I haven't been to a con in almost two decades, and since I live in the UK too Origins this year is probably a bit of a stretch.
My plan for avoiding the Jubilee is simply to bolt my door and not turn on the tv, but going camping works too. Unless the tent next door are engaging in a royalist barbecue. (That's a barbecue by royalists, not a barbecue of royalists).

More seriously, however, I won't be going -- it's all I can do to get my wife agree that I should be able to get out and play once a week. :)

I wish I had the time/money to go to a con but being a wage slave with a wife 6 days from the due date for our daughters birth puts a strain on a little bit of everything.

Note to players this is not something I usually do but often in pbps people are loathe to order other characters around. If you ever want Abbas to do more than look good or smile alot then you need to ask him - I am afraid he doesn't have the brains to fit a quail's egg. He may say no but not very often.
I have used DnD to avoid Charles marrying Di, and William and Kate. Camping seemed like a good alternative until my dear wife bought bunting! Ye gods. I would feel betrayed but hopefully the secluded rock pools and beaches will be royalist-free where we are going in Cornwall.
I shall be incommunicado from Sat to Mon except by blackberry and that means no tags or code for speech etc. Probably best to treat Abbas like a puppy following along for a few days.

Bunting is one of those Queens English words that is not known in this context. I am sure you do not mean a specific sort of action carried out with a ball bat in baeball! :D

I just chipped in for the Rappan Athuk kickstarter. My poor book shelf. I got Slumbering Tsar and it was too wonderful to not get this one as well.
That goodness that my wife is from Brit ancestry because this Italian would have had no notion of what Bunting was, other than moving the runner into scoring position, of course.
Bunting is fabric draped decorativily in a scalloped fashion across a railing.
And incredibly ugly, even if you're in favour of whatever is being celebrated.
@Abbas - No problem, Elinor has no trouble ordering others around when the going gets tough. Although I didn't realise that 'looking good' was one of his key features. Narnel needs to watch out!
I had thought it was some kind of drapery, but I couldn't be sure enough to post it. My mother had some in our living room for a while in the early 90's, but it didn't last long.
