I don't like Buffy, and I don't care for the Angel episodes that guest-star Buffy. I can't take Sarah Michelle Geller seriously in the role.I don't see why. Compared to any of the female Firely characters, Buffy is considerably more complex, and has a great deal of depth to her. Particularly the trauma of her second resurrection.(where her friends unknowingly snatched her from her earned rest in Heaven) had some great moments of pathos
Whiny overblown melodrama, perhaps, but hardly pathos.
Had the series ended at the Glory arc, it would have been triumphant. Instead it degenerated into years of whining and overblown allegories.And while the secondary characters had complexity, Buffy rarely did. She wanted out, and she wanted her 'true love' (or rather, necrophilia) With few exceptions her character stays constant as a less interesting version of early Cordelia.
