Halfling Monk favored class bonus

Rules Questions

Halfling Monks can add a bonus to CMD vs grapples and 1/2 stunning fist attempts per day.

What if the halfling monk has an archetype that removes stunning fist? Do they still add stunning fist attempts thereby getting it?

I don't think so. It wouldn't make any sense to gain the benefit of a feat you don't have just by sacrificing 2 hit points or skill points.

RAW is clear, you need Stunning Fist to gain the attempts.
You could get the feat later and still gain the benefit.

Do you?

I wasn't sure that it was clear.

While in a home game I certainly would swap it out for whatever similar ability the archetype swapped out for stunning fist.. but I'm curious what the RAW would say.

It doesn't seem to require any prior number of stunning attacks to gain more, but perhaps I'm not reading it as clearly as you.

The disconnect is between the fact that you gain attempts in a feat you don't have.
So you have the benefit but can't make use of it.

Rather, I would describe it in these terms
Stunning Fist is a technique
that technique depletes some resource, a limited pool of "energy" which a creature possesses
(this pool varies in size based on class -- monks get more)
a Halfling monk can increase the size of this pool but still needs to know the technique in order to use it
