is in fiction... nope... movies with volcanoes erupting tend to be crap, it turns out, the only one that was ok that I could think of was Revenge of the Sith - and that's a planet, not a volcano.

Question stands, I want to know about a good volcano movie now.

Still pretty far from a really good movie, but I remmember 'Gli ultimi giorni di Pompei' more or les fondly.

But I predict this will be the best I will remember a few years from now...

Favorite movie set in any era of pre-byzantine rome (early republic, late republic, principate or early dominate)?

Grand Lodge

Gladiator - The recreation of the Coliseum was epic.

Favorite Oliver Reed movie?

My pick. But make yours first.:
The Assination Bureau. It was campy fun plus you had a Diana Rigg in her prime.

The Three Musketeers (he's Athos in the Dick Lester version).

Although considering where on the web we are, I really should have gone with Burnt Offerings. ;D

Favourite movie directed by Richard Lester?

My answer:
[i]A Hard Day's Night

Osirion RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

Is it cheating to say Superman II? I think it's legit. He did finish the film after the studio booted Richard Donner.

Staying with Richard (also my dad's name) as a theme, who are your 3 favorite movie actor Richards, and your favorite role for each?

Osirion

Richard Burton - Where Eagle Dare
Richard Roundtree - The Outlaws (TV Pilot Movie)
Richard Dawson - The Running Man

Favorite Timelost Movie?

Nobody has a favorite lost in time movie?

Is that what you meant by "Timelost"? I thought that was some subgenre or brand I was unaware of.

I'll go with Jacob's Ladder, since the main character really has no idea "when" he is. (Butterfly Effect gets an honorable mention for not sucking nearly as badly as I thought it would.)

Favorite movie featuring Earth and an alternative dimension/universe?

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber; Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Watchmen. That is very much an alternate reality. But if someone has something more appropriate to the question, then go for it.

Favorite movie starring an actor which was in Watchmen, but not Watchmen?

Almost Famous, where Billy Crudup plays a golden god!

Favourite movie with Frances McDormand in a leading role?

Mazra wrote:

Sorry -- to clarify, I'd meant Earth AND an alternate reality, not Earth AS an alternate reality...

Would 2001: A Space Odyssey count?

If so, my question is: Favorite factual movie, not a movie based on factual events? By that I mean a movie that was true to what actually happened, not a movie that was hyped up to make it look good.

Osirion RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

Miracle - I'm sure there may have been some bits of drama added in here and there, but according to the players on the 1980 US Hockey team it stands up as a pretty good representation of how it all went down.

Favorite fictional sporting event in a movie (by which I mean a wholly fictional event, not a fictional movie portrayal of a real-life event)?

Sean Bean kicking Man Utd out of the cup in When Saturday Comes, and surviving the whole movie :O, is always good for some fictional schadenfreude.

Favourite movie set "Oop north" in England.

Warning: Link leads to TV-Tropes.

The Wicker Man

People outside of London just want to set you on fire to appease their pagan gods, it's true!

Favorite movie about American yokels?

Osirion

Paizo Superscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Comics Subscriber

Although it casts them in a bad light, I have to go with Deliverence.

Favorite movie starring Burt Reynolds not Deliverence or the Smokey & The Bandit films.

The Longest Yard

Favorite movie centered around American Football?

Taldor

The Wicker Man is supposed to be set on a Scottish island... I would suggest This Sporting Life as a film actually set in the North of England.

Indeed.

Hmm, it's been a while.

Lord Summerisle's accent was very brogue-y.

EDIT: Wasn't very brouge-y. [sigh]

I change my answer to Straw Dogs!

Osirion RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

For movie centered around American football, I nominate "Against All Odds" - perhaps a guilty pleasure, but I enjoyed Jeff Bridges, James Woods, and the rest of the cast... including Kid Creole and the Coconuts!

Favorite movie centered around an "Olympic sport" (i.e., something like fencing, water polo, Greco-Roman wrestling, track & field, or some other sport that generally doesn't get huge publicity outside of the Olympics and sometimes the world championships)?

Doodlebug Anklebiter wrote:

Finally saw that recently -- good flick. Does anyone know if the remake is also worth watching, or if it's a travesty as usual?

Jason Nelson wrote:

Cool Runnings, if the Winter Olympics count.

Favorite movie about a plot to kill a political figure?

In my neck of the woods, not much attention outside the Olympics and world chamionships rule out track & field and greco-roman wrestling (admittedly, most of the attention tend to be about internal squabbles rather than what they do on the canvas, but it's still attention), but would allow me to pick a baseball movie if that hadn't been dropped from the program...

...Cool Runnings!

Favourite movie set at least partly on Jamaica?

As a side note, I bet you could make a great movie about Curling or Archery.

Kajehase wrote:

Dr. No. Back to my question above!

Kajehase wrote:

Apparently they did; it's called The Hunger Games, but since the target audience was teenage girls, I skipped it.

Favorite movie about food?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Favourite movie about a plot to kill a political figure:

The Day of the Jackal Strange how no-one's thought to do a remake of it, no? [/snark]

Favourite movie with Edward Fox in it?

Darn! Late again.

Dinner Rush

So... Edward Fox?

(Shudder)

You know, I like you, Jason, but you are one seriously strange dude sometimes.

Osirion RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

By process of elimination, The Sum of All Fears appears to be the ONLY Alan Bates movie I've seen.

Favorite Kathy Bates movie?

Favourite movie would be About Schmidt, although favourite role would have to be her turn as a private investigator in Primary Colors.

Old question repeated: Favourite Emma Thompson movie?

Osirion

Paizo Superscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Comics Subscriber

Dick Tracy.

This was 1 of only 2 movies Kathy Bates has been in that I have seen (the other being "My Best Friend is a Vampire" starring future "House" star Robert Sean Leonard). I can't belive I have not seen her more often.

This leads to my question for the next three people. Name a Hollywood A-List actor/actress of the past 20 years who you have never seen in a movie, but wish you had.

Edit: Ninja'd.

The same goes for Emma Thompson as Kathy Bates, the only movies I have seen her in are the Harry Potter Movies. Since that is my answer, I repeat my question.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber; Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Favourite Emma Thompas movie for me was Primary Colors. She did a great job as Hillary. ;)

To answer Charles question, I was going to say Claire Danes, but then realized I saw her in Terminator 3. That was a forgettable movie.

So I will go with Jean Dujardin. I definitely have not seen any of his movies, but would like to see The Artist.

Next two people!

Taldor

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I'd say Russel Brand but that doesn't work. I cant stand the guy and not seeing his movies is on purpose. Sorry I got nothing folks didn't want this thread to die so question stands.

Osirion RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

No clue. I don't see new movies that often because I'm a cheapskate and so I usually only see movies I'm pretty sure I will like ahead of time. That said, a lot of stars who are more famous for other things may show up in a movie I do see, like Marion Cotillard who is supposed to be great and wonderful in lots of things, but I've only seen her in The Dark Knight Rises, or like Mazra's comment on Clare Danes above.

New question: Favorite Steve Martin role(s)?

Hmmm.

Navin R. Johnson.

Favorite other movie with Jackie Mason?

Osirion RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games

It's not a movie, but I loved him as the anteater on "The Pink Panther Show."

(btw, my favorite Steve Martin role is probably Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr)

For other movies, I'd have to say History of the World: Part I.

Favorite other movie with Orson Welles (who narrated HotW:P1)?

I am going cheesy here and I am going to say Transformers the movie with Orson Welles as Unicron!

G.I Joe and Transformers which is better the recent live action films or the 80's animated features? Bonus if you compare casts lol.
