I really love Robert Downey Jr.'s combination of snark and action, and I love Daniel Craig's James Bond... but I think I'll surprise myself and say Chris Evans. After his role as Johnny Storm in the FF movies I thought he had typecast himself as a smarmy hothead. But dude, he completely sold Captain America in a way I wasn't sure was possible, both in the Cap movie and in Avengers.

(P.S. 10-ish years ago I might've said Viggo Mortensen, after not only LotR but also movies like A History of Violence.)

Favorite rom-com actress?

Spoiler:
Drew Barrymore, of course!

I was gonna say Kirsten Dunst, but she's not really done any rom-coms since she got out of the teen-movie genre, has she?

So I'll follow Jason's example and go with Drew Barrymore. Which kinda made me realise it's been a long while since I saw a good new rom-com.

Favourite Sean Bean movie where his character doesn't die?

I should have remembered that you were playing, Jason, and added an "other than comic book adaptations" clause!

Kajehase wrote:

Well, he most certainly dies in my uncontested favorite, Red Riding: 1973. But I liked him in Ronin as well, so I'll go with that.

Favorite Elmore Leonard movie adaptation?

Spoiler:
Get Shorty, although Stick (Burt Reynolds), Cat Chaser (Peter Weller), 52 Pickup (Roy Scheider) and Mr. Majestyk (Charles Bronson) were all pretty bad-ass.

You know I thought the exact same thing about Evans. I liked his part on Danny Boyle's Sunshine. Anyways nice answer.

I really enjoyed Out of Sight with Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney.

Favorite non-humanoid supernatural creature other than a dragon in a movie?

Jason Nelson wrote:

Whew. I was afraid someone would say Jackie Brown -- I love Tarantino, and the book, Rum Punch, is my all-time favorite Elmore Leonard novel -- but that movie somehow just didn't do anything at all for me.

Jason Nelson wrote:

The Smog Monster, from the old Godzilla movie.

Favorite kaiju movie?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

I don't know if Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong counts as an official kaiju movie, but I really like it. If we're talking old-school, probably Godzilla vs. Mecha-Godzilla.

In honor of Kirth: Favorite current action movie star that is NOT primarily in superhero adaptations?

I already answered a resounding "Jason Statham!!!" so I'll leave this question to someone else.

Scarab Sages

Would Sherlock Holmes be considered a superhero adaption? If not, Robert Downing Jr.

If my answer stands, my question is:

Favorite Drama Queen?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

NB: It's Robert Downey, not Downing

But, as to the question, how about Queen Guinevere from Excalibur. Hard to get much more dramatique than that! :)

In pedantic honor of Kirth: Favorite current action movie star that is not Jason Statham and that also has NEVER been in a comic book/superhero movie?

I think Clive Owen is pretty cool. And I don't think he's been in a superhero movie, but I could be wrong.

Your most hated action hero of all time?

Owen was in Sin City which technically is a comic book film. Not sure if that was what Nelson meant though by comic/super hero. I say it counts.

As to most hated action hero of all time would be superman. Guy has one weakness and can do everything alone its so damn boring. Most hated action hero actor is Nick Cage hands down.

Are you excited to see Total recall 2012?

Oops. I forgot about Sin City.

Not really. Unless they change the ending I already know the twist, and I was never that keen on the original movie either since it a) starred my least favourite action star, and b) is rather dated in how it looks, if you ask me.

Favourite non-superhero comic book movie.

Scarab Sages

From Hell.

Favorite Serial Killer Movie?

Grand Lodge

Se7en.

Three favorite Morgan Freeman movies?

A: Sadly, there are none, currently. Clive Owen is a chick-flick actor who appeared in The Killer Elite for a paycheck! And, yeah, Sin City is totally a total comic book.

Favorite as actor or director? Ill do both.

Director;
Midnight in the garden of good and evil.
Unforgiven
Mystic River

Actor;
The good the bad and the ugly
Gran Torino
Dirty Harry

Best actor turned director besides Clint?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

Ron Howard

Favorite actor or actress that shares a first, middle, or last name with you? (if that's too wildly restrictive, could share a name with a child, sibling, or parent)

Grand Lodge

Richard Attenborough

Best three fims with Sir Attenborough as an actor, director or producer?

(We have a twofer. Jason posted seconds ahead of me.)

Scarab Sages

[Jason] George Clooney (George is the english spelling of my first name Georg)

For simplicitys sake I let Mazras question stand as mine.

Clive Owen rawked the f+&$ing house in Croupier; he ruled the school in Children of Men; Shoot 'Em Up was pretty silly, but I've got a thing for Monica Bellucci; and he fought evil international bankers in some movie that wasn't terrific, but it had Naomi Watts fighting evil international bankers! EDIT: The International, duh. Gosford Park was awesome, too.

But, yeah, I forgot about Sin City.

(I might have a crush on Clive Owen.)

1) The Great Escape

2) Gandhi

Doodlebug Anklebiter wrote:

1. Too arty and pretentious an opening scene; I turned it off 30 seconds in. Which means, of course, you were destined to love it!

2. "Boo-hoo! No more babies! Everyone loves babies! Ooh, a pregnant lady! Babybabybaby!" What's the ratio of explosions to baby references? Yeah. That's a total chick-flick, not an action movie!

3. Is there a number 3? I forgot. Let me fortify myself with another drink. Maybe I'll remember. Or just pass out. It's a close call right about now. Gotta love the weekend.

Okay, I had another drink. And finished watching MacGruber, which was surprisingly funny in a couple parts, and didn't have Clive Owen. And forgot my train of thought. Oh, yeah, you listed some other movies.

Just added The International and Shoot 'em Up to my Netflix queue. Thanks!

3) Jurassic Park

Favorite movie with dinosaurs that is not part of the Jurassic Park series?

Can we count dinosaur skeletons if you Power Rangers: The Movie.

If not We're Back a Dinosaurs Story.

Favorite non Marvel/DC superhero Movie?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command - one of the funniest and most quotable direct-to-video movies I have ever seen.

Here's one that was rolling around in my head the other day:

Think about famous movie roles wherein another actor was either cast and then replaced during (like Marty McFly in Back to the Future) or before (like Aragorn in LotR) filming, or a role/actor where someone supposedly was "almost cast" but had to back out or didn't end up in the film for whatever reason.

Which of those actual or rumored alternate movie star/role combos do you think you would have liked the best with the "original" person rather than who actually got the part?

Grand Lodge

Good question! Harrison Ford turned down the role of Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October, only to brilliantly play Ryan in future films. I would have preferred Harrison Ford over Alex Baldwin.

Baldwin had some other good roles more fitting. Favorite Alex Baldwin movie?

Scarab Sages

Hmmm. He is not exactly one of my favorite actors, if I cannot chose Hunt for Red October, I will go with Aviator.

Favorite movie about Hollywood and/or the movie business?

A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies

Favorite fictional/dramatized movie on the above themes?

Okay, but just remember "not terrific" and "pretty silly" aren't glowing accolades.

Chick-flick or not, Children of Men rulez!!!

Don't know where to put this, so I'll put it here.

Dog Day Afternoon is one of all-time faves. Didn't know it got Pacino's character beat up in prison. Oops.

Doodlebug Anklebiter wrote:

Is everybody still watching the Scorsese link?

My favorite fictional movie would be a three way tie between The Player and Sunset Boulevard and Singin' in the Rain.

Although, after rewatching the Scorsese thing, now I need to see The Bad and the Beautiful.

Favorite Kirk Douglas movie?

Grand Lodge

Spartacus

Favorite Tony Curtis movie other than Spartacus?

Some Like it Hot just beats out The Sweet Smell of Success because of scenes like this.

Favorite Janet Leigh film?

EDIT: IIRC, Tony later remarked that kissing MM was like kissing Hitler. I'm not sure what he meant by that, but, hee hee!

EDIT 2: Gotta love the internet!

Director Billy Wilder: “After working all day with her I feel like going home and beating my wife.”

Hee hee! doesn't describe how hard I laughed after reading this.

Doodlebug Anklebiter wrote:

The Vikings -- also with Kirk and Tony.

Favorite Ernest Borgnine movie (other than the above)?

Imho, there's only one possible answer for that.

But now we're repeating ourselves. Hmmm.

Favorite Gene Hackman movie? (Have we done him yet?)

At the risk of another repeat, The French Connection -- although I liked him a lot in everything, especially Unforgiven.

I dug Ernest Borgnine opposite Lee Marvin in Emperor of the North (TWB never really did it for me).

Referencing the "Caine-Hackman Phenomenon" from PCU, favorite Michael Caine role?

Wow. I'm drawing a blank.

All I can think of is Deathtrap (one of the compoundmates was watching it the other day) and, although enjoyable, that can't be the best movie he was in. It can't! But it's my answer.

We've never done Martin Sheen, have we?

Favorite Martin Sheen movie?

Doodlebug Anklebiter wrote:

The Dead Zone.

Favorite Christopher Walken movie, other than The Deer Hunter?

P.S. Michael Caine was awesome in Get Carter (for a serious role) and in Without a Clue (for a comedy). But his best role ever was a "Peachy" in The Man Who Would Be King.

EDIT: Trailers/scene clips added to all. The clips for TDZ and WaC are my favorite scenes in those respective movies.

The Prophecy. Walken was bad ass as Gabriel. The sequels were not so great however.

Hugh laurie as CEO of Omnicorp. Gary Oldman as Omnicorp engineer building Robocop. Sound good?

Sure. If it's a comedy.

Favourite comedic role by Hugh Laurie?

JEEVES AND WOOSTER!!

Favorite movie in which Stephen Fry played a part if not acted a role?

Kenneth Branagh's version of The Magic Flute (he wrote the libretto).

(For movie where he acts, I'd go with Gosford Park.)

Favourite movie about the production of a play, opera, or concert?

Spoiler:
Either Bullets over Broadway or Bröderna Mozart.
